to wonder what is wrong with fish fingers?

the only place I have see anyone look down their noses at giving a child a fish finger is here. Yes fresh fish may be the ideal but is there something else wrong with that I don't know about?

hope not - DS loves them, preferably with a potato waffle! I did make my own a couple of times but really life is too short!

Euphemyknifeinyourback · 13/10/2010 15:13

There's nothing wrong with fish fingers, if you buy good quality ones like Bird's Eye or Sainsburys. The fish in them is decent, and they're low fat and nutritious.
(Me hoping it's fish fingers for tea tonight.)

mumblechum · 13/10/2010 15:14

YANBU. Fish finger and salad cream sandwiches on white bread is the food of the Gods.

RaisedFromPerdition · 13/10/2010 15:14

Where are all of these fish finger threads. Let me at 'em.

My Mum bbqs fishfingers. She is mad though.

ForMashGetSmash · 13/10/2010 15:14

Oooh...I LOVE them! And you've given me an idea for tonights dinner! I have 4 at a time...Grin

scruffymuff · 13/10/2010 15:15

A staple in our house- the waitrose chunky haddock ones are the best!

Nowt wrong with fish fingers. Especially on a sandwich with tomato sauce Grin

DomesticG0ddess · 13/10/2010 15:17

I don't see anything wrong with fishfingers and we like to eat a lot of fresh fish from local fishmongers too. As long as you buy a decent brand!

BunnyLeBOOwski · 13/10/2010 15:18

Nowt wrong with fish fingers. DD adores them.

And so do DP and I. Lazy Sat lunch is often a fish finger and runny fried egg butty (on white warburtons and with ketchup on one side mayo on the other). Hella yum Grin.

ANorfolkBroad · 13/10/2010 15:19

Well one of Nigel Slater's real fast food books highly recommends a fish finger sandwich, and says to ignore those who call fish fingers common. Recommendation enough I reckon Grin

Rockbird · 13/10/2010 15:20

Absolutely nothing. Nice piece of cod fillet or whatever Captain Birdeye is putting in them these days, children invariably love them, job done :)

onlyjoking9329 · 13/10/2010 15:22

My DS refuses to eat fish fingers and points out that fish don't have fingers!

I ate two fishfingers every school day for 11 years!! I love them.

The only reason I can see for negativity is they look a bit like turkey twizzlers, chicken nuggets etc. That's scraping the bottom of the barrel of reasons though!!

ShirleyGarrote · 13/10/2010 15:29

Christ this thread is depressing.

I've said it once; I'll say it again.

Fishfinger sandwiches which have ketchup in them are an affront to God and all his angels.

Fishfinger sandwiches should only be made with:

  1. Salad Cream
  2. Tartare sauce
  3. Mayo

If this kind of shit is allowed to stand, then Christ knows where we will be on October 20th.

GrimmaTheNome · 13/10/2010 15:29

Nothing. Just think of them as ergonomically close-packable goujons.

The only thing wrong with them is that DD has refused to eat any fish since she was about 4. I would love to be able to give her fishfingers for tea again!

funtimewincies · 13/10/2010 15:30

Oooh, a fish finger sarnie. Ds1 is at Grandma's, ds2 is asleep, dh will be late home from work. No-one would ever know Blush.

TooImmature2BMum · 13/10/2010 15:31

I get totally creeped out by that advert for salmon fishfingers where the salmon slut drops her breadcrumbs...that's just wrong!

IMoveTheStars · 13/10/2010 15:33

Onlyjoking then your DS clearly hasn't seen this book Grin

IMoveTheStars · 13/10/2010 15:34

I was wondering this, as DS eats SO many of them. I got some salmon and covered in bread crumbs and stuck them in the freezer. I've been on MN too long...

Tee2072 · 13/10/2010 15:37

jareth you beat me to it! That is my son's favourite book right now.Grin

onlyjoking9329 · 13/10/2010 21:07

Love the book, DS has autism and is very literal, having said that he was happy to eat fish fingers as long as they were called chicken fingers Hmm

shimmerysilverghosty · 13/10/2010 21:10

My dc had Jacket potato, Brocolli and Salmon Fish Fingers for dinner tonight and I am chuffed to bits with that. We consider that a "healthy" meal here.

I have never got fish finger snobbery either.

JoanHolloway · 13/10/2010 21:11

Nothing. You can't worry yourself about groupthink on MN. (but I can't recall any fish finger bashing, must have missed that)
