I love watching most stand up, but God that man makes my teeth chang. I can't even watch him for more than a minute. He just laughs the whole time and walks around a lot.

Am I missing something?

Where are the laughs? At the end?

I mean...sell out tours???

Que?

OOH OOH nomdeplume

You said "Cannot stand Al Murray. DH likes him, I think can't bear the character of the pub landlord. Especially when you know he's an ex-boarding school, Oxbridge boy taking the piss out of what he perceives to be the stupid, bigotted working classes.

Twat"

I have been banging on in that very same vein to DP about Al Murray for years. He thinks I am nuts and have got a chip on my shoulder. But I genuinely loathe the fact that he is an oxbridge boy mocking what he percieves to be tyical working class attitudes. The jumped up prick. He is like the Guy Ritchie of the comedy world. And it is not even that fucking funny.

SO pleased I am not alone in this view.

FellatioNelson · 16/09/2010 09:48

But do you feel equally angry about Paul Whitehouse doing this vair var drunk posh man with RP, Getorf?Wink

Or Tim nice but Dim?

Or any working class comedian who ever took the piss out of posh people, because that is far, far more prevalent.

Allora · 16/09/2010 09:49

I'm starting to think that it might be generational...?

I don't find Russell Howard funny, or Jimmy Carr, or the dour Scottish guy on mock the week...actually can't watch it. Al Murray and Dara O'Brain are both funny though.

When Phoenix nights first came out I think I did hurt from laughing - but sadly have heard that PK is a total twat and he clearly got way too big for his boots. His later stuff was rubbish...

Recently the things that have made me laugh the most are summer heights high and 30 rock

not stand up but cited to show that I do still have a funny bone honest! oh and I love the Flight of the Conchords songs but find the series a bit zzzz

MM just seems so deeply unoriginal to me. I feel like I have heard it all before...

But yes - horses for courses....:)

I don't watch much TV so I have missed many of these, but I saw PK on the One Show and he was embarrassing and arrogant IMO. He though he could just sit there being silent, or awkwardly cryptic, with an enigmatic smile on his face, making the presenters feel uncomfortable, and it would be funny. It wasn't. It was cringey watch through your fingers stuff.

mayorquimby · 16/09/2010 12:06

"Recently the things that have made me laugh the most are summer heights high "

sorry to swear but, what a fucking show! it's absolutely brilliant.

Winedine69me · 16/09/2010 13:43

What is summer heights high?

Winedine69me · 16/09/2010 13:44

Has anyone seen Russell Peters? Love him :)

mayorquimby · 16/09/2010 15:09

Summer heights high is an aussie comedy about a secondary school with one actor playing a variety of roles. It's brilliant and a bit of a send-up of aussie soaps

Allora · 16/09/2010 15:18

I know mayorquimby. i have watched the series twice and maybe laughed more the second time. It's just brilliant.

I could start quoting at you but that would slam the door shut on the thread I think!

There is a DVD of his first series called Australian of the year in which Jaim'ee appears for the first time. I haven't got it but apparently it is very good too.

mayorquimby · 16/09/2010 17:43

Australian of the year is brlliantly funny as well.

pointydog · 17/09/2010 10:46

Flight of the conchords. Now that's funny.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 17/09/2010 12:04

Oh hubris, oh nemesis... babysitter is sick so tonight's Dara O Briain venture hangs in the balance...

mumeeee · 17/09/2010 12:09

YABU. We all really like him in this family. It's one pf the things that DD2 20 actually agrres about with us and that's not any things!

Avaggdu · 10/10/2010 21:41

I agree. He just isn't funny. He's not even anti-funny funny. He's just like the 1970 and 80's "light entertainment" drivel we put up with then because there was no option, without the charm of being in those decades.

He used to be a warm-up comedian, which is where he should have stayed. Absolutely mediocre at best.

GabbyLoggon · 22/11/2010 15:01

Little Titch was funny. (But of his time.)

Dan Leno had us in stitches.

But I did not really get The Office

The comics have a lot to thank the BBC for.

Joan Rivers has me falling about. (Especially the dark stuff)

Rowan Williams is a slow burner. Audiences dont like beards..

Luxury Logan? could crack gags. Drawly like the lateGeorge Burns. (who made a ton)

NordicPrincess · 22/11/2010 15:06

i find him really really sexy...i quite love him
