Oh I know I am, and it's not personal any Aussies out there, but they're just so bloody GOOD at everything. What irks me most is they are also so SPORTING and complimentary of their opposition. If they were dead smug then I'd be happier, but they aren't. WHY do they have to be members of the Commonwealth? WHY??

And they are all called Meghan for some reason, even the men.

you are so wrong! Dp is Australian, and when ever they loose anything he is terrible and when they win he is worse!.

In the last olympics the whole of australia sulked because they see GB as their big rivals (a little like england germany in the football)and we won more medals than them!

PrinceRogersNelson · 11/10/2010 15:21

I am another with an Aussie DH and believe me they are not good losers. Not at all.

I remember when we won the Rugby World Cup. Oh dear, Aussie friends were not happy. And if they beat us I don't hear the end of it.

But they have quite an amazing fighting spirit. Australians really believe they are the best and that they will win. which is why they nearly always do.

nancy75 · 11/10/2010 15:23

PrinceRogersNelson - how did you get on when we won the ashes? dp had spent months telling me and anyone that would listen that they would never be beaten - his face when we won was a picture!

PrinceRogersNelson · 11/10/2010 15:28

I have been told that until we beat them in Australia then it doesn't really count. Shock

CUNextTuesday · 11/10/2010 15:29

Good actors then maybeGrin

Oh yes Nancy - as an Aussie myself (although very un-sporty)- I must agree. Aussies are bad losers! When we lose, we lose it all and then have a giant strop with the world until we win something else - even the world champion fly fishing competition Grin

Morloth · 11/10/2010 15:38

"but they're just so bloody GOOD at everything."

It's true, we are. The sooner everyone else just accepts this, the sooner we can all move on.

drfayray · 12/10/2010 08:47

I agree Morloth. We are the best, just get used to it Grin!

However, I believe we are good losers (although it does not happen often so bear with us whilst we work out how to deal with this concept of losing... Wink).

Thing is sports is EVERYTHING here. I feel sad that accomplishments in science, for example, (and Aus leads the way in some areas of medical research)are not given the same oomph as sports achievements.

HowsTheSerenity · 12/10/2010 09:00

Oh yes I agree we are just awesome
(dare I throw in an Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi for good measure)!

But like drfay said, sport is the be all and end all in Australia. We have the weather, the lifestyle and opportunity to excel at sport. Plus we have a wide range of people from different cultures who excel at certain sports.

legspinner · 12/10/2010 10:27

YANBU. I live in New Zealand. Enough said. Grin

3thumbedwitch · 12/10/2010 10:34

YANBU but you are wrong, as has already been said. They can be shocking losers and whinge like anything in private!

DH (Aussie) also whinges at the number of non-native Aussies who compete as Aussies - Russian tennis players for e.g. - it really offends him. Don't know why - so long as they win for Australia, what does it matter? And since there are a lot of Aussies who are now spending entirely too much time sitting on their bums (same as the UK etc.) he should be grateful that other nationalities are choosing to win medals for Australia, IMO.

BongoWinslow · 12/10/2010 10:36

Agree with everyone - we are just so good at everything, but horrible losers.

I was so smug about cricket until we lost the Ashes. But it's what I love about being Australian - we're just so confident, didn't take me long to be blithely taking the piss out of Poms for being so pleased they won the Ashes once in the last God knows how long, because I'm so certain we'll get them back Grin. All in good fun!

I also think that it's kind of good that we're such crappy losers sometimes (dryayray has it right - we're not sure how it's done!), otherwise we'd be completely unbearable - I think everyone should get a chance to take the piss out of us when we lose too!

FindingMyMojo · 12/10/2010 11:45

its is perfectly reasonable instinctive behaviour - why fight mother nature? Grin

epicfail · 12/10/2010 13:49

no YANBU.

What's more - Australia has a tiny population compared to say, Canada, or Great Britain. It is just wrong, somehow, that we do so well, innit?

Shout away OP.

invisibleink · 12/10/2010 14:24

Aussies rock at sorts. But we are shit at acting. So there is some balance!! Grin

Morloth · 12/10/2010 14:31

It is hard to be a good loser when you don't get much practice.

HowsTheSerenity · 12/10/2010 14:32

Morloth - snort Grin

PrinceRogersNelson · 12/10/2010 14:35

My DH spent this morning adding up all the medals that England, Wales and Scotland got this morning so he could point out that Australia were beating us.

When I informed him he would need t add in N. Ireland and Isle of Man - we were ahead. He wasn't very happy at that - so then he started on comparing populations, therefore pointing at that really Australia were much better as the population is so much smaller.

Even when they do lose they twist everything so that somehow they still come out on top!

Morloth · 12/10/2010 14:43

Ah the Serenity!

PrinceRogersNelson · 12/10/2010 14:47

Tell him he's dreaming!

HowsTheSerenity · 12/10/2010 15:12

All those medals are going straight to the pool room!

CUNextTuesday · 12/10/2010 15:34

Ha! In your faces on the synchronised diving!!! LOSERS!!! Grin
