to get really pissed off when people lie on here?

I know lying is wrong anyway. But it's almost insulting to lie on here when, if necessary, people can see that you've lied as your words are stored forever! If you're going to lie, at least lie well Grin.

What bugs me is when people lie to get sympathy or admiration for something that is directly contradicted by something else they wrote and they can't possibly both be true.

And then everyone piles in and goes 'oh, poor you' and you know it's bullshit and you can't say 'yeah, but they're lying' because nobody will believe that you have a photographic memory and will think you're stalking the poster and also everyone will think you're being a bitch.

I think IABU. Oh well. I'll get over it.

Grated cheese goes mouldy quicker than normal cheese I've found, more surface area.

Oh, that's not the point of this thread?

Funnily enough I have no idea who the OP is referring too either but I have a terrible memory for what happens on here and who says what.

It is annoying when people are lying specifically for getting sympathy, but I wonder if perhaps there is a context behind some of the things that it is easy to miss when you don't know the whole story.

I agree with MorrisZapp though (see, I remembered something!) about it being quite boosting to be cheerled or sympathised with, it can be addictive, especially when you feel you aren't getting the same in RL.

laydeecornyofsilke · 01/09/2010 17:11

I lied when I said that I came 3rd in big brother. And dh didn't really have a fight with a member of tight fit. Sorry. (or am I?)

StealthPolarBear · 01/09/2010 17:19

As well as this there are the posters that seem normal enough and then make a completely out of the blue nasty comment out of nowhere. There's one in particular I'm thinking of, posted on loads of bland, boring threads and then went onto a miscarriage thread with something amazingly nasty.

sobloodystupid · 01/09/2010 17:24

haven't read the whole thread as am fantastically busy choosing between which publisher I will allow the honour of handling my first novel, six figure sums have been discussed...
Any hoo, I read that Bonsoir had a BMI of 18.6 so I toyed with the idea of saying that mine was 18.3.
But I have deliberately "lied" about non important but identifying details (see above)Grin. It doesn't matter really does it? I have three children, live in Ireland am in my mid twenties, ok, ok my mid thirties

StealthPolarBear · 01/09/2010 17:37

The OP is not talking about that sort of thing, she means this:

Thread 1 Finance: "we were very well off in the 80s and did really well under Thatcher's rule. It's a shame she isn't PM now"

Thread 2 Politics: "Thatcher? Burn the WITCH!"

No personal details involved, just opinions

Oblomov · 01/09/2010 17:39

am back home now. sorry at bad post earlier. am struggling with lots of things currently.have picked up from the hospital tablets for dh's food posioning. we told them that he had campylobacter, on sat am, but they said no, and dismissed him from a&e with some diahorrea tablets. we kept phoning and phoning for the stool sample tests, but they hadn't been done. now they have. food poisoning it, is, like we originally said.
he's had diaharea for more thna 3 weeks now. has a colonposcopy booked (privately) for tomorrow. is so weak and has lost 1.5 stone.
so am i pissed when i see a bit of lying on MN? not really.
that kids of negligence at hospitals makes me pissed.
lets get soem perspective.

StealthPolarBear · 01/09/2010 17:41

:(

ChippingIn · 01/09/2010 18:18

Oblomov - I hope he gets better soon. My friend has just been through this, he had diahorrea for 6 weeks and lost 2.5 stone by the time they saw him he was getting better and they said it was 'a virus' Hmm how very helpful.

Are you still moving on Friday?
Did you get the house you wanted?

Oblomov · 01/09/2010 19:31

thanks chipping. no we are not moving. we have lived here for years and have no plans to move. think you've got me confused with someone else.

ChippingIn · 01/09/2010 19:36

Oblomov - sorry - I was convinced you were moving on Friday?? How odd??? Maybe I've been dreaming about MN threads again Grin - well, now that you aren't moving, that's one less hassle isn't it!! LOL

Snobear4000 · 01/09/2010 19:42

I'm lying right now.

Oblomov · 01/09/2010 19:50

ChippingIn - are you thinking of Orm? I always get those two, well not confused, but have to think to separate the two 'O' names in my mind :o

ChippingIn · 01/09/2010 20:22

Could be Confused

SPB - how's DD doing? Anymore standing on her own??

daisy5678 · 01/09/2010 20:26

I think it's sensible to 'lie' to cover personal details.

I think it's out-of-order to lie (and I do mean lie - there's no room for doubt in the examples I've noticed) purely to gain sympathy.

I won't name and shame cos that's shitty (though I guess it was probably shitty to start this too and I get that IABU) but it does really really annoy me. I don't think I'm being mean - I think the people in question are being meaner by lying - but I am clearly unreasonable for expecting people on the internet to be anything other than dishonest Grin - lesson learned, I guess. I suppose I am applying what I do to other people and I would feel Hmm about deliberately making something up (or adding untrue details) to get a reaction from people.

I will go away now and get that life!

Oblomov - hope things improve.

Well the screaming seems to have subsided a bit - hope whatever was bothering her has passed. She has done a tiny bit more standing but has also started talking Shock. Last night she was in her highchair and said "Want get down" - DH and I both heard! DS was quite slow to talk I am not used to this.]

You are so lovely, thank you for giving me a chance to witter on about DD :)

ChippingIn · 01/09/2010 20:32

want get down bloody hell!!! Did you both fall off your seats?? Grin

givemesleepandsomerevenge I agree with you, posting uttershite to get attention is a horrible thing to do, people take their time and share their experiences to help and if it's all just a story it's horrible. It's one thing to tweak a few details, quite another to make up complete lies.

StealthPolarBear · 01/09/2010 20:40

nearly :) DH has been a cynic but has been converted after that!

ChippingIn · 01/09/2010 20:43

Ha I can just see his face Shock... SPB hasn't been 'imagining' things.... fookin 'ell....

Bonkerz · 01/09/2010 20:45

Givemesleep. i too was Hmm about some comments recently!!!!!!!! i reckon we are yet again cut from the same cloth! Wink

daisy5678 · 01/09/2010 20:48

Bonkerz! Not 'seen' you for ages. How are things?

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 01/09/2010 20:49

just realised i have been talking about DD's amazing talking on a thread about MNers who lie :) Will have to take her round to someone I know in real life and get her to say it there too so I can be corroborated :o
How are thigns with you?

ChippingIn · 01/09/2010 20:51

LOL - yeah, I sometimes forget I'm not on a private board!!

I've had a bit of a tummy bug that's going around - other than that, things are much the same!
