FGS!!! Come and tell DH that toilet brushes are DISGUSTING

I know that we've had this toilet brush conversation numerous times....but, Please come and let DH know that I am not being unreasonable to have put our toilet brush in the outside shed.

The sight of toilet brushes makes me feel sick. I bought those clip on flushable toilet brush thingys which I think is the more hygenic and pleasant approach to getting rid of the shit as it were Grin DH claims that everyone he knows owns/uses toilet brushes Hmm

Namechanged for this as I don't want DH (yes you) to know my regular name. Go easy on him as the argument has come up while he's making himself useful cleaning the bathroom, so it's not all craziness from him.

I have two toilet brushes. I can't get worked up over all the hysteria surrounding them to be honest.

I don't live on a council estate and never have.

CuttedUpPear · 29/11/2014 23:08

Bleach kills aquatic creatures and is harmful to wildlife.

Are you happy with that?

Bulbasaur · 29/11/2014 23:12
  1. If water is not washing all the poo down, you need better water pressure or a new diet.
  1. Just put the brush in a little container to sit it up in. Like this

Problem solved. :)

ArgentinianMalbec · 29/11/2014 23:20

I do wonder when I see these threads whether the people who don't have loo brushes but do use those disposable things that you flush away, are the same people who berate others for flushing tampons and bum wipes.....

If anyone cares, I've got a loo brush which matches the rest of my bathroom "furniture" and it doesn't have any visible poo on it as it gets used when cleaning the toilet with toilet duck then rinsed under the flush. It's not germ free undoubtedly, but you're only using it to clean shit so what's the problem!

Noellefielding · 29/11/2014 23:47

this must be a pure class thing.

When was it announced that they are disgusting? Is it a middle-class objection or an upper middle class thing? Do the Americans use them more merrily?

I know Aggie and Maggie were very anti them, said putting your gloved hands down the loo and scrubbing was much preferable, but that seems more vile to me than sticking a stick in.

Also if there's poo on it, it's washable off. I don't understand the antipathy.

I just found a youtube video of a woman putting denture cleaning tablets down the loo to clean it, much better for the environment.

Fabulous46 · 29/11/2014 23:50

We have hand held steam cleaners for the loos. No loo brushes are required. I suppose it must depend on people's diets on whether they need to scrub the shit off loos. A steam cleaner works perfectly well in our house.

Noellefielding · 29/11/2014 23:52

I want one!
please show a link to one!
has it an attachment that enters the bowl arena?!
how does it work?
Point and spray?
I don't have one yet but I want one.

Bambambini · 29/11/2014 23:53

Toilet brushes here. More Ecco friendly and best way to scrub off hardened poo! Folk are such wooses these days! You have poo particles all over your loo! Fucking wooses!

Op if your DH is cleaning the bathroom then shut up think yourself lucky. I would have 100 loo brushes. If mine would . He is the messiest bar steward in the toilet and thinks they clean themselves.

I would judge anyone that didn't have a toilet brush as being filthy, so there. If you get one of these they are hidden from view and can be left soaking in bleach. www.allianceuk.com/washroom-hygiene/toilet-brush-and-holder-closed-set-

Momagain1 · 30/11/2014 00:51

I just cant figure out where all this solid waste stuck in the bristles is coming from. If that is happening, you are doing it wrong. The brush is for once a week cleaning of the mold that grows under the rim, and that really rare bit of poo that won't dissolve after a couple of flushes. The brush itself is cleaned by the loo cleaning stuff, and the flush to rinse the toilet.

Poopers should check to see if the flush did the job. If not, flush again. A third time even. Streaks on the side usually disappear by then. I keep an old washing up liquid bottle with dilute soup (washing up liquid, shampoo or liquid hand soap you didnt like) and give stubborn streaks a couple of hards squirts. My brother, caretaking parent to 2 boys, taught him to treat streaks as 'targets'. (Eyeroll)

At any rate, before scrubbing, give it a flush so there is no toilet roll and as little poo as possible to get caught in the bristles. That seems obvious. Scrub, rinse in the flush, rinse in another flush if needed.

The only way I can imagine the brush getting so filthy is if you are using it to unblock the toilet, instead of a plunger.

Selks · 30/11/2014 01:21

Disposable loo cleaner things, chucking out bog brushes every few weeks, etc....won't anyone think of the planet? Sad

I wonder how many of you have ceased flushing tampons down the loo these days but are happy to flush disposable loo cleaners away? Just as bad for the eco system as flushing tampons...

shaska · 30/11/2014 01:33

Have not RTFT properly so don't know if I'm the only person who feels this way.

There is a horrible person deep inside me who feels that those stick-on-the-rim toilet cleaning things are trashy and judges when she sees them.

A toilet brush is the only way to get a toilet properly clean, aside from involving ones actual hands with the actual toilet.

I suppose ideally one would have a paid person who brought a toilet brush with them and then took it away again. But I don't, so the brush lives behind the toilet and I just don't think about it.

This means that I would rather live near a poo stick than be what I consider trashy. Which is, quite frankly, quite shameful. But there we go.

echt · 30/11/2014 01:47

Perspective needed.

For all those who boak at the thought of a toilet brush, do you really really think that everyone who uses your toilet, or any toilet you use, washes and dries their hands every time they go there?

Think about the door handle.

StatisticallyChallenged · 30/11/2014 02:49

Toilet brushes here too, no poo stuck to the bristles either! It's not a plunger. Not about to waste money buying flushable things, and sure as heck not sticking my hands down!

Bogeyface · 30/11/2014 02:53

We had to pay to get our sewer drain rodded and the guy asked if we use the dispoable things. We dont, but said that they have had no end of call outs from houses that do use them, so if you think "Oh it just flushes away" no it bloody doesnt.

Bleach the brush after you use it, job done. Or be pwecious pwincess and pollute the planet, up to you Hmm

Noellefielding · 01/12/2014 10:31

lol bogeyface hear hear!

bigbluestars · 01/12/2014 10:33

Toilet brushes are fine if you keep them clean. I pop mine in the top drawer of the dishwasher if it gets really grimy.

Noellefielding · 01/12/2014 10:46

that is hilarious but terrible even in jest I nearly brought up my mullerlight yoghurt!

ewwww
Shock
you need immediate help!

FluffyMcnuffy · 01/12/2014 11:21

Seems to be a LMC "thing" all the upper middle class people I know have a loo brush in their bathrooms.

I would be mortified not to have a loo brush in my guest loo, what if a visitor had a poo and couldn't remove the marks? Now that would be embarrassing.

Buttercupsanddaisys · 01/12/2014 11:27

The neighbour across the road is so proud of hers it's centre stage on her bathroom window sill.

The things you see when you change your specs.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 01/12/2014 11:40

Toilet brushes are useful for guests who might need one. They won't want to be going through cupboards looking for your cleaning things to find something else to use. I would be mortified to leave a less than clean bowl for my host to clean. Bleach should be used sometimes to soak the brush in the toilet bowl. You should not put bleach down several times per day.
