Why on earth are people objecting so much? Do they really think that the standard method of killing an animal is any less cruel?

Quite mad.

Muslim terrorists! Can you honestly not see the association. I'm perfectly aware that not every Muslim as a terrorist but its just another hypocritical religion which is currently causing disruptions in my life and worse in others.

FlookCrow · 03/10/2010 19:39

Actually desertgirl, I specifically didn't buy halal meat, for the very reason that I am not of the religion for which it is killed. That is the choice that has been taken away - that there is no indicator as to whether or not the meat is halal when it is.

FlookCrow · 03/10/2010 19:39

And another thing, how do you know what meat I buy/don't buy?!

MaMoTTaT · 03/10/2010 19:39

well - take a moment to think of the many Muslims (such as Riven) who are spat at, and have racist abuse shouted at them as they go about their normal daily business like you or I.

Or are told to "go back to where you come from"........... (that's London innit Riven???)

usualsuspect · 03/10/2010 19:42

There is a fucking EDL march in my town on Saturday ..all the muslim girls that work in the city centre shops are terrified ,thanks to people with veiws like Alouise..My ds has many muslim friends all born here, not one of them wants to blow you up

have to say Riven didn't really look like she wanted to blow me up - which was rather nice seen as though she knows I'm a practising Christian. (though I did wonder what she had hidden under her hijab Wink and everyone else thought that Jesus had been on the scene and performed a miracle when she walked from her motorised chair to the cafe chair Grin)

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 03/10/2010 19:45

Are the IRA Catholic terrorist then?

PinkieMinx · 03/10/2010 19:45

I actually find it offensive that as a non-religious person I am expected not to care about ritualistic killing. My choice is to have no involvement with religion and i don't like it forced onto me. It is equally intoloerant to say I should put aside my belief system (one based on facts not mythical men in the sky!)

Flook, basically what I am trying to say is that I can't see what choice has been taken away since you have no idea whether the meat you used to buy was halal or not. If meat is unlabelled, you don't know (and have never known) how it was killed.

Buying meat which was specifically slaughtered by the method you believe to be most humane I can appreciate but there has never as far as I know been any guarantee as to how a particular portion of meat in the supermarket was killed - the only way you would know is if it were expressly labelled as halal, kosher, killed-by-specified-slaughterhouse-using-specified-process or whatever. And unless I am missing something that hasn't changed, just a lot more of the unspecified meat happens to have been killed using the halal method than used to be the case

MaMoTTaT · 03/10/2010 19:46

how is it being forced onto you to eat a chicken leg that has had a few words uttered over it?

No-one is forcing you to say a few words over your chicken before you eat it.

I do eat Halal meat, because that is what is served at my school.

I have bought Halal meat when we had a Muslim live-in nanny.

But I would never choose it otherwise. I would prefer to have meat that was humanely (imo) slaughtered.

oh I know - maybe next year??

was just as well really I didn't plan a trip down your way into my summer holidays after the lost bag and being stranded=delay in Edinburgh it would have put me well out and just wouldn't have been able to afford it.

MaMoTTaT · 03/10/2010 19:50

MMe - so you'd never eat a chicken that was killed by the person that reared it and cooked for you?

That's a shame - don't travel overseas too much will you - especially to poorer countries - as it's quite common for them to slit a chickens throat/break it's neck, cook it up and serve it to you - and you wouldn't want to offend them.

PMSL @ Riven praying over various herds of animals Grin

Alouiseg · 03/10/2010 19:51

Well, i'll tell the nice people at the airport that they really shouldn't bother with all this security because the Muslims are all lovely ladies who chat on Mumsnet and dont want to hurt anyone.

I'm sure that you are right and they are all wrong.

Shall I skype MI6 while im at it? Tell them that they are a bunch of sillies?

What about all the people i know who had colleagues and families working in Twin Towers, they could come for a little chat and you could explain that Muslims didnt do it! It was just a few rotten apples, im sure they"ll feel much better about it.

Now lets see who'll be the first to "hide the thread"

PinkieMinx · 03/10/2010 19:51

Of course as it doesn't bother you it shouldn't bother me - i thought this was about opinions Hmm

Desert girl, if meat had no label, then I can assume it is killed according to UK law, either by a bolt gun, or one of the various other humane ways of killing an animal.

Now, I am being told that halal meat has been knowingly sold with no label. So I have probably unknowningly bought halal meat. That is wrong, and has taken away the choice of me knowingly buying meat that is not halal.

Can you not see the difference there?

MmeBlueberry · 03/10/2010 19:52

Huh? Are you mixing me up with someone else?

And I might go and rub pork all over the halal meat - how utterly childish
