2 times this week they've knocked on the door and 2 times I've not answered it.

About 2 months ago,I got caught out and answered the door in the daytime,I was quite firm in telling the lady I am NOT INTERESTED,so why come back?

I'm sick of them peddling their religion at my doorstep.

Do they really think they will convert people on the doorstep?

I am told that you should say that you are a Quaker; then they leave you well alone.
I haven't tried it though.

2shoeprintsintheblood · 14/10/2010 11:17

ds says I have to tell them I worship satan...
I am going to try it next time

Thingumy · 14/10/2010 11:17

Do they ever leave you alone?

Ask "who are you exactly?"

When they say jehovahs witnesses re-enact the scene from Life of Brian and stone them to death Grin

UnseenAcademicalMum · 14/10/2010 11:18

I knew someone who was black-listed by the Jehovah's witnesses. She was a devout Christian who knew her bible inside out and back to front. She would invite the Jehovah's witnesses in for a cup of tea and a chat and on several occasions, they left converted.

Malkuth · 14/10/2010 11:19

Ask them to put you on their no contact list that they keep. They are absolutely fine about doing this and won't knock again. You need to specifically ask that though cos if you say you are just not interested they will come back.

Or do what we did at an old shared house I lived in and paint a huge pentagram and a Baphomet head on the door. Had absolutely no religious callers after that!

twirlymum · 14/10/2010 11:22

Had a major argument with some a few weeks ago. Usually I'm very polite, but there was an older man with them (usually it's little old ladies).
I asked him his opinion on blood donors (I am one), and he told me that I would be going to hell!
I told him that that was a chance I was prepared to take if it meant saving someone's life. He got really arsey, and tried telling me about synthetic alternatives to blood etc, but he had really got my back up, so I'm afraid I was quite rude and shut the door on him.

TheSugarPlumFairy · 14/10/2010 11:28

thing is though, they get spiritual brownie points every time they knock on your door.

According to their beliefs there are only something like 130,000 places in heaven and only the most devout will be taken up so they gotta get keep their points tally high.

A friend of mine use to work night shift and they came to his door about 11am, middle of the night for him. He stumbled to the door wearing his wife's fluffy pink dressing gown which didn't quite close (he was not a fan of pyjamas iykwim). When he realised it was the JW's he ripped into them and basically chased them down his driveway. Whenever they came to his street again they would step off the footpath and walk past the house really quickly.

TorcherQueenie · 14/10/2010 11:31

We've been blacklisted. We're Pagan and I take a great intrest in other religions so last time they were here I tried to convert them to Satanism with the help of "The Satanic Witch". Which by the way is an excellent book nothing really to do with Satanism just teaching a woman how to use her "charms" to get men to do as she wants. Grin

exexpat · 14/10/2010 11:34

I just tell them I'm an atheist and they go away. Doesn't seem to stop them coming back though - different ones, but presumably from the same church which is just around the corner.

What really annoys me is when they bring children with them and get them to do the doorstep spiel while the grown-ups lurk at the end of the path - it makes me feel like I have to be nice to them, when really what I want to do is be rude to the adults for forcing the children to do it.

FreakoidOrganisoid · 14/10/2010 11:34

JW here are fine, they just ask if they can give you a booklet and go.

The Mormons however are very persistent. At one stage they were coming twice a week and kept asking to come in to talk and show me a dvd. Telling them I was busy didn't work, they offered to help me with housework or to go to the shop for me.

BuntyPenfold · 14/10/2010 11:36

Freak send those Mormons here!

Thingumy · 14/10/2010 11:37

I wouldn't mind a few Mormons here too Grin

My kitchen is a bloody tip, they can start on that.

Where I live they have the whole family that knocks on your door - with 2 little kiddies, which is just wrong. My mum is great for things likes that as she is christian and preaches right on back at them :)

FreakoidOrganisoid · 14/10/2010 11:43

Lol yeah I did think maybe I should have taken them up on that!

MamzelleDupont · 14/10/2010 11:44

I had them at my door at 9am on New Years day.

They were very polite though, i think i just looked to confused for them to even bother trying.

maduggar · 14/10/2010 11:51

My dear Granny is a JW and I hate the thought of people being rude & aggressive towards her, but she firmly believes she has to canvass people as to get into Paradise with my Grandad :(

lolaclare · 14/10/2010 11:52

twirlymum, I don't think they would have told you that you're going to hell as JWs don't believe in hell. They would probably say that blood donors will be destroyed at Armageddon, which of course is much nicer Wink.

sockapoodle · 14/10/2010 11:57

There's no need to be rude, just ask to be put on their no call list. They are often lovely people. This site is normally so tolerant of all faiths and beliefs, why are the Witnesses excluded? Sad
