Just wondering... If there are, please tell me how you justify your believes as a religion?!

why would they be here? and I don't think they go around justifying themselves, you're probably barking up the wrong tree.

Meglet · 28/09/2010 21:25

they are all bonkers.

MadAboutQuavers · 28/09/2010 21:28

I don't think they're allowed to discuss their beliefs and doctrines in any detail

All organised religion is a method of control anyway

nameymcnamechange · 28/09/2010 21:30

This is not a topic for AIBU.

Why have you started it?

ZZZenAgain · 28/09/2010 21:30

if they cannot discuss it in any detail, how do they spread the word, expand their set-up I wonder?

well there might be some on MN, Scientologists will be parents too but I don't know why this is in AIBU really.

Why do you think they are not justified in referring to their beliefs as a religion amarone?

amarone · 28/09/2010 21:32

I'm genuinely curious; I really want to hear it from their point of view.

Come you Scientologist lot, enlighten me!

mrsgordonfreeman · 28/09/2010 21:34

I think it's hard to justify belief in what is basically a pyramid sales scheme as a religion.

scurryfunge · 28/09/2010 21:34

Bit insulting OP.....why don't you read up on the religion if you are interested?

amarone · 28/09/2010 21:35

How can it be a 'religion' when it was dreamt up by a SciFi writer?!

OP posts:
ZZZenAgain · 28/09/2010 21:36

no idea. Don't know anything much about it tbh. Maybe you'd get a response in spirituality or whatever the topic is called religion/spirituality something like that.

ZZZenAgain · 28/09/2010 21:37

[http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/philosophy_religion_spirituality I mean here]]

BarmyArmy · 28/09/2010 21:38

Currently watching Panorama - all about them and their curious ways...

Quite illuminating!

ZZZenAgain · 28/09/2010 21:38

no, sorry
pirituality here

ZZZenAgain · 28/09/2010 21:39

blast
can't get it to work but it is there under Body and Soul

lol jinxed

said · 28/09/2010 21:40

What's insulting?

It has to have been invented as an experiment to see if anyone would fall for it.

conkie · 28/09/2010 21:42

If someone wants to believe it, I don't have a problem with it. Why are you so against? IMO all religion is made up so to me people believing in scientology is the exact same as people believing in the bible, qu'ran etc..

amarone · 28/09/2010 21:46

Scurryfunge, I have read up on the 'religion' and I'm still absolutely lost. I want to hear it from any of them.

OP posts:
ZZZenAgain · 28/09/2010 21:47

am trying to load the S website to find out in what way they define themselves as a religion but it won't load

scurryfunge · 28/09/2010 21:49

Agree it is a pile of shite, as is all religion, in my opinion, but you are being confrontational with those that believe....live and let live.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 28/09/2010 21:52

Meh. It just looks a bit odder than the others because it's new.

On MN in 2060, someone will be posting 'AIBU to not want DS taught all this stuff about aliens?' and 300 people jumping on them with 'what do you expect from a Scientology faith school, you idiot?'

amarone, I think you have to pay to find out the details, so they probably don't broadcast that much about the faith. Just a taster to get you sucked in... Grin

mrsgordonfreeman · 28/09/2010 21:55

Try the Wikipedia article if you are curious.

Basically it is a series of courses for which you pay, purporting to cure your personality problems.

ZZZenAgain · 28/09/2010 21:56

yes, I tried to upload their "creed" on their uk website but connection fails.

Maybe it is a long long creed.

Sounds more like a kind of therapy than religion if you put it like that.

amarone · 28/09/2010 21:57

I'm not trying to be confrontational. I just genuinely want to hear it from someone in that sect, what's it all about.

All media reports are quite derogatory.

OP posts:
SixtyFootDoll · 28/09/2010 21:59

I thought that followers are not allowed to use the internet and are discouraged form watching news on TV.
If thats the case then there wont be any on MN

amarone · 28/09/2010 22:03

I was just hoping there might be an odd Scientologist on here willing to talk...
