FGS!!! Come and tell DH that toilet brushes are DISGUSTING

I know that we've had this toilet brush conversation numerous times....but, Please come and let DH know that I am not being unreasonable to have put our toilet brush in the outside shed.

The sight of toilet brushes makes me feel sick. I bought those clip on flushable toilet brush thingys which I think is the more hygenic and pleasant approach to getting rid of the shit as it were Grin DH claims that everyone he knows owns/uses toilet brushes Hmm

Namechanged for this as I don't want DH (yes you) to know my regular name. Go easy on him as the argument has come up while he's making himself useful cleaning the bathroom, so it's not all craziness from him.

The whole thing's weird. Just weird.

OutrageousFlavourLikeFreesias · 06/09/2010 08:19

chocolatefroggie, I'll see you and raise! I once caught my ex putting the toilet brush in the dishwasher. It wasn't even in their on its own - he put it in with the pots and the pans and the cups and the plates and the everything.

And when I challenged him on this, he said, "Well, how else am I supposed to get it clean?" He also expressed the opinion that my hygienic vice - letting the cats sleep on the bed - was much worse.

I honestly think he will go to his grave sincerely believing that this was normal behaviour.

The toilet-brush-in-dishwasher incident featured heavily in my divorce petition. My solicitor thought it was hilarious.

Bumperlicious · 06/09/2010 08:29

I'm with diddl on this, we have loo brushes but I have only recently started using them, and not very often. Nothing that a bit of loo roll won't fix, and sometimes I don't even wear gloves

S'just a bit of poo, then you wash your hands. What do people think is going to happen to them either way?

I honestly wouldn't judge anyone either way for having a loo brush or not.

However I did just get DH to buy some rim blocks, and I judge myself a little bit for that environmental hazard Blush

echt · 06/09/2010 08:36

Lavatory brush sits in a mixture of bleach and disinfectant.

Once a fortnight the liquid's flush away and the brush and holder put in scalding water for 30 mins.

What's dirty about that? And if anyone thinks the brush handle is, then how is the handle on any bathroom door guaranteed not to have shit on it? After all, I HOPE people wash their hands, but suspect that many do not.

All this horreur about lavatory brushes quite misses the point about where the filth really is.

epicfail · 06/09/2010 08:47

TBH I am more concerned with how many of you are pouring neat bleach willy nilly down your loos.
White vinegar does the same job and is environmentally friendly.

I have never seen such princess-like behaviour - and over toilet brushes of all things. And you have even managed to bring Class into it - only you poms could manage that.

Best laugh I have had in age.

diddl · 06/09/2010 08:49

I think that people who buy those weirdy plastic sticks with tissue are probably also those who would get drawn into buying that soap dispenser that you don´t have to touch.

I just don´t buy into the germs everywhere thing.

Kathyjelly · 06/09/2010 08:59

Toilet brushes in this house cost 99p from the pound shop and all get changed every two weeks. Combined with bleach, we have sparkling loos.

And after two weeks they go in the bin, not the shed!

YABU - are you for real? putting your bog brush in the shed? that really is bizarre! I use Bloo cistern blocks which mean that you hardly ever have the need to use the brush to be honest - when I do use the brush, I just give it a flush and occasionally rinse it through with hot water and disinfectant - it doesnt have bits on it and it isn't disgusting. I have had the same loo brush for 5 years and the brush and my bog are both nice and clean.

onebadbaby · 06/09/2010 09:38

There are some odd people on here- the toilet brush is to clean the stains from the loo- surely you only touch it when you clean the germy toilet- you don't have to brush your teeth with it- the germs arn't going to crawl out and infect the whole house.

Shock Kathyjelly

thekidsmom · 06/09/2010 09:40

Well this is an eye opener - I didnt know there was an alternative to a loo brush!

Each of our loos has its own brush in there. Now all I have to do is persuade anyone living in the house that it is up to them to use it if needs be, and not leave it to me to notice, and life will be grand

RussAbbotDancer · 06/09/2010 09:41

We have a toilet brush.

Perspective, please: it's a toilet, not a surgical scalpel. And, as aviatrix points out, marine and river life really is more important.

Please don't tell me you do that to your toilet then coo over Coast on telly.

massivemammaries · 06/09/2010 09:44

Personally I think that the sort of person who is worried about their toilet brush to the extent that they have to hide it in the shed is probably above micro-organisms in any case and so will not have any germs in their faeces Grin

diddl · 06/09/2010 09:53

Well if people in the household clean their own poo away with toilet paper-and those too young tell someone else about it before it sets hard, then a toilet brush is not really needed-but is there for people who don´t want to clean with tpaper.

dingdongmrs · 06/09/2010 10:06

we have a toilet brush, it is washed and bleached everytime it has been used so it stays clean! its still lovely and white and very pretty say there in my bathroom! they dont have to get dirty if you clean them regulary.

epicfail · 06/09/2010 10:17

Ive banned bleach in this house, its use contributed to the demise of our septic tank system which we now have to replace at a cost of $13000 AUD.

Give me the toilet brush any day, thanks.

diddl what on earth do you mean - 'clean their poo away with toilet paper?' What about the skiddies in the actual bowl - underwater??

Clearly my family are not eating enough vegies as there are many times the brush is called for here!

singersgirl · 06/09/2010 10:24

I keep coming back to this thread to shake my head and marvel at the neuroses displayed on here. It's like the spider threads. CBT is a good starting point for out of control and irrational phobias.

So what if the toilet brush is a bit dirty? It's for cleaning limescale and crap off the toilet bowl. I don't scrub the dishes with it or brush my hair with it.

wcgrime · 06/09/2010 10:33

You wouldn't catch me putting my hand down the loo to clean it with paper everytime- yuck- give me the brush!!!

singersgirl · 06/09/2010 10:34

Tee hee Wink. I probably need it for fear of uncooked chicken...

belgo · 06/09/2010 10:36

Hi I'm belgo and I'm the owner of two toilet brushes
and a very strong immune system Smile

No bleach here.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 06/09/2010 10:50

We do what echt does. Anything else is madness.

We don't use a huge amount of bleach though - there's just no need. But we do use a bit, which I accept in pretty crap for marine life (although surely not as bad as the obsessives).

I like that advert for Dettol (I think) where the voiceover attempts to terrify us with the information that a baby's highchair tray harbours more germs than a toilet bowl. Always makes me think that the average loo must be pretty clean then, so why bother with the Toilet Duck and all that crap Grin
