To really not understand why people find Michael Mcintyre funny?

I love watching most stand up, but God that man makes my teeth chang. I can't even watch him for more than a minute. He just laughs the whole time and walks around a lot.

Am I missing something?

Where are the laughs? At the end?

I mean...sell out tours???

Que?

Michael Mcintyre is the king of comedy Grin

tokyonambu · 14/09/2010 20:38

It's always good to figure out the least funny comedians, to provide a baseline to build from. For example, nothing Lenny Henry has ever said or done is worth the slightest titter. By that standard, McIntyre is a colossus bestriding the comedy stage.

Hulababy · 14/09/2010 20:39

I dont particulalry like Lee Evans either. I just don't find him very funny.

NorbertDentressangle · 14/09/2010 20:40

I like Michael MacIntyres material - his observational humour is great but I find his voice and mannerisms intensely irritating.

Sidge · 14/09/2010 20:42

I think MM is hilarious - I love observational comedy and when I saw him live at Brighton last year I hadn't laughed so much in a long time.

Horses for courses - I find Frankie Boyle dull as fuck.

cyb · 14/09/2010 20:44

I went ot see Michael Mcintyre at Wembley and he was POOR. Too big a stage, lame material.

Then I saw Stewart Lee in a small club in London and was floored. Every other stand up is crap by comparison

KERALA1 · 14/09/2010 20:44

I think hes great really funny.

But Eddie Izzard - I actually fell asleep in one of his live performances (admittedly I was exceptionally knackered but still).

Pan · 14/09/2010 20:46

Desparately mediocre, which means really boring! Must have really good agent/publiscist. Shiney, bland, unfunny. Yet he sold cds of his 'live acts'( a real misnomer) by the shed laod last year.

utterly forgettable.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 14/09/2010 20:49

I'd like Lee Evans more if he didn't say fuck quite so often. It doesn't make a poor joke funnier because you say fuck 20 times.

SecretSquirrel193 · 14/09/2010 20:53

I find the man drawer one of the funniest bits ever, but my fave comedians are the welsh guy and the young scottish lad but I think they're very marmite, especially Kevin

Mspontipine · 14/09/2010 20:53

I love Mr Mcintyre. Just your critisism of him made me giggle!!

"He just laughs the whole time and walks around a lot"

Exactly!!! Grin

Pan · 14/09/2010 20:56

Sorry. Only the great late, comic bestriding the stage(!) Tommy Cooper could get away with being absolutely hilarious without saying anything at all.

MM versus Tommy Cooper? Oh, stop it.

FellatioNelson · 14/09/2010 20:57

We bought the CD of a live Rob Brydon gig to get us through an interminable journey, from a motorway station. Now that was bloody hilarious. My DH wet his pants and he never laughs at anything.

Rob Brydon doing an impression of Al Pacino reading 'The Gruffalo' is the best thing EVER.

Ladyanonymous · 14/09/2010 20:59

He hilarious :D

OH and I are going to see Kevin Bridges in a few weeks....hoping hes going to be funny live Grin

cyb · 14/09/2010 20:59

Stewart Lee said Michael Mcintyre 'Spoon feeds you his warm diarrhea'

Tippychoocks · 14/09/2010 21:03

I can't watch MMcM because I find myself imitating his speech patterns in my head. So my internal voice sounds squeaky and indignant and flabbery. Which is annoying.

FourEyesGood · 14/09/2010 21:03

I can't stand Michael Macintyre either, and I'm pleased that there are at least a few others who agree. He looks irritating, he sounds irritating and he's not funny. Or at least, as my husband has just pointed out, "He is a bit funny sometimes, but not funny enough to be as famous or as popular as he is, and not funny enough to make up for being so annoying."

RaisedFromPerdition · 14/09/2010 21:09

I love MM and Eddie Izzard.

Russell Howard's lightbulb in mouth sketch is quite possibly the funniest thing I've ever seen/heard.

RaisedFromPerdition · 14/09/2010 21:09

And Tim Minchin?

Brilliant.

DollyTwat · 14/09/2010 21:11

I don't get him either, it's the prancing about stage screeching that gets me. His material does have some funny bits, it's the delivery of it that just grates.

Can't stand Lee Evans either, but I think it's the sweating that makes me feel sick

knit1purl1 · 14/09/2010 21:20

Lurking but astonished to see so many MichaelMcIntyre fans and not enough YANBUs.

He seems really professional to me, if you know what I mean. Touch of the Bob Monkhouses. I strongly suspect comedy classes and a dark underbelly of mime workshops.

Bunnyjo · 14/09/2010 21:20

I love Michael McIntyre and find his mannerisms add to his hilarity. I can see how some people find him insanely annoying though.

Rhod Gilbert and Kevin Bridges are my faves too. Saw Rhod's 'The cat that looked like Nicholas Lyndhurst' tour, live in April, and I was crying with laughter!

UnePrune · 14/09/2010 21:25

ROFL cyb
I recently saw Stewart Lee. Oh my god he is good. I adore him.

I have never, ever understood why Lee Evans is funny. MM - well he is clearly a good entertainer.
The one I really hate is Ricky Gervais. Chancrous. Vile.
Eddie Izzard's early stuff is hilarious but the last 3? have been shit.

I saw Chris Addison as well the other week and he was funny. Popcorn. Easy targets but funny. (We went to see Stewart Lee the same night and the difference was so obvious!)

FellatioNelson · 14/09/2010 21:32

I have a bit of a love/hate thing going on with Lee Evans. I think he is supremely talented, and very very funny, but the manic delivery, profuse sweating, and the OTT swearing and clearly seriously hyperactive nervous energy is a bit unnerving. When he's on form though, he's genius.

maduggar · 14/09/2010 21:39

I love him, his Scottish jokes were so funny (especially the Glaswegian airport gag).
