Bloody dogs and their stupid selfish owners.

We live in Dorset, and I don't really care too much if this thread is identifying.

Ds is really into nature and is very good at spotting newts, grass snakes etc.

We went to Thorncombe Woods the other day, where there is a lovely pond with tons of wild swamp life. It's always quite busy up there, loads of dog shit as soon as you come out of the car park, but it's really lovely once you walk on a bit.

Anyway, DS all excited about planned nature observation. but YET again, it's ruined because of bloody great dogs splashing about in the pool, and then shaking themselves over me and my kids, whilst their stupid owners sit and stare at them.

Grrrr

And there are numerous signs asking dog owners to keep their beasts on leads.

What's your question?

pinkthechaffinch · 03/09/2010 18:43

Oh I haven't one, twas just a rant, although if anyone has any ideas on how to scare the dogs/ owners away I'd be grateful

You might wish to take it to the Pets section then - this is AIBU.

pinkthechaffinch · 03/09/2010 19:25

Bet all the nature that your ds is spotting is curently posting on newtsnet.

"I hate children and their irresponsible owners!! They are spoiling my living environment by tramping over my territory/poking at me with sticks. Any ideas on how to scare them and their owners away greatly appreciated!"

Ah yeah, I crack myself up sometimes Grin

Sorry, feeling very sarcastic this evening. Tired and irritable. And I love dogs. Sorry.

HowAnnoying · 03/09/2010 19:39

life's tough init?

justanuthermanicmumsday · 03/09/2010 19:57

i think they need more laws regarding dogs. Not just anyone should be allowed to keep a dog, especially dogs that are considered more dangerous.

Also every large park should have a designated gated off area for dogs to run around in, away from the walking area and play areas that people without dogs use. That way everyone is happy and safe.

I don't own any pets because i haven't got the time to clean the mess, the mess my family make is enough for me. But what i worry about is poo, dog poo in particular. I have heard of a case where a child fell into dog poo, somewhere in the uk recently, that child may have eye sight problems now. There are many other diseases linked with dog poo.

I also worry about dog owners who unleash large dogs in parks where kids are also playing. What with all the cases of children being mauled by dogs unprovoked it does instil this fear in parents. I know my son is the curious type, i need him on a leash to keep him away from dogs, he doesn't seem to care how big they are he wants to pat them. But i don't know how well the owner has trained them, i can't just let him run to any dog. But if owners let their dogs roam freely in parks used by kids and non dog owners that is a problem, they also need to take some responsiblity. I'll try and hold my kid back, dog owners should do the same.

It's all very well saying it's a few irresponsible dog owners. But is that really true, when dog poo is easily associated with the most UK streets, apart from the very affluent areas? Dog patrols should be mandatory regardless of social class, upper middle or working class areas should all be monitored. Surely the council have a vested interest here, they could be making as much money, as they do handing out traffic tickets, and be doing the public a good service too?

Pink - YANBU!!

There's definately some strange 'trance' like phenomenon that comes over some dog owners - they just sit and stare. Confused

How about you snap your fingers right infront of their eyes next time, might bring them out of it.

pinkthechaffinch · 03/09/2010 20:08

The area is one I've been visiting since childhood and I honestly think dog owners are more inconsiderate than they were in my young days.

It's not a massive problem, no, but it irritates me in the same way that a crumb in the sheets would.

curlymama · 03/09/2010 20:09

Umm, so dogs are allowed in this park yes?

So what's your problem? Do you think they shouldn't be allowed in the water at all? If so, that's very mean of you. It's a park, not the local leisure centre.

If the park requires them to be on leads, then they should be, but I don't see how that's going to stop them getting wet, that's what extendible leads are for!

usualsuspect · 03/09/2010 20:10

Is there more dog hate on MN at the minute, or is it always this bad

pinkthechaffinch · 03/09/2010 20:11

Animation Grin I did say very loudly in my best teacher voice 'I hope they're going to put a lead on that dog - and they did leave shortly afterwards.

but doesn't make for a relaxing family time does it.

usualsuspect - mumsnet often has these sorts of threads although we do seem to have had more dog hating ones of recent than usual.

curlymama · 03/09/2010 20:12

It does for the family that own the dog.

pinkthechaffinch · 03/09/2010 20:13

I don't think they should be allowed in the water, no.

It's a nature reserve, a very small pond with benches around it -it's intended for people to view the dragon flies, snakes, frogs etc.

If the dogs want to run etc there's a massive pine forest half a mile away where they wouldn't disturb anyone.

They sell some lovely towels...

superchick · 03/09/2010 20:23

I hate dogs. No specific reason, they just annoy the crap out of me. Child mauling, smelly, dribbling, shitting beasts that some odd people seem unhealthily attatched to. My main gripe is when they invade your personal space: I don't sniff your groin so why should I put up with your dog sniffing mine? I could go on but should go and lie down and get over it really.

pink if I'm in a situation like that I struggle to maintain my composure.

I know IABU before you all start.

curlymama · 03/09/2010 20:24

At the nature reserve near us people take their dogs there especially because of the water. It's fun for them and good excercise. And as dogs share our planet, they have every right to go in water if the park allows it. I would bet that if dogs were'nt allowed far less people would use the park, and that would be a shame.

inveteratenamechanger · 03/09/2010 20:26

YANBU.

Also agree about having dog areas in parks and the rest dog free. DD has been knocked down by a dog in our local park, and I have been bitten. And don't get me started on the poo.

pinkthechaffinch · 03/09/2010 20:27

Oh ok, Valhalla, so you think I should come prepared for dog owners to allow their beast to shake themselves and their filth all over me and my dcs?

If that's so, then that is exactly the kind of attitude that is so annoying.
