I've ever had the misfortune to read!
I've stuck with it, because everyone loves them, but crikey. I've eaten jam sandwiches with more plot!
Don't get me wrong, I know it's more for teenagers, but dear God, I'm halfway through the third book, and bugger all has happened!

What is fan fic?

TrillianAstra · 06/10/2010 14:10

Fan fiction GetOrf - stories written by fans using the characters or settings from books/tv/films etc.

TrillianAstra · 06/10/2010 14:11

Obviously most of it is shit, because there is a reason most people aren't writers. Some of it is (allegedly) very good.

MrsChemist · 06/10/2010 14:13

I've read some very good fanfic. In fact, there is one that I know of that sadly has been pulled off the net because the author has had a book published.
It doesn't create a good impression for a author to have fanfic floating about the internet, I suppose.

But, yes, the majority of it is absolute shite.

Eldritch,
"I love Twilight I agree it is really badly written in places"....
...only in places???

Lemons?

I think we need a fanfic glossary :)

roseability · 06/10/2010 14:31

I like it but I also agree with a lot of the opinions here Grin

I like books and consider myself to have quite high standards. This series is badly written in places and just sheer indulgence in fantasy. Yes the central relationship is a bit weird in places. It is not the kind of stuff I would normally like at all

But there is something about it that took me back to my teenage self. Not the love for a pretty boy obsessed with me. Just the atmosphere and the angst I suppose. Yes I am too old for all that now but I had a rubbish home life as a teenager and had all but written those years off. These books seemed to remind me of the good bits about my teenage self

roseability · 06/10/2010 14:33

Okay spooky badly written generally. However as someone who has read War & Peace, even twilight has moments of nice literature

SoupDragon · 06/10/2010 14:33

"Does Bella die in the end"

Sadly not. Worse than that, she's fecking immortal. more or less.

roseability · 06/10/2010 14:35

I have to admit this thread has got me laughing Grin

I read Anne Rice afterwards as it sparked an interest in vampire literature. I thought that was beautifully written

TrillianAstra · 06/10/2010 14:36

I don't think stakes work on these vampires...

Keep reading the Anne Rice. She is amazing! Occasionally you get a lemon, but most are cracking. You could also try the witchy ones as well. Vv good.

Team I admire your commitment to sparkle motion. You are the Queen of Slutbunters.

claireb1974 · 06/10/2010 14:50

well this will please you no end.................................................there is talk of adding to the Twilight saga Grin Grin Grin

Bucharest · 06/10/2010 15:53

Oh god. It's going to be like Rocky.

Yer man is going to be there, in 30 yrs time, all facelifted, still doing that bluelippy thing.

Baby bound to be a plug in the fillums because they usually use director's nieces and stuff don't they? (Jon-Ross Ewing anyone Grin He'd have killed a vampire at 30 paces just by showing it his face)

prettyfly1 · 06/10/2010 17:51

Guys I am sorry - I just tried to read that "twinned" thing. REALLY? That is total wxxk. Sorry but it is - pretentious, wordy, shallow and blah. Fan fic . Humbug.

LookDickSaidFanny · 06/10/2010 17:55
SoupDragon · 06/10/2010 17:58

Unless "adding to the Twilight saga" involves a nasty bloodless bloodbath where all key characters are decapitated, I'm not interested.

ShowOfHands · 06/10/2010 17:59

It's just diabolical. Utter, terrible, poorly written bollocks about a simpering idiot who falls down a long and a sparkly, cold, boring vampire.

And I like fanfic. Truly, I write the damn stuff. But I only write about believable, enjoyable, interesting characters. I just can't enjoy twi-fic because the dross that spawned it is rubbish.

Did I mention Bella falls over?

And Edward is cold?

Oh and I think it rains sometimes.

GetOrfMoiLand · 06/10/2010 18:01

And people chuckle a lot.

Who the fuck chuckles in real life (other than the chuckle brothers, RIP)

thesunshinesbrightly · 06/10/2010 18:07

I don't care, i would love to find Edward in my bedroom.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 06/10/2010 18:15

YANBU.

Teenage angst drivel extrordinaire.
