to be frightened of MN 'Royalty'

Hi everyone

I'm new to MN, been lurking for a couple of days and just starting to post, but I'm a bit confused (frightened) by something.

Some people seem to post nasty things, and then other posters say "ignore her, she's MN Royalty" or similar.

So what's MN Royalty, and why do they get to be mean? Is there a members list somewhere so I know who to look out for?!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone...

dont be silly.ive never ever seen 'ignore her, shes mn royalty'.
dont be frightened, what would you do in rl if someone was 'mean'?

SecretNutellaFix · 01/10/2010 23:47

Katie- MNroyalty is a bit of an injoke.

I think you'll find that people will disagree if they believe opinions to be skewed no matter who the poster is.

Just jump in. We don't bite. Hard, anywayWink

I would recommend avoiding the Am I being UNreaosnable section until you do feel a bit more confident as that is where more strident personalities com outGrin

Welcome to MN!

SecretNutellaFix · 01/10/2010 23:48

sorry- my typing is a bit crap tonight- that should have said unreasonable.Smile

WilfShelf · 01/10/2010 23:48

Really? Can you let us know which threads someone has used that phrase on - I'd be interested to see it actually in use, because I haven't yet, in three years, except in posts like this!

i hate the idea of mn royalty, but IMO it is like when I joined 4 years ago and we had the "oldies"
ignore it and join in

DiscoSquish · 01/10/2010 23:48

Chat is more gentle :)

ledkr · 01/10/2010 23:49

ha ha yes i have noticed that too. There are some great strong characters on here but just tread carefully at first and do not post on am i being unreasonable unless you feel strong enough to take it.I dont know who the royalty is but i am starting to recognise the names too and they are just out spoken. Just ignore any nasty comments. Enjoy it i sometimes sit here with tears running down my cheeks its great. Welcome.

larks35 · 01/10/2010 23:49

Que??? Royalty on MN? Who is this? I've been here a coupl'a years now and I don't think I've ever seen a mention of royalty. There are a few posters who name themselves Princessblahblah but I never took it seriously. Have I missed out on something?

OP, where have you seen these mentions of "MN Royalty"? You're making MN sound cliquey and I can honestly say that I don't think it is. Bitchy - yes, sometimes bang out of order - yes, but cliquey - noooo!

usualsuspect · 01/10/2010 23:50

Welcome ..post what you like really, I do

MrsMadWriggle · 01/10/2010 23:50

Hi Katie

(I'm not Royalty BTW.)

They're just people who need to get a life spend a lot of time on here and who are overexposed very well known.

As you've probably gathered, people tend to say it how it is on Mumsnet, particularly those who have been around for a while. And the "ignore her, she's royalty" comments are usually slightly facetious.

I think most of the Royalty object to the label, although some will try and proclaim that they are Royal to get you to lick their bottoms suck up to them.

If you are lucky you may get dry-humped by a regular as I did when I was a newbie.

Welcome to Mumsnet.

MrsMadWriggle · 01/10/2010 23:52

DiscoSquish - I clicked on your link and it took me to chat with the first posting saying "a very rude sex question". Gentle, eh?

SpeedyGonzalez · 01/10/2010 23:52

Yes, YABU, because (a) they're only people, and (b) in this context they're not even real people really; they're just words on a screen. So don't sweat it. You can always namechange if you decide you've had an unpleasant altercation and want a clean slate. But don't let the hard nuts put you off.

And welcome! Grin

Yes, I'd love to see those posts too KatieRyan. If you have trouble linking, I can probably search them out for you. What were the threads about?

BitOfFun · 01/10/2010 23:55

Never seen that said either. Are you sure you are new and not just shit-stirring? Grin

well I am Spartacus

KatieRyanMum86 · 01/10/2010 23:57

Oh dear, now I feel like you're all calling me a liar!

I was paraphrasing, there hasn't been that exact phrase but I saw a few mentions of royalty, so I put the term into the search box and loads of threads came up about them, but nothing really specific... makes them seem a bit like the Illuminati!

I did definitely see a post tonight somewhere along the lines of someone being royalty and therefore not to be taken seriously, maybe on the shitlist thread?

OP posts:
MrsMadWriggle · 01/10/2010 23:58

Katy - next thing they'll be accusing you of being a journo. (That happened to me along with the dry-humping)

KatieRyanMum86 · 01/10/2010 23:59

Who dry-humped you!?

(very frightened now!)

scottishmummy · 01/10/2010 23:59
