I have a girl nearly 7 and have to say I would not be happy about her walking around on her own. Even tho it is a country lane there are still dangers. My DD is nearly 7 and she does not know fully the dangers of road traffic and strangers. My DS is 9 and he just about knows but still I would not let either of mine go on their own. I have already told DS that he cannot go to school on his own until he is at big school as he would have to cross major roads. I agree that when we were young things seemed different but dangers were still there I just think we knew less about them.
