to think that pre cut veg is lazy

I don't intend to discuss the merits of pre-cut fruits here . I think we all have better things to do than chop up a mango.

But, ready sliced mushrooms? Why?

And ready topped and tailed runner beans?

And chopped onions. yes I can see the point re crying etc, however they come in such uniform little dice that i think they are quite freaky. I used them once and they were horrible, and all dry so didn't caremisle properly.

But why not??

PosieParker · 01/09/2010 16:48

[SHOCK] Not pre cut veg!!!

scaryteacher · 01/09/2010 16:49

Have just bought bag of pre cut veg for mussels - fab!

lifeas3plus1 · 01/09/2010 16:49

Yes it is lazy but perfect when your trying to cook healthy food for a toddler whilst juggling a newborn Grin

Imisssleeping · 01/09/2010 16:50

Why chop veg yourself when someone else has already done it for you?
Why wash your dishes in the sink, when you have a machine to do it for you?

Asdashopper · 01/09/2010 16:50

Nothing wrong with lazy

bamboobutton · 01/09/2010 16:51

pre cut veg is my idea of cooking heaven at the mo.

with a toddler hanging off my arm and a new baby it can take me 10 mins to chop one bloody carrot.

azazello · 01/09/2010 16:51

Frozen pre-cut veg can be a brilliant idea - it stops loads of food going to waste because it doesn't have to be thrown away if not eaten quickly.

Also, it might mean that people can cook properly where they have difficulty chopping so YABU.

Actually, if pre-cut veg gets more people cooking from scratch and not living on junk then brilliant.

poshwellies · 01/09/2010 16:51

I don't buy them

think they are ideal for people with disabilities who find chopping or holding knives painful ie rhuemtoid arthritis or say someone with limited sight.

Fair do's if you buy them because you can't be arsed chopping or peeling.

Personal choice and all that.

moomiemoo · 01/09/2010 16:51

Yes it's lazy. So what??

deaddei · 01/09/2010 16:53

Always buy pre cut beans.
So shoot me Smile

AbsofCroissant · 01/09/2010 16:53

YANBU, it is lazy, but sometimes you just can't be arsed. There are limits to my laziness though - no precut onions. And erm, that's it. I do love the precut butternut squash as those feckers are a PAIN to cut up, and it saves a lot of swearing hassle.

Lulumaam · 01/09/2010 16:54

Sad you are judging me aren't you ?

this is a thread about a thread about a thread about one comment I may or may not have made on a thread about grated cheese, isn't it?

AbsofCroissant · 01/09/2010 16:55

And while i'm here - yes to precut fruit. I'm hardly going to start chopping up freaking watermelons at work now, am I?

ShowOfHands · 01/09/2010 16:55

My Grandma buys it because she has rheumatoid arthritis and can't manage chopping. So it has its uses.

But aren't we all lazy? I do lots of things because it makes my life easier. Like co-sleeping for example. I care not.

I don't eat pre cut veg though as it tastes like shavings from the devil's arse.

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/09/2010 16:55

yes I see the point with some pre cut veg, such as swede and those bags of chopped up carrots.

But mushrooms? They take seconds to chop up. Just seems mad to buy them ready chopped.

Plus all ready chopped veg seems really dry.

Yep, agree, nowt wrong with laziness.

ShowOfHands · 01/09/2010 16:55

I once heard of a woman who spent £8 on pre-cut fruit. Madness I tells ya.

Sassybeast · 01/09/2010 16:56

As long as it's M&S pre cut veg I don't see the problem ? As long as people with healthy start vouchers aren't allowed to buy them.

yunno - I think that M&S thread affected me more than i've dared to admit to myself Sad

gagamama · 01/09/2010 16:57

There are lazier things, like ready meals or even take aways. Why does it matter? If you are happy to pay a bit more money to save a little time, good for you.

Although my mind always boggles at things like laundry detergent liquitabs etc - about 30% more money and save you... what... 15 seconds to open the drawer, pour out some liquid into the lid, and then put it in the machine? How is that hard?!

TrillianAstra · 01/09/2010 16:57

All the nice thin green beans get taken away to go in the poncey little packs of pre-topped-and-tailed ones. If you buy then intact you're left with the fat ones. I demand thin beans!

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/09/2010 16:58

yes Lulu - you are on my spreadsheet for yoru comment re ready grated cheese circa 2008 and I have waited since then to set my passive aggressive trap Grin

Yes I am a lazy arse as well - I very rarely make my own mash (I mean peeling and chopping and boiling and then mashing - all those damn jobs) and buy the ready made mashed from the chiller cabinet. But then making mash takes blardy ages, and chopping mushrooms takes seconds. Oh I don't know what point I am making ...

OP posts:
AMumInScotland · 01/09/2010 16:59

Yes it's lazy. But so is buying any ready-made food if you want to get arsey about it.

People can bake their own bread too, but most find it more convenient to buy it already made for them.

I also buy meat which has been prepared and chopped into convenient portions, instead of plucking and gutting chickens.

poshwellies · 01/09/2010 17:00

Someone who buys instant mash cannot judge people buying chopped and prepared vegetables surely? Grin

Firawla · 01/09/2010 17:00

lazy, but convenient. i wouldn't have a problem with it. if people want to buy it then so what really?

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/09/2010 17:01

For some reason, though, I buy those 4 pack of heinx beans which come in microwavable pots (which cost £2 or something) rather than buying a couple of tins of beans for a quid, and then using microwavable bowls.

Lazy fecker I am.

And SOH I also co-slept with dd for years, not because of any sound reason other than I was too damn lazy to get up and put her in her own cot.
