Fucking,bastard,enormous spiders

More wwyd....i'm still shaking... and i know what i just did was HUGELY unreasonable...but i panicked...just getting ready for bed and the biggest bastard i ever saw was in between my bedside table and the wall,please do not think i am exagerating when i say it's body was the size of a two pence and legs about two inches,usually i hoover them but couldn't get to this one so.......omg i'm such a bitch...i sprayed it with furniture polish...it ran towards my bed and i did it again until it was(i hope)dead,it's still under there and i don't know what to do..DP asleep on sofa,will not be impressed at having to crawl around to find out if it's dead or not..

Wish I was there to help. Spiders are no problem, I pick them up and put them outside.

Ask me to have a blood test however, and I'd be screaming for you to help me.

And suggest that I get on a boat and you'll find me sobbing in a corner.

The spider is doubtless dead now and can't come near you. Unpleasant, but it can wait til morning if you can't face it, and then you can get DH to remove it.

You did the right thing except next time use hairspray (Elnett is very good) It sticks their stupid spider legs together so they can't run off.

They've got a flaming cheek if you ask me.

that's not that big really - I've got an absolute monster living in my outside wall. I used to be terrified of spiders but I love them now.

I never kill spiders despite being quite phobic - I do move out of a room for several days after a visit though!

However, after 3 years of many of the type you describe migrating through my house each spring and autumn I have now invested in some serious kill spray - I haven't used it yet and i am not sure if I will be able to bring myself to as I am quite pathetic about the right of a creature to live even if I am scared of it!

Anyway, WWID? Sleep on the sofa for a couple of nights

Sorry to be so harsh, but I support spiders. As I tell DS, spiders eat flies, and flies are horrid because Flies Eat Poo

(Lovely to hear and see a 2-year old taking Flies Eat Poo as such an important pronouncement)

Am still getting my breath back,normally i get DP to throw them out of the window but this was too much and it was really brown and i started thinking 'what if it's one of those brown widows that have been in the local paper'.......methinks a proper clean in bedroom may be a good idea....v.dusty under bed etc

I have only ever killed a couple thats because they really were to big to be caught.

otherwise i do scoop them into a glass and put them outside

Yep, we're coming into spider season now when all the house spiders are out braving it in order to try and mate or whatever the heck they do to procreate!

Lasts for 2 or 3 weeks i think, about this time of the year.

I dread it every year, it's the shock of them unexpectedly running out in front of me that I don't like.

eek my dd rang me the other day at 2,40am crying to tell me a spider was in her bath,she does not like them since some boys threw a tub of spiders over her wen she was about 7

And i agree with you all,don't mind smaller ones but this was a freak,how can i not have seen it earlier,have never let DC's be phobic,spiders eat flies,i've done all that

They really affect me like you op. I can't settle after i've seen one cos i feel like there will be loads of them everywhere once i've seen one.

Then I get moments when I think 'really, what's the worst that can happen if there's a spider in my room?' Wish I could think like that when i see them tho'.

Does anyone else actually wake up when one is out and about in the room? I do and I have always wondered if this was a unique trick!

I always wake up with a big jump knowing there is a spider in the room - and there always is! Of course I have no idea if I wake up every time but I have noticed it always seems to be big spiders when I wake up!

Did anyone else ever rent a sunbed in the 80's/90's? They seem to be attracted to the light.I would feel an itch on my tummy and there would be a monster spider sat there enjoying the rays.

bella - that's prob because its just run over you

yy time of year we have had about 4 in the last few weeks.when you take them out take them a long way away otherwise they come back in again.

Haha - thanks Sharbie!! So far I have never met a spider up close and personal, they are always on the walls away from me etc - I am not sure I would actually survive something like MRB describes - the thought is enough to make me feel sick.

On the territory thing I did once take out a very strangly marked spider, to the end of our very long garden (about 50 mtrs) only to find it climbing back over the back doorstep about 15 minutes later! It was one of the funniest things I have ever seen, like the little guy had just thought "hurumph, you are not messing with me!!" and marched back home! It was one of those incidences that gave me some level of respect for them - they are quite fascinating really!

awww i like spiders, i really want to get a pet taranchula at some point as for the dead one - and it will be dead by now - just leave it until morning if you can't face looking for it and get your DH to look for it then.

Vallhala: Don't get me started on blood tests. last time i had to have one it took them several tries (in both arms ) to find a vein. I'm not normally bothered by blood but i had to turn away and shut my eyes there!
