I've ever had the misfortune to read!
I've stuck with it, because everyone loves them, but crikey. I've eaten jam sandwiches with more plot!
Don't get me wrong, I know it's more for teenagers, but dear God, I'm halfway through the third book, and bugger all has happened!

She should have rethought how she wrote that TE, the 'delicious smelling breath' just sounds wrong.

Spookyoldclothcatpuss · 06/10/2010 20:56

I've been mulling the spoiler over in my head all afternoon.
Bella gets pregnant by Edward, the baby is a vampire and Edward turns her in a diy cesarean type scenario?
Did I get that right?
WTF? Where did that come from. It's more plot than in the whole of the set!

I sent that to you TeamEdward. Smile I hope you like it (kind of) Grin

Thank you.

The film of Breaking Dawn is going to be utter utter shite isn't it?

Only the jawline of Robert Pattinson and Jackson Rathbones icy stare will tempt me to watch it!

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 06/10/2010 21:18

That plot is very similar to Angel (spin off from Buffy the Vampire Slayer), he had a vampire girlfriend, she was pregnant, prophecy blah, blah.

Appletrees · 06/10/2010 21:20

Hurrah for you! but it's down as "adult fiction" in the book club. Tut.

auburnlizzy78 · 06/10/2010 21:22

Another thing. Do we agree that the imprinting thing is possibly the most creepy plotline ever to be written in a book? I have had heated debates on this matter with friends who say it's not creepy or sexual, but IT IS. It's the same for Jacob/Bella's baby as with Jacob's mate who imprinted on a child (Claire?). Both are waiting till the kids get old enough so they can get married or whatever. There is something I'm sure I remember at the end of book four which lends support to the theory but don't want to spoil. Anyway, ewwwwwww!

Having said that, I actually really liked the first half of book four - thought the birth and transformation was fantastically well written. May well be in a minority here!

On the sperm question: Rosalie was "turned" at 17 ish and she is infertile because whereever she was in her cycle, she was "frozen" at that point. But Edward was different as men are constantly renewing sperm and so even when human males become vampires and their reproductive systems are "frozen" at that point, they're still fertile. Best not to analyse this one too much....

Skyrg · 06/10/2010 21:22

Didn't the author say she loved her character so much she gave her the name she was planning for her own daughter? Isabella...
So it's a bit weird that she makes the girl suffer constantly.

Mozette. Unfortunately, Robert pattinsons eyebrows totally overshadow any other redeeming features he may have!

I'd forgotten about imprinting! The small child thing and waiting for them to grow up is definitely creepy. The word that springs to mind is 'grooming'!

They get married, because Edward refuses to turn Bella into a vampire unless they are married.

Then she persuades him to have sex with her, even though he is worried that he willl accidentally eat her in the throes of passion

(see - no sex before marriage)

Then baby, vampiric c-section, etc.

JjandtheBeanlovesUnicorns · 06/10/2010 23:04

YABU, i love twilight, and id ditch dp in a second for edward.

drfayray · 06/10/2010 23:48

Please do not get too excited by Vampires Suck Sad as it is shite. I have a copy (courtesy of Malaysian DVD shop Wink. My DD, who is a Twilight fan and likes the films, thought it was shite too.

I bought the series as I like to have a digit on the pulse of popular culture but only read the first one. I can never ever get those hours back Sad. Ever.

Hermya321 · 06/10/2010 23:48

I have a love/hate relationship with Twilight, I can't help but read the books and can't put them down but at the same time as I'm reading them I'm shouting at the characters.

The line; "About three things I was absolutely positive. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him-and I didn?t know how potent that part might be-that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him." bugs me something cronic. This is said after E tells B he wants to drain her blood.

If a guy said that to me in a forrest, I wouldn't be waving at him through my window and professing undying feelings of love. I would change my name and flee the country.

Still that said, I think the fic is better than the actual books.

hmc · 06/10/2010 23:49

its bollocks isn't it. I am mystified how grown women of reasonable intelligence can like it

Skyrg · 07/10/2010 00:11

Is she not remotely surprised he's a vampire and... y'know... all that we know about medical science is wrong??

Bunbaker · 07/10/2010 07:07

"Mozette. Unfortunately, Robert pattinsons eyebrows totally overshadow any other redeeming features he may have!"

He doesn't have any redeeming features as far as I'm concerned. I understand he is regarded as a bit of a heart-throb. He just doesn't do it for me. Mind you, I am old enough to be his mother and I am no Joan Collins!

SoupDragon · 07/10/2010 12:54

I found the whole imprinting with children pretty uncomfortable too. Revolting concept.

Skyrg · 07/10/2010 13:44

Doesn't the child age really quickly though?

What did you think of me book TeamEdward? Blush

serenity · 10/10/2010 15:07

I like Twilight (like, not fangirl), it's tosh, but entertaining tosh. I actually defended it in a magazine article, but more because I got peeved with all the bile aimed at the people who don't hate it with a burning passion, than because it's a particularly good.

Would always recommend Anne Rice's vision, or Charlene Harris (Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood) over Stephanie Meyer.

Incidentally SM started out as a Harry Potter fanfic writer iirc Grin
