To enjoy a wee joint every night to unwind?

ganga · 15/10/2010 14:13

Alcohol makes me feel like crap, but having a small joint helps me relax and sleep. I don't smoke cigs, do coke, e's, crack etc and generally lead a healthy lifestyle. Work p/t, have 2 DC.

Think I would have grown out of it, gave it up easily when TTC, pregnant and when breastfeeding x 2, but still enjoy the feeling it brings! AIBU?

Oh yes sticky black Grinor a nice bit of Moroccan

worldgonemad72 · 15/10/2010 22:19

YANBU to have the odd joint, every night is excessive imo, the same goes for alcohol though.
Someone once said to me they would rather be in a roomful of stoners than a roomful of drunks and i do agree with that.

newwave · 15/10/2010 22:22

furry, get real the op is having some blow not on the crack or chasing the dragon. As for the kids, did she say she was smoking it front of them. Have you ever had an alcaholic drink, no difference in terms of harm caused.

Mind you todays stuff can be a lot stronger than I am used to.

chimchARRRRGGGGHHHHHHH · 16/10/2010 07:13

problem is that there is competition between growers who can "breed" the strongest bud....so what they do is to up the levels of thc which is the bit that gets you stoned, and lower the levels of the anti psychotic chemicals, so you don't get such a balanced buzz....iykwim.

back in the olden days, skunk was a real treat....now its all you are really able to get hold of...

CardyMow · 16/10/2010 09:19

Hmm part of me says YANBU, considering I used to be a heavy pot smoker.

BUT a huge part of me says YABU mostly because I don't feel that smoking pot evey night when you have dc's is a good example to set. I cut down a lot when my DD was born, and gave up completely 7/8 yrs ago. Now my DD is almost 13yo, I'm glad she doesn't remember me smoking pot, it's a much better example to set her.

I think that if you need/ want something, be it weed or booze or some other drug of choice, every night, then you do have a problem with it. And if you have a problem with one of these things, it's not good for your dc for you to do nothing about it.

So, on reflection, YABU.

Heracles · 16/10/2010 13:09

Each to their own.

Does it make you happy? Are you harming no one? Go for your life...

CactusVera · 16/10/2010 13:20

My Mum thought it was okay to have 'adult habits' like smoking weed regularly.

Until my brother, then 15, found her stash and tried it out. He's 25 now and can't kick the habit he picked up at such a young age. He is plagued by his dependency on it and the debt his habit has caused, not to mention the emotional/psychological side effects.

I'd say if you have to do it every night then you're putting yourself and your DCs at risk of developing very bad habits.

discobeaver · 16/10/2010 13:32

I also agree with nerdyface.

Also, slightlyundead, have you considered your DH might find you very very dull company when you insist on watching The Apprentice which he clearly doesn't give a crap about?

nannynobnobs · 16/10/2010 13:36

I bake weed brownies every so often, I enjoy them, there's no hangover and I don't turn into a repetitive bumbling ass like I do when drinking.
I don't have any in the house atm, haven't had for weeks, don't miss it/crave it at all. I might get some in soon, but it's as much a choice as fancying a four pack of beers.

YABU. It's illegal and do you want your children to get into that habit. Because as they get older they#ll probably realose what you are doing and will want to try it out.

SpringHeeledJack · 16/10/2010 14:27

slightlyundead you are describing mine and dp's wednesday nights with pinpoint accuracy

however dp doesn't smoke

Grin
izzywizzywoowooo · 16/10/2010 14:29

YABU to smoke it every night I think, I would also say the same to someone who had a drink every night. Everything in Moderation.

However I would not smoke it (if I did) when I had DD in the house.

mixedraceparents · 16/10/2010 14:33

DD7???

porcamiseria · 16/10/2010 14:49

why have you asked, why do you give a shit what people think. if you want to puff, puff!

PenelopeTitsDropped · 16/10/2010 14:57

I smoked weed every day from the age of 17 to 39.

In between; I took speed, magic mushrooms, acid.

I don't regret a single moment.

skunkqueen · 07/01/2011 16:31

To all those who go by the hoity toity opinion that, 'Cannabis is illegal and therefore it is wrong so just dont do it.'
It saddens me to think that people will whole heatedly believe everything our government tells them.
Firstly; in nazi controlled germany it was at one point illegal to help, associate or even speak to any jewish person. Right or wrong?
Women in this country have fought for many years to achieve a form of equality, when back in the proverbial day women were barely allowed to leave the kitchen sink. It doesn't take a genius to work out that this was also wrong(morally)
Both of the above were enforced at the time by government in this country and in that of Germany.
To this day women are abused and controlled around the world by governments in countrys like iran/saudi etc, should their people just get on with it because it is 'illegal'. Wake up plse

celticlassie · 07/01/2011 17:12
Confused
charliesmommy · 07/01/2011 17:15

It also doesnt take a genius to see the damage that smoking skunk does either.

Your name says it all love.

Nothing hoity toity about having some intelligence.

spikeycow · 07/01/2011 17:36

If you're fine on it there's nothing wrong with it. Some people can hardly function on it, some people are just normal on it. It's no biggie, loads of people do it and hold down jobs, raise families. Old school bush weed is better than punk though, punk is more potent to the point where bush weed doesn't do anything for people who smoke punk.

spikeycow · 07/01/2011 17:38

And I agree the law thing is a bit meh. It's not a crime to smoke in your own home anyway. You can even grow small amounts and po don't care.
And no I don't smoke myself, it never relaxed me. I just know people who do

AllHailDaddyPig · 07/01/2011 17:58

I just think it makes you out to be incredibly irresponsible actually.

You have children to think of, yet you're smoking an illegal drug...which alters your perception of things and your reactions. And before anybody says 'so does alcohol' well yes, and I don't condone being drunk when a child is in your care.

There are reasons why it's illegal, and why would you want to take a risk when you've got vunerable little children asleep upstairs?

To me, people who still smoke weed as adults with families and jobs come across as if they are trying to desperately cling on to their teenage years.

Just grow up, it's vile and trampy.

TrappedinSuburbia · 07/01/2011 18:00

I don't, but im one of the few people I know who don't (including high achievers/police/solicitors)
I think pot is less harmful than alcohol tbh, everything pot does, alcohol can do and then some.
YANBU, if thats your thing, go for it.

NewYearNewPants · 07/01/2011 18:02

I haven't smoked weed for years and years, but as a result of this thread, I could murder a joint! Grin

On serious note, I see major hypocrisy in all the 'Ooh, goody! It's wine o 'clock!' 'Is it too early to start on the wine? 'Cheer up love and pour yourself a nice big glass of wine' threads on MN, and then the 'shock!horror!' attitude of some towards a bit of weed.

No self-respecting copper is ever going to arrest an otherwise law-abiding mum for smoking a couple of spliffs in her own home when her kids are in bed, either, so the 'it's illegal, you irresponsible slacker!' argument is a bit lame.

AllHailDaddyPig · 07/01/2011 18:12

Maybe the police wouldn't make too much fuss about weed smoking mothers, when they have so much else on their plate. Social Services on the other hand, might take a different view...
