FGS!!! Come and tell DH that toilet brushes are DISGUSTING

I know that we've had this toilet brush conversation numerous times....but, Please come and let DH know that I am not being unreasonable to have put our toilet brush in the outside shed.

The sight of toilet brushes makes me feel sick. I bought those clip on flushable toilet brush thingys which I think is the more hygenic and pleasant approach to getting rid of the shit as it were Grin DH claims that everyone he knows owns/uses toilet brushes Hmm

Namechanged for this as I don't want DH (yes you) to know my regular name. Go easy on him as the argument has come up while he's making himself useful cleaning the bathroom, so it's not all craziness from him.

Hi cleanloo, why are you spamming our forum with thinly veiled ads for shit spatulae?

I love my loo brush Smile

eurochick · 10/08/2012 10:29

Everyone I know has a loo brush. I have 4 (4 loos). They are far more environmentally friendly than disposables or shoving loads of additional chemicals into the waste water system.

Ah, I have just spotted that this is a zombie thread revived to advertise a product...

eurochick · 10/08/2012 10:30

shewhowines rest assured, I have never expected anyone to sit on my loo brushes.

2M1VFO · 29/11/2014 20:59

Come across this thread, debating on when to do my moonlight toilet brush disappearing act, into the bin. Ours, which I never use, is on chrome with a sealed lid. Probably has enough potion inside to provide a nice spillage of anxiety onto the bathroom floor...lol.

What I do, instead of squirting bleach up around the rim of the loo, I go one step further. I always lift the lid off the cistern and squeeze some bleach in as it is filling after a flush. This way, you not only clean the rim & bowl, you clean all the channels and even the cistern....LOL. It's called OCD, but you can't buy it. ;) Sad, but true.

raltheraffe · 29/11/2014 21:02

that is a brilliant idea

Bartlebee · 29/11/2014 21:05

I don't know a single person that has a loo brush.

Disgusting, noisome things.

Fiddlerontheroof · 29/11/2014 21:06

IKEA sell toilet brushes for 40p....I buy them in bulk and chuck them at the first sign of them being disgusting :)

Lagoonablue · 29/11/2014 21:07

Those disposable ones are sooooo bad for the environment.

Purplepoodle · 29/11/2014 21:13

Toilet brushes are grim (esp when toddler gets hold of them). I'm a rubber glove gal and hand down the toilet with kitchen roll.

CrohnicallyAnxious · 29/11/2014 21:17

I have a loo brush.

I also have Crohn's disease, and frequently produce an amazing array of skid marks in the toilet- under the water line and often into the U bend.

Bleach alone would have no chance! I'm not sticking my hand into the water to scrub, even with rubber gloves (with your hand in that far, what if water goes over the top? Plus you now have dirty rubber gloves that don't come with a convenient holder to store them in, and how do you take them off and put them on next time without touching the outside?) And while the disposable brush thingies sound good, I could easily go through 3 a day- how much would that cost, and how much unnecessary waste would it produce?

I think I'll stick with my loo brush, and my current system of flush, cleaner, scrub, flush and rinse brush in flushing water. If and when the brush gets unbearably manky, it's time for a new one.

HadleyHemingway · 29/11/2014 21:25

Loo brushes are so cheap, you could throw one away and get a new one each fortnight for the amount of money you spend on those toilet duck things.

I really struggle to get that worked up about them tbh.

Also, not sure if anyone's said this already but the brown tint on the bristles isn't poo - it's the rust from the metal twists that the bristles are held in place by.

HTH

Eeeeekyeeek · 29/11/2014 21:36

Well, someone must be buying toilet brushes. There was a full shelf full in TK Maxx today.

And they're sold in their thousands in every supermarket, DIY shop and department store each week Shock

Though I don't think I'll ever get over walking into the bathroom in a shared house to see my housemate cleaning the toilet brush in the sink Hmm

Hatespiders · 29/11/2014 21:43

Hate hate hate the bloody things. Have never ever owned one and I'm seventy. Years ago the teachers in our staffroom had a huge row about loo brushes, and we dissenters were in the minority and got howled down, so I'm glad to see I'm not alone after all.
We clean a holiday barn and the proprietor has put one of these horrors in every loo (five in all) I boak every time I do the bathrooms and never touch the TBs. They sit festering in their shit-pots. I half expect one day to go in the barn and find the germs are causing them to run about by themselves. YUK.

UngratefulMoo · 29/11/2014 21:48

I have a loo brush in each loo (I don't live in a council flat, as suggested by PPs). I use them to scrub off any debris, then rinse them in the flush and then I clean the loo with bleach. I also clean the brush 'bowl' with anti-bacterial wipes and poor some bleach onto the brush when I put it away. I don't really see this as any worse than sticking your hand down the bog. Clearly I am in a minority.

trixymalixy · 29/11/2014 21:52

They're vile. DH insists on having them, but I can't bear them. Particularly when one of the kids knocks it over and all the vile liquid at the bottom spill everywhere. Bleurgh.

Janethegirl · 29/11/2014 21:55

Loo brushes are filthy things. No way will I have one.
If you have a crap, you wipe your arse and then if there are skid marks you wipe them too. Easily done when fresh Grin

slithytove · 29/11/2014 21:56

I replace our toilet brushes a lot. 90p from ikea.
They are sat in bleach. Binned after a big bathroom clean.

I don't make skids so mine is often not used. Can't say the same for DH's.

Janethegirl · 29/11/2014 22:05

Yes, it seems skid marks are generally due to malesSmile

2old2beamum · 29/11/2014 22:12

hatespiders glad I am not the only oldie here.

Re toilet brushes have never had one since catching my Downs daughter brushing her hair with it!!! Like others its fresh crap wipe it off and wash hands.

LiegeAndLief · 29/11/2014 22:23

I have a degree in microbiology and a toilet brush

CatLady25 · 29/11/2014 22:27

If you use those toilet tablets you put in the top of the toilet you dont even need a brush

Janethegirl · 29/11/2014 22:30

Depends on your menfolk catlady Grin

TattyDevine · 29/11/2014 22:31

Ooh I remember this thread from the original

SparklyReindeerShit · 29/11/2014 22:34

My local m&s have loo brushes in their customer toilets.

Catsize · 29/11/2014 23:02

Dear Bleachers,

Are you not just bleaching the poo stuck there, rather than getting it off?

Just wonderin'.
