I don't understand it ........ Every one I have heard moans on about being worse off under the Coalition ... why do they all think the money to bail us out of Browns' catastrophic fuck up should come from somebody else? don't they get it? we all have to pay now.

And why oh why would anybody in their right mind want Labour in again after what they have done to our country??

I am at a loss

I was waiting for someone to bring up Thatcher.

I don't think that gordon brown is to blame for the global economy dipping, but how on EARTH anyone can not understand that we would be better placed to ride out the depression if he had not got us so much in debt is beyond me.

I am still waiting for someone to answer that actual point.

HumphreyCobbler · 09/10/2010 18:11

I notice that well informed and intelligent Labour supporters tend to show respect to views other than their own, and are able to indulge in a decent debate though swc. I have many friends like this. We get on well and even though our views differ, they respect me as a moral and decent individual.

Faaamily · 09/10/2010 18:11

You are seriously hostile, smallwhitecat. Why?

I was expressing my opinions, in response to the OP asking LABOUR supporters a question.

I didn't say a thing about Tory voters or their reasons for voting Tory.

I hope you sort out your issues.

Blimey.

I do agree.

It does seem that the less informed people are, the nastier the invective spewed forth.

I was a very left wing in my younger days too.

I am always pleased when you are on a thread like this SWC, you express yourself so well Smile

Faaamily · 09/10/2010 18:20

There you go again. Where is the 'knee-jerk bigotry'? What are you on about? I vote Labour based on a lifetime as a socialist, who believes that some form of socialism offers a better of organising and leading our country Not because I hate Tories, or Tory voters, or based on any prejudice or bigotry.

And do you hear yourself? 'People on the left are condescending'. What, all of them?

Get a fucking grip.

I posted my opinion on a thread asking for opinions from LABOUR supporters. I didn't expect to enter into some sort of juvenile debating society barney.

I am putting this thread on IGNORE. Goodbye.

Only if I can then jump to the conclusion that all Tory voters are extremely rude?

HumphreyCobbler · 09/10/2010 18:28

Honestly though, I have been called a C$%T on here for voting Tory. Selfish, rich and greedy. I wish the middle one were true.

Someone actually said to me the other day - "You are a TORY. But you seem so nice!"

mamatomany · 09/10/2010 18:29

I can grasp that it isn't a loan but equally if you are selling stock that nobody in their right mind would buy and the government does for the good of the country then it is most certainly a bail out.

HumphreyCobbler · 09/10/2010 18:29

People on the left believe they are morally superior. It makes them condescending.

I think the problem is that no matter how you look at it, socialism seems more generous to others. By it's very nature. If you vote Tory the natural assumption is that you believe the market should decide and devil take the hindmost! Of course it's not as simple as that.

OrmRenewed · 09/10/2010 18:33

I don't think I'll bother thanks if being called 'a bit bloody thick' isn't seen as rude.

OrmRenewed · 09/10/2010 18:33

Nobody was patronising the OP were they?

Hedgeblunder has it though.

I'm impressed by the Conservatives. Impressed that they have managed to convince a lot of people that this mess was solely caused by the Labour party.

It's like a complete retcon of what actually happened.

OrmRenewed · 09/10/2010 18:36

I quite agree that on the ground socialism doesn't work. But that doesn't stop it being the better ideology. Let's face it capitalism hasn't got an umblemished track record when it comes to creating the perfect society.

well Orm, I think that this is superficially true, that socialism seems more generous.

It is just that I have really come to the conclusion that throwing money at problems doesn't make them go away and that the state is rather poor at spending money effectively.

The effects of socialism don't end up matching up to their ideals. So I have changed my mind.

None of this makes me a c**nt, or selfish, or greedy.

It is sad that the majority of people on here don't seem to be able to understand that.

i once knew someone who worked on a right wing think tank for ending global poverty. A few people I knew said that seemed like a contradiction in terms - forgetting that we mostly live in a capitalist society, that business creates jobs and wealth and that a healthy economy benefits everyone.

HumphreyCobbler · 09/10/2010 18:43

Pfft - who do you blame for the mess our economy is in then? Don't say it was just a global recession, or blame the banks. That is just silly. Or don't you think that 130 million spent a day servicing the debt Labour ran up is worth taking into account?

I feel that Gordon Brown is the one who has done a spectacular job of convincing a lot of people that he has done a good job and is a good man.

It must be because he told us he was so often.

nellieistired · 09/10/2010 18:53

our economy is in a mess along with many others and try as I might I cant see how Gordon Brown was responsible for other countries economic crisis.

Unless you can enlighten me on that point? apart from suggesting anyone who thiks that is silly.

However the bankers fucked up globally - so yes I will continue to blame them and the lapse rules of lending in the american sub prime market.

furthermore I do understand that money has to be saved but I suspect strongly that a lot of change and cuts are ideologically driven.

As for the condem management of the economy all I can say is that if it was a good bought i a shop we would be suing them for misselling.
