the thread titles are all so serious and worthy and make me feel frivolous and unsisterly.

I was a Liberal feminist on Lenin's one

Catitainahatita · 30/08/2010 20:41

Apparently I am a housewife.... I'm not sure that pleases me at all, I think it just more a reflexion of my jaded rejection of socialism (it's the sour grapes of a former true believer,....)

wukter · 30/08/2010 20:49

I was Radfem on Lenin's one.

Appletrees - you need to go to the 'Customise' beside 'Talk' at the top of the page, you can re-find your hidden topics there..

Liberal Extremist according to the quiz Hmm

I read this thread with interest as I enjoy feminist discussion on various other websites, particularly re women in media. I've only been on MN a few months and discovered the feminist board, dipped my toes in and found it a very narrow, serious, unfriendly environment tbh.

I posted my views, with personal examples and questions for other posters, and was met with vitriol and was accused of derailing and trolling, so I'm laughing to read that many others have found it a similarly unwelcoming board!

However I take on board from this thread that many, many MNetters want to be part of a more easy-going and real-life discussion with a feminist slant, so I'm going to not hide the topic, and hope that lots of posters on this thread would like to join me over there :)

I would like to think that the regular posters there have probably glanced at this thread, maybe (hopefully) taken on board that many MNetters would like to post there but feel it's a hostile environment and might just make more of an effort to engage with all posters as equals, as people do on all other MN topics I've posted on.

helibepsinoph · 30/08/2010 23:44

Surely most Mnetters are more robust than to let a few comments by Dittany put you off. Because that's who you are talking about, right?Don't be coy....

Argue back if you disagree. I see that happening all over this place on other subjects. Why not on there? What are you scared of?

One of them there lurkers that message board posters always forget about.

I don't get it, though. What happened to conversation?

lilmissmummy · 31/08/2010 00:08

I like to read it, mainly because I will learn something but I am too much of a dunce to contribute! :)

I hide style and beauty as I have no interest.

Beachcomber · 31/08/2010 07:58

Snoozathon I remember you from the rape within marriage support thread about a specific poster. I lurked only on the thread so you won't 'know' me from it.

I do remember things getting heated but I don't remember any accusations of trolling on that thread. The thread was difficult because it became a support thread for a specific poster after she had been treated abominably on another thread. There were some posters who wanted to have a more general discussion about boundaries and so on - it was suggested that a rape support thread was not the time or the place to do that (insensitive to the poster we were trying to support) and that people who wanted to have a hypothetical discussion started an appropriate thread to do that on.

There were also some heated words on that thread because some posters were suggesting that what had happened to the poster in question was not rape when it most undeniably was. It was hardly surprising that these posters were challenged considering that the thread had been started as a haven from another thread (which had been pulled) on which very similar comments had been made about questioning the rape.

Is that the thread you mean or were you just accused of outright trolling on another thread in the feminist section?

But TSH you cut and paste from a MRA (Male Rights Activist) website that is packed to the seams with misogynistic statements and comments. That's why dittany says you are an MRA. Perhaps if you don't like the label you should stop quoting their websites?

MRAs are antifeminist generally - they quite clearly state how much they hate feminists (which is why it is kinda inflammatory to cut and paste from their websites on a feminist section mainly used by women).

Dittany takes no prisoners and certainly is frank and robust. But why shouldn't she be - she has clear well informed views and she expresses them.
