Oh I know I am, and it's not personal any Aussies out there, but they're just so bloody GOOD at everything. What irks me most is they are also so SPORTING and complimentary of their opposition. If they were dead smug then I'd be happier, but they aren't. WHY do they have to be members of the Commonwealth? WHY??

'Chicken.'

'and it's got something sprinkled on it.'

'Seasoning'

'Seasoning! Looks like everybody's kicked a goal'

DH told me this evening that the Aussies won the hockey. So what?

I haven't yet mentioned the cricket and the fact that Australia have just slipped to 5th in the Test ranking having lost the 3rd in a row, worst performance for 22y. I'm not sure I can be bothered.

legspinner · 14/10/2010 10:15

oh the hockey was heartbreaking if you are a Kiwi.....
Anyone watching the netball btw? Gripping stuff!

Morloth · 14/10/2010 10:16

Who remembers:

'Are you scared Mick?'

CUNextTuesday · 14/10/2010 13:38

who won netball? Please say NZ!!

yep! here

thighsmadeofcheddar · 14/10/2010 14:06

(just like to remind invisible ink about Cate Blanchett. Woman can act)

Yes Morloth, we watched that film every xmas for about 100 years.....

complexnumber · 14/10/2010 14:11

So who would win in a beer drinking contest between Oz and UK?

I reckon there are a few at my local boozer who could take on the entire Oz continent, and still have change for a few days at the Betty Ford Clinic

DwainRooney · 14/10/2010 18:57

You should go to the ashes the next time they are playing over here. There is nothing better than getting tipsy and shouting abuse at Aussie cricketers

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 14/10/2010 19:09

I'd like to know why, if Aussie is so good at everything, why do you keep 'stealing' all the best New Zealanders and claiming us as your own?

HowsTheSerenity · 14/10/2010 21:30

Beer drinking? we had an ex PM who held the world record for speed drinking a yard glass of beer. Id like to see Dave try that! Grin

Morloth · 14/10/2010 21:32

Because everyone knows NZ isn't really a country in it's own right, just a leeeetle island off the coast of Australia.

HowsTheSerenity · 14/10/2010 21:34

Hahahahahahaha.

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 14/10/2010 22:06

Spoken like a true insecure Austrayan there Morloth Grin

Can I also just point out that no one drinks more than the Irish! (The Aussies are so good, because of all their Irish ancestry)

legspinner · 15/10/2010 02:29

Got here too late to crow about the netball....what an amazing game. I was wondering if Norma Plummer ever changes her expression.
And as for claiming Kiwis as Aussies, you can keep Russell Crowe as far as I'm concerned! (But not Crowded House please).

tortoiseonthepumpkinshell · 15/10/2010 05:37

Gosh, I thought this was going to be a reference to the AFL rape case going on. This thread is far more cheery.

3thumbedwitch · 15/10/2010 05:50

no no tortoise - those would be rational obscenities, not irrational ones.
[kind of wants to put a wry grin emoticon but realises it would be inappropriate in the context of your link]

tortoiseonthepumpkinshell · 15/10/2010 05:54

Well, depends on the obscenity. One could shout "fuck the fuck off, you small floral teapot", for example.

3thumbedwitch · 15/10/2010 06:16

Aha - you are discoursing on the nature of the obscenity, while I was referring more to the reason for it - pedantry at its best! Grin

tortoiseonthepumpkinshell · 15/10/2010 06:18

A girl has to keep her end up somehow, faced with all these strapping Aussies around. Pedantry is as good a weapon tool as any, since let's face it, I'm not beating any of them in the swimming pool any time soon.

3thumbedwitch · 15/10/2010 06:23

Grin - me either!

echt · 15/10/2010 06:24

Speaking of attitudes to NZ; youtube shebangabang and see the Commonwealth Bank ads about that lovely place.:o

Oh, and Aussie attitude to losing is shite. In the staffroom at my school, there is utter silence when Oz looses at anything. Only once, ever, did an Aussie say anything complimentary to me when England won at cricket.

Joking aside, it's the only thing about Australians I've found disappointing, and is, to me the real evidence of the cultural cringe.

Oh, the other disappointing thing is shit weather we're having right now.

Morloth · 15/10/2010 08:00

Oh God yes please take back Russell Crowe. The Finn Bros however are all mine. We went and saw Crowded House at the Apollo in June, age has not wearied them.

echt it is hard for Aussies to be nice about the English we are still pissed off about Gallipoli.

differentnameforthis · 15/10/2010 09:00

They are not goo at everything...they are VERY bad at losing!

differentnameforthis · 15/10/2010 09:00

good
