to be frightened of MN 'Royalty'

Hi everyone

I'm new to MN, been lurking for a couple of days and just starting to post, but I'm a bit confused (frightened) by something.

Some people seem to post nasty things, and then other posters say "ignore her, she's MN Royalty" or similar.

So what's MN Royalty, and why do they get to be mean? Is there a members list somewhere so I know who to look out for?!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone...

I'm now re-thinking all I said earlier about MN not being cliquey - yer bunch of princesses!

MrsMW - I'll have some fromage if there's any going, frottage is likely to rub me up the wrong way Grin

MrsMadWriggle · 02/10/2010 00:45

fromage not on offer. I think the pink mouse has scoffed it all

MN Royalty is an insult.

It is what a person says when they want to be mean. When someone is not winning an argument the reason is everyone is siding with the Royalty, not that they are wrong!

It's a way of putting the other person down, devaluing their input, implying that they talk shit and nobody really agrees with them, they just pretend to.

It's not a compliment. At all.

MoralDefective · 02/10/2010 11:23

I didn't realise this was an insult....i thought it was MNetters who thought they were the 'school prefect'......the one's every one wanted to be friends with....Blush

HecateQueenOfWitches · 02/10/2010 11:26

No. Nobody ever calls themselves royalty.

It's only ever used in an argument, against someone.

It's a big insult Grin

fryalot · 02/10/2010 11:30

I've been here for... ahem... a little while Wink and I have always wondered whether to be MN royalty would be a good or bad thing Hmm

still haven't decided, but after reading this thread, p'raps I'm erring on the side of bad...

keep up people! op's a (harmless) troll!

Mumi · 02/10/2010 13:50

Heh, troll or not, I give as good as I get from anyone on here, no matter who they are, in kindness as well as flaming of course [angel emoticon]

Curious question. If you're a MNer starting wind-up threads, does that make you a troll? I see it as just light entertainment.

Agree re 'royalty' being idiotic. I also REALLY loathe the arselicky threads saying how great some MNers are.

jameelaq · 03/10/2010 01:45

Cock of the North. What is this some sort of Freudian faux penis envy. Matriarchs the lot of you

proudnglad · 03/10/2010 08:55

Yuck to 'MN Royalty' and arse licking in general.

But I agree with others, I've never heard anyone say 'ignore she's MN Royalty'.

There are characters and regulars on here but no hierarchy. If some people think there is, than let them wallow in their delusions. Be free!

Alouiseg · 03/10/2010 09:03

Never mind MN royalty, just avoid the Shitlist!

FellatioNelson · 03/10/2010 12:34

I've been here on and off for a couple of years now, and apart from one slightly wearisome person I'm still not entirely sure who the MN Royalty actually is.

Talker2010 · 03/10/2010 12:42

Well I am new and had not seen anything on here other than normal forum behaviour ... some people have clearly been here a while and there are some "in jokes" etc but I have not seen any "royalty" comments

On a different forum where I post people are obsessed with the "Mafia" I guess that this is the same

TrillianAstra · 03/10/2010 12:50

Starting a thread under a different name in order to shit-stir.

Yep, that's trolling.

But not all trolling is bad. Some trolling is gentle joking, other trolling is designed to upset or anger people, some trolling is just weird with no apparent agenda, other trolling might be designed to get money out of people, some trolls might just want attention or sympathy.

Not that I recall Riven, only a couple of posters have dared to name names.
