Our full times salaries are approximately the same, however I work fewer hours than him so my "actual" pay is obviously less.

nymphadora · 23/09/2010 14:14

Currently about 5 times as much although this will be changing soon

omaoma · 23/09/2010 14:15

I have always earned more than DH, at some points almost double, including now I'm part time (tho I mean pro rata). We are in the same sector, although different job types. I think I am less picky tho!

Geocentric · 23/09/2010 14:15

I freelance from home. He has a "proper" salary. No comparison.

But before we had children I earned twice as much, and at one point was only income. (However he's younger than me and was still starting out on his career at the time...)

Deliaskis · 23/09/2010 14:18

We earn more or less the same but I work fewer hours (both FT but his a little more brutal than mine).

BeneathCompetent · 23/09/2010 14:18

I earn more than DH, about £8000 more. We both have the same job, but I've had mine longer and my employer is far more generous.

Callisto · 23/09/2010 14:18

DH earns loads and loads more than me, but he is private sector managing director and my work is more vocational plus I do all after school and holiday care for DD. I am going to do a degree, but even if I manage to finish it my earning potential will only go up a bit so he will still earn loads more than me.

Why do you ask?

Mishy1234 · 23/09/2010 14:18

I've always earned more (including part-time) until very recently. DH was doing a part-time MBA which narrowed his options for 3 years, but now he's finished he's been able to be more flexible reL travel etc.

MrsC2010 · 23/09/2010 14:18

We've chopped and changed. When we first met I earnt around £30k p/a more as he was taking time out to do some yachting. Then I quit my job to retrain as a teacher and he went back to his previous career so he was earning about £30k more thsn me. Then I started a different training programme while he started one too, and I earnt a little more than him. Now he is doing the programme I did last year and I'm not earning as I'm at home with the baby!

yama · 23/09/2010 14:20

We earn about the same but I work far, far fewer hours so my hourly rate is greater.

If you factor in what we save in childcare because of my working fewer hours I guess I earn more. Smile

jemjabella · 23/09/2010 14:20

I'd earn about £500 more if I worked full time, but I don't. We're both in the same area of work but he works for a school and I work privately.

Before we had children I earned double DH's salary.
Now I earn 20 times less than him - his income has climbed very gradually, mine has dropped off a cliff! But I used to work very long hours and now I just do the odd bit of freelance to fit in with school hours and school holidays etc.

LinenBasket · 23/09/2010 14:21

8 x more than mine.

I prefer his payday to mine!

minipie · 23/09/2010 14:21

DH earns about 3 times what I earn.

We both work in the City, but in different sectors.

NordicPrincess · 23/09/2010 14:22

ive just been thinking most of the women i know even those with out children seem to earn a good 10k less that their partners.
my dp is an engineer and not managment etc..im just wonering how many other women earn a lot less than thier husbands.

Are you husbands professionals? i forget how you become a professional, i know teachers, police etc...

Its a shame that men in general seem to earn so much more i suppose im trying to find trends etc

mousymouse · 23/09/2010 14:22

I earn about double. but hopefully that is about to change (carreer change for him).

SeaTrek · 23/09/2010 14:22

DH earns approx 3x my full-time salary including his average bonus. However I only work 30%. In terms of actual take-home pay (after tax/pension etc)each month he brings in 6x more than me - but has a bonus on top of that so really it is more on an annual basis.
I have a professional job that require post-grad qualifications and he left education at 16 - he just happens to be in an industry that pays a lot more and has worked his way up.

nameymcnamechange · 23/09/2010 14:22

I am applying for a part time job at the moment, salary level about £25,000 pro rata.

DH works more or less full time. Well, it varies enormously, some weeks he'll work 2 days, other weeks he'll work 6 long days (self employed). He earns about 3 times what I could earn working full time. But he is in very skilled job.

We have always earned around the same.

He has just recently got a new job where he is earning about £40K more than me.

I don't like it. Felt better equal. Think it will cause hassle.

fedupwithdeployment · 23/09/2010 14:23

Currently he earns about £20k more than me, although this could change as he is public sector and I am not.

but as Callisto says, why do you want to know?

greensnail · 23/09/2010 14:23

I've always earnt more than him. He's currently working part time due to health issues so I'm taking home more than him even though I'm on mat leave. Hopefully this will change soon though.

Sullwah · 23/09/2010 14:25

My DH earns many many more times than I do.

And we spend the equivalent of 40% of my salary on a nanny to cover my PT job

Don't know I bother really

SaorAlba · 23/09/2010 14:25

I earn about the same as DP, but I work about 25-35 hours a week and DP averages over 45 hours a week.
