Hate the buggers!! I swear they giggle and caper around me - and I am definitely going to spider-infested hell because I kill 'em. I don't really want to but I am realy quite phobic.
One night there was a huge m...erf...er spider on the wall in the hall. I was in alone (DD, DS and DH out working). This thing fell off the wall with an audible thump then ran laughing (I swear!!) into DD's room by pushing the door open. I could not move (literally) and was pinned to my chair in the living room on "watch duty".
The family got back and laughed merrily at me and my foibles (even went so far as to say I had imagined it!!). UNTIL my DD went into her room to investigate and found the massive bugger lurking behind her chest-of-drawers. Ha!! then they took me seriously and an evacuation mission was mounted.

Poor little bugger. Honestly, get over yourself and leave the poor thing alone.

What a horrible way to die. Sad

Heracles, I thought for a moment you were telling us to get over ourselves, for getting sentimental about this spider!

They are SO huge this year - I have a tall wide plastic beaker for scooping spiders (the diametre is bigger than the palm of my hand)

Last spider I caught, its legs were poking out the sides Shock

poodle sized i say.

My friends dh caught one in paper towel and squished it - its inside goo catapulted itself into his mouth
eeewwwwww!!!!!

Actually i could cry when i see one thats how terrified of them i am. There was once a big one on the stairs and DH wouldnt get it, i had to smack it with a shoe and it kept running and i had to keep trying to hit - i was crying whilst doing it. i cant stand them, they make me feel sick.

I rather like spiders, but always get DP to catch the big beasties.

Took me a bit to get over a phobia from childhood though, caused mostly by a big fecker that used to live in our bathroom - whenever we had a bath it would abseil down and sit at the tap end and wink at us. Pervy blighter!

im sorry but i have to admit that i kill every dam spider that comes into my house ( that has the cheek to let its presence be known)
I can't stand them, had a terrifying incident as a child, and could never get close enough to kill them until i lived alone and no one could help me.
I just kill ( got my techniques down like a pro ) as soon as possible because i can not sleep, relax knowing there is one here.
But i still get itchy arm pits as soon as i see one, and the adrenaline rush means im up half the night aswell.

thats made me feel geuninely ill purpleduck.

I feel horrible because I'm a vegetarian and very animal rights orientated, but I kill the fuckers. They scare the shit out of me, and I think I feel like it's me or them,. And I pay rent so...

I wish I could get DH to take them outside humanely but he is shit scared of them too.

We had one crawl in to his "man" room yesterday where we had a bin bag full of those little styraphone nuggets... he went underneath and he was HUGE PROPER FUCKIN HUGE all i could think was if i move the bag.. He'll run under dh's piles of junk and we'll never see it again. So I started punching it through the bag. Blush like a total nutter.

I used to be like this, then went to the Friendly Spider Programme at London Zoo. After talks about phobias and about spiders, then some hypnotherapy, we went to the bugs house to look at spiders. By the end, I'd had house spiders running over my hands and had held a lovely tarantula called Polly.

I still don't like spiders but I can honestly say I am no longer scared of them. It has transformed my life.

a few months ago we had a period where there was a massive one on the landing every single day. i couldnt cope, i was becoming a nervous wreck. for some reason this house is prone to huge spiders!! wish id known when i bought it!

we bought one of those spider scarer things that goes in the plug socket. we still get little tiny ones but no monsters. my dp unplugged it a couple of weeks ago and forgot to put it back in. i went into the bathroom a few days later and there was a massive one in the bath. i checked to see if the scarer was plugged in on the verge of making a very ranty call to the company and found it was unplugged :), at least we know it works :o

All spiders must die. They are evil and wrong.

Report
Bellasformerfriend · 28/08/2010 17:59

foxtrottango, where did you get your scarer from? I need a solution as I don't think i can bring myself to kill them but I am getting to the point of having panic attacks before bed because I am so scared one will be in my room - and I don't pick things up off the floor at this time of year, i poke them with a coat hanger and palpitations Sad It really is only the big ones out now that bother me, I can catch and remove anything up to about 2 or 3 inch across - as long as they don't surprise me of course!

Its mating season. The big ones are males and they are seeking mates.(I think)...we get one, 10 o clock every night scuttling across the living room. Not the same one as we kill them. Icky things...

i got mine from amazon. we checked loads out but some had such poor reviews and were quite expensive. we eventually plumped for this one
www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000FII400/ref=oss_product?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21
it has been absolutely excellent in our house. we have a small house so just plugged it in on the landing to get the best coverage as most of our monsters were upstairs (they seem to come out of the loft bleurgh!) the only ones i have seen while its plugged in are less than an inch across, let alone 2 or 3 :o

it was so worth the money, i am a wreck when it comes to them and hate being so frightened in my own home and not able to walk around confidently!

rubbersoul, i vetted the link thoroughly for you, there are no spider pics on the page :o

Oh it looks great fostrottango! Sadly we keep rats as pets though so it wouldn't work for us - mind you I think these are going to be the last lot of rats we get so maybe I could get one ready!! I am desperate to be rid of this feeling!
