to wonder what is wrong with fish fingers?

the only place I have see anyone look down their noses at giving a child a fish finger is here. Yes fresh fish may be the ideal but is there something else wrong with that I don't know about?

Now that I have won...

The DC do have them sometimes. Tescos finest, if you please!

PLenty of fishfingers eaten in our house. Nothing actually wrong with the Sainsburys Basics ones, either.
There is also nothing wrong with oven chips or potato happyfaces, which consist of potatoes and a bit of sunflower oil.
Or Paw Ridge, which I used to be sniffy about until I read the label. (100% oats. Just a bit more finely ground than ordinary porridge oats).

A1980 · 14/10/2010 00:09

They were the stuff of nightmares for me as a child. It isn't possible to remove every bone from them so I once got a mouth full of bones and felt physically sick. I was about 8 and spat it out and refused to eat them again.

My mum was old school though. She bought stuff knowing full well I didn't like it and she couldn't give a fig. She thought I was just being difficult and made me eat them.

As long as your child likes them though, nothing wrong with them nutritionally.

roffle.

fish is fine... millions of japanese people survive til they're in triple figures despite smoking millions of fags (yes, another scientific study Grin)

Solid ReadyBrek's actually better than PawRidge - added Iron and vitamins etc.

:)

invisibleink · 14/10/2010 00:13

Ahem, Jareth could you link to that study? I'd be interested to read the research.

PA :)

IMoveTheStars · 14/10/2010 00:20

I'll find it in the morning.. There's a reason that whole grains (rice) and omega 3 & 6 (fish) are recognised for healthy hearts. The Japanese have one of the longest life expectancies in the world.

and don't 'ahem' me, [slaps] Wink

IMoveTheStars · 14/10/2010 00:21

PA???

invisibleink · 14/10/2010 00:27

(PA referred to my former Passive Aggressive :), sorry!)

We;l, I will be looking forward to seeing that report on my desk(top) first thing in the morning.

Right, next on the agenda is the aforementioned ReadyBrek. We will then move on to chicken nuggets. Who wants to start?

invisibleink · 14/10/2010 00:28

sigh. I meant WELL. Damn boobs feeding!

IMoveTheStars · 14/10/2010 00:36

Oh, I thought PA referred to Personal Assistant Confused

Right, if you want to start that game I have plenty to throw at you....

...I just can't throw at the moment because I'm a leetle bit tipsy.

Are you being this amusing/sarcastic AND BFing? I feel I shall have to ostracise you for overachieving Wink

invisibleink · 14/10/2010 00:46

Well it isnt at all appropriate to continue with you in this state. Honestly, you just cant get the staff these days!!

Argument adjourned until tomorrow. I expected more from you, Goblin. You have let the team down. I expect a much improved performance tomorrow. Lots of blue sky thinking.

(DD finished feeding now so off to bed!)

IMoveTheStars · 14/10/2010 01:18

I'm NOT a fucking GOBLIN. I'm their fucking king!

ffs.

...and nobody cares that you're BFing.

IMoveTheStars · 14/10/2010 01:19

sorry Blush

TheLadyEvilStar · 14/10/2010 01:32

oopps

invisibleink · 14/10/2010 07:47

ooooooook. Sorry Jareth. I was just having a laugh.

MumInBeds · 14/10/2010 07:55

Oh, we don't eat them often enough in our house.

When dh and I were first dating and saving up for our first house we used to have them on rice with a pit of sweet-and-sour sauce from the take-away as a treat - yum.

throckenholt · 14/10/2010 08:09

another vote for fish fingers. I love them in pitta bread with butter, spring onion and heinz tomato ketchup - yum yum.

DS oddly loves fish finger, and fish shop battered fish - but hates fish in breadcrumbs - we are all baffled as to what he thinks is different from cod in breadcrumbs and fish fingers (apart from the shape). Maybe he is just really picky about the type of breadcrumb.

Hullygully · 14/10/2010 08:28

Love them.

BTW salmon isn't as bad mercury-wise as tuna. The bigger the fish, the greater the mercury content (because it's eaten all the little ones).

Eat swordfish and you glow in the dark.

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 14/10/2010 08:35

DS doesn't like them :(

but the other day he ate a huge portion of chicken, potatoes, brocolli and carrots. smug - me? oh yes, this is the child who used to survive on rice cakes and fruit (and junk food) and we cheered when he ate pizza and chips!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 14/10/2010 08:37

They are disgusting because they are made of fish
Having said that, DD and DH will be having them for tea tonight with some mash and peas.

Coffeebeans · 14/10/2010 09:15

As long as it's not deep dried cheap crap. Absolutely fine! Anyone had them in a sarnie with mushy peas?

Coffeebeans · 14/10/2010 09:16

'fried' damm predictive text!

MakingRisotto · 14/10/2010 09:43

Marks and Spencers fishfingers are yum, especially in a sandwich made with Warburtons.

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 14/10/2010 10:05

Another vote for fish fingers in our house ds1 is such a fussy eater there are so few things he will eat and fish fingers is one of them so always buy good quality ones. Personally i hate all fish but dd loves all fish (mind you easier to tell you what she doesn't love) so but it and cook it for her.

duchesse · 14/10/2010 10:20

Fish fingers are lush! Especially in a sandwich with ketchup.

I usually don't eat ketchup (don't like it) or anything processed, but there's just something about that combination...

Kneejerk naysayers should try the old fish finger sandwich before making their decision.
