I am referring to this; www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-11061296

and yes, I am totally aware that the police and government are to blame too but we expect governments and to an extent police, to be corrupt.

I am saying this as a RC too. I am fucking shocked at the amount of revolting crap that the church seem to get away with. Covering up paedophiles/abusers, bombers and who knows what else.

Why are they never made accountable?

Second best bit of the thread:

"I think it is realy cute the way daft punk takes sexual health advice from a 70 year old virgin with a history of hiding pedophiles. Bless."

daftpunk · 25/08/2010 12:00

One of my best mates on F/B is a 50 yr old lesbian from S.Afica...she's rocking my world atm...I also talk to a very well gay rights campaigner on F/B....so think what you like, I'm not homophobic, I'm catholic.

EddieIzzardismyhero · 25/08/2010 13:14

A very well gay rights campaigner? As opposed to a very sick one?

You are homophobic dp, dress it up whichever way you like. The fact that you tell us you have FB gay friends is irrelevant.

cupcakesandbunting · 25/08/2010 13:22

If you are a practising catholic and you take the scripture at it's very outdated face value, then you are, by default, a homophobic.

You oppose same sex marriage and you oppose "promotion" of same sex relationships*, whatever the fuck that means. You are a homophobe. You might not go around queer-bashing but the fact that you don't believe that gay couples have the same rights as straight couples makes you homophobic. Sorry if that makes you feel uncomfortable.

cupcakesandbunting · 25/08/2010 13:25

sorry meant to say

*promotion of same-sex relationships. Arf. Made me think of a flotilla of gays in full-on hotpants/tight vest attire sailing down the Thames, blaring out Erasure from a loudspeaker and shouting "we're here, we're queer..." Hmm

-; well known -...sorry.

he's in perfect health too thankfully.

abr1de · 25/08/2010 13:32

'Now this (sorry, abride) is something else that really, really, pisses me off. The church expecting the congregations to pay for the training of priests in child protection issues! Why on earth should decent lay Catholics pay for this?'

That's not quite what I meant, seeker. I donated to a fund that will provide money for the general training of priests. But I would be a little worried if it didn't include child protection. In the same way, some of my tax goes to pay for education, which includes training teachers and other staff in child protection. Frankly if the congregations don't pay, who else will? The church in England doesns't have that much money.

Again, I think it's important to differentiate between what happens in other catholic countries and here, in England (don't know much about Scotland so I'll not pretend to). As far as that dreadful and shameful episode in south (or was it central) America was concerned, in which that little girl was raped and impregnated, I just don't think the English bishops would behave like that. They know there would be a huge public outcry and that many of their congregation would not support them. This member certainly would not!

daftpunk · 25/08/2010 13:32

why has that come out black..?

cupcakesandbunting · 25/08/2010 13:34

'Now this (sorry, abride) is something else that really, really, pisses me off. The church expecting the congregations to pay for the training of priests in child protection issues!'

Simple, really. Don't rape/molest/abuse children in your care. I don't think that most of us actually need any training on that, but that's by-the-by...

Ladies whilst I appreciate that you are obviously enjoying having a good old bitch about the catholic church and all it's faults, I am originally from the village that was blown to bits in 1972 and all my family still live there.

So please try to remember that irrespective of the politics on both the part of the government and the church, 9 innocent people were killed and their families ripped apart.

I'm sure if any of them were to read this thread they would be delighted with your enthusiasm.......

daftpunk · 25/08/2010 13:58

EI;

You don't know anything about me, have you met me in RL? have you spent time talking and getting to know me?

I have made lots of gay friends on F/B, they know about my religious beliefs, and even though they are far more into gay rights than anyone I've come across on MN, they are extremely excepting of me. They respect my religion.

And my gay best friend tells me she loves talking to straight catholic women...

sanielle · 25/08/2010 14:01

I am confused by your post penguinsmummy,

It is one of the reasons we are all angry, that someone was allowed to get away with it.

EddieIzzardismyhero · 25/08/2010 14:05

I don't need to know you in RL to know you are homophobic, unless everything you say on here is made up?

Definition of homophobia.

sanielle · 25/08/2010 14:09

DP outside of catholicism the BNP are not known for being gay friendly. SO if you have no problem with homosexuality you should probably change religion and political parties.

chibi · 25/08/2010 14:09

**Simple, really. Don't rape/molest/abuse children in your care. I don't think that most of us actually need any training on that, but that's by-the-by...

i am a teacher, we get training on child protection issues too. it involves a bit more than 'don't molest children' - presumably you want this training cut too?

perhaps you are trying to be facetious but it is coming across as really crass

daftpunk · 25/08/2010 14:12

I have never said gay people shouldn't have equal rights, never. Catholics have issues with gay adoption, these issues are well known.

You are trying to force me, as a catholic to except things that are not in keeping with my faith.

Why are you doing that?

daftpunk · 25/08/2010 14:13

There are homosexuals in then BNP...quite a few actually.

daftpunk · 25/08/2010 14:14

sorry about all typos...work through them as best you can..

EddieIzzardismyhero · 25/08/2010 14:20

Is it not right that in the 21st century you should be questioning your faith and some of the antiquated crap that goes along with it?

Blind faith is quite frightening - "I believe this because someone else tells me to believe this".

This is my problem with religion and the reason I would never bring my DC up with a religious faith. I want them to question what they are told - and if they questioned the homophobia of most major religions they would realise what total nonsense it was and reject it completely.

Why don't you do the same?

Snobear4000 · 25/08/2010 14:21

I hope all those homosexuals in the BNP are white and can trace their ancestry back to some kind of imaginary pure British race. Otherwise they might find themselves deported when (ehem) the BNP win an election.

sanielle · 25/08/2010 14:23

If there are, they are more daft than you daft punk.

chibi · 25/08/2010 14:25

you are making some pretty big assumptions here

firstly that catholics and other religious people are operating out of blind faith, ie if the pope says i need to jump off a cliff i shout yes your holiness and am first in line to beachy head

doubtless some are, and this is their experience of religion and faith

it is not my experience - for me faith is not here is a list of stuff i subscribe to but amongst other things, rather a way of describing my relationship with the divine

because i see it as a relationship it is a dynamic thing, open to questioning, and i have and do question things

i suppose in the sense that a person can disagree with the decision to promote PFI and yet still be a member of the labour party

daftpunk · 25/08/2010 14:25

Because I don't want to reject everything I have been brought up to believe in, I don't want to live a life in the spiritual wilderness...a life of nothing.

I would never try & change you.

cupcakesandbunting · 25/08/2010 14:30

As someone pointed out earlier, DP, your religion dictates that you should observe many things. I sure as hell hope you don't open that bigoted gob of yours in church or brimstone and fire and a sound butt-kicking of Beelzebub await you Hmm

I love it when BNP supporters claim that they have blacks/asians/gays in their midsts. Every gay or black person that I know would shoot their own foot off before asociating themselves with that crowd of nazis.
