Oh I know I am, and it's not personal any Aussies out there, but they're just so bloody GOOD at everything. What irks me most is they are also so SPORTING and complimentary of their opposition. If they were dead smug then I'd be happier, but they aren't. WHY do they have to be members of the Commonwealth? WHY??

No one wants Russell Crowe!

Morloth · 15/10/2010 09:44

Who would?

CUNextTuesday · 15/10/2010 10:56

oooh I didn't realise this would prompt a small antipodean scuffle Grin

Well anyway, well done Australia, you are true gods of sport (except cricket and, I'm willing to bet, Curling). Never let it be said that poms can't give credit where it's due, you medal-hogging, sore-losing sportamatons Grin

Yes, I hate going to live sporting events, ecause when I watch them on TV I can change the channel if the Aussies aren't winning.

Grin

Then I flick back every now and again and look at the score between squinted eyes and quickly change the channel again if we are still not winning Grin

It helps that we have a great outdoor lifestyle and our children start their sporting at about 3 or 4 years old. Bt the time they start school they are doing three or 4 sporting events.

When I was a little one my typical Saturday was Tennis lesson at 8.30 to 9.30, Piano lesson 11.oo to 12. Then netball at 2.3o and probably interdistrict tennis comp on Sunday,

During the week it was swimming training and club racing on Thursday night.

Inbetween it was piano recitals etc.

In summer it was Little Athletics Blush

Made some wonderful friends during this time.

Should be sporting life

3thumbedwitch · 15/10/2010 11:25

I have to say, I thought it was a bit immature of one of the reporters tonight to say that, despite having a lower medal tally than in the last 5 CGs, the Aussies have still achieved their main aim of beating the English.
Just sounds so childish!

AngelsOnHigh · 15/10/2010 11:25

Forgot to throw in the school gymnastics team

AngelsOnHigh · 15/10/2010 11:28

Sydney's Northern beaches are portrayed beautifully in "Home and Away"

The acting is a bit dodgy at times, but hey' no worse than "Eastenders" in their dingy little pub and scraggy actors.

NeverendingStoryteller · 15/10/2010 11:39

I am Australian. We are bad losers. We are even worse winners. Sorry on behalf of our incredibly arrogant nation Grin I just figured out another reason for not going 'home'. Cheers Wink

Morloth · 15/10/2010 11:41

Beating the English pretty much is the main goal though. Wink

3thumbedwitch · 15/10/2010 11:45

Oh yes, we know that Morloth - it just seems so childish that the bloody reporters have to remind everyone - I wonder how many English expats there are here now?

AngelsOnHigh · 15/10/2010 11:48

Sure is Morloth. That' what I keep telling My English DH. Smile

However, when Australia isn't involved, my second choice is England (or UK to be precise)

After all my ancestors ae Scottish and Irish, so when you think about it, I win when Australia or GB win.

Am I the only one who thinks Jonny Wilkinson is so georgeous.

I can still see him kicking that goal to beat Australia in the world cup.

Morloth · 15/10/2010 11:51

They can take it. I love being an Aussie in London, love a good bicker fest with whinging Poms.

Anyway, we like the Commonwealth Games more than the Olympics because there are no Americans around to kick our arses for us.

AngelsOnHigh · 15/10/2010 12:06

Too true, or Chinese and Russians

HowsTheSerenity · 15/10/2010 18:31

Although if I have to hear Advance Australia Fair one more time I may scream. I mean I love my country but gee we have a crap anthem. Has anyone actually ever used the word girt in a sentence?
