To think a 2yo with size 9 feet is madness?

I have seen on facebook today that one of my friends DS has size nine feet! My DS is 2 months older than hers and his are a 4.5, and seem in proportion. Is size 9 very normal for a 2 yo or does he have abnormally large feet? (I'm not being judgey but it just sounded too big to be true!)

YANBU- I am shocked and saddened. How could his mother have let such a thing happen?

People like that make me sick.

FranSanDisco · 23/08/2010 16:46

4.5 is really small!!! Grin Depends on the child's height etc - proportion innit.

NoahAndTheWhale · 23/08/2010 16:52

DS was in a size 5 at 16 months. He was probably size 9 when either 2 or 3. Is 6 now and about size 13.

nulgirl · 23/08/2010 16:52

My ds was a 4.5 at 9 months and is now a 7 at 21 months. Fully expect him to be a 9 when he is 2. The HV did comment when she first saw him as a newborn that he was the longest baby she had ever seen in her 30 year career. He doesn't seem freaky though just tall and in proportion

TheLadyEvenstar · 23/08/2010 16:53

DS1 was a size 12 before he turned 3 now at 12yrs old is an adult 8 1/2

DS2 is 3 next month and already in an 11 so is heading the same way.

asouthwoldmummy · 23/08/2010 16:56

Thanks all, I'm quite happy to admit that IABU!

Actually I don't think YABU to be shocked. But this because at 4.1 when ds started school he was a 9.5, a 10.5 at the beginning if year 1 and just turned 6 and been measured as an 11. I'm waiting as hoping to get an 11.5 shoe - when I buy them. (see my school shoes aibu!)

Its a fine line between shock and judgy and I suppose if your unsure how 'normal' something is then asking is the best way to find out Wink

BUT judging by the answers above its perfectly normal and our dc's have tiny feet Grin

BuckBuckMcFate · 23/08/2010 17:05

DS2 was a size 10 at 2.
DD was a size 4.5 at 2.

So we have had massive hobbit feet and little dinky ones here.

DS1, 13, has gone from a size 5 to a size 9 in 6 months!! Shock I still haven't bought his school shoes as I don't trust his feet not to BU and grow again as soon as I do!

dolphin13 · 23/08/2010 17:07

My 10 year old takes a size 7. His dad is 6.6 though

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 23/08/2010 17:09

I'm just pleased that having a small footed child so far has saved me money - each time I think she's bound to need new shoes by now, I'm told that there is still plenty of space in her current ones!

ratspeaker · 23/08/2010 17:11

BuckBuck has he done the shoot up and outgrow all trousers and shirts yet?
Both my sons ended up adult size 13 in their teens
Ever tried getting school shoes in a 13?

My dad was as size 8

mumbar · 23/08/2010 17:12

yes donotfeed I've been lucky that 1 pair of school shoes has done a year both years so far.

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 23/08/2010 17:16

Dolphin - my DD's dad is 6'5", so not impacted on her foot size! she's not particularly short though, just has a small base! DH doesn't have massive feet though, and neither do I, I'm a size 5/5.5 and 5'7"?

QueeferSutherland · 23/08/2010 17:16

My DS is 2yo with size 9 feet.
I think all my children have big feet tbh.
5mo DS cannot wear babygrows with toes.

DD's first shoes were size 5.
She was 10 months old. (Walking at 9 months.)

mizu · 23/08/2010 17:20

I can't wait to show this thread to my Mum as DD1 is 5 and has size 13 feet and Mum thinks this is HUGE.

mumbar · 23/08/2010 17:20

queefer ds walked at 10 months and had size 2.5 shoes!!!

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 23/08/2010 17:22

Formula feeding and weaning before 6 months (don't get me started on purees) causes large feet. Fact.

QOD · 23/08/2010 17:25

my neice is 8 and has baby size 9 feet

SpawnChorus · 23/08/2010 17:29

YANBU

It is utter MADNESS.

I think you're showing great restraint with your lack of judginess. We ALL know what we secretly think about parents whose kids' feet grow so large. It's disingenuous to claim otherwise.

Mrsdoasyouwouldbedoneby · 23/08/2010 17:31

It would surprising to me too. I am another small footer, whose children's feet rarely grow much! DD has bigger feet than ds at same age, but still she is a 7.5 at 4 (exactly). DS was a 10 in march time, and is now a 10.5. I haven't bothered changing his shoes yet because A) his other ones still fit him (so he says, and he is the first to tell me if they pinch), and B) having spent £30 on DD's shoes he can jolly well wait. (disclaimer... if he had grown enormously, or his other shoes hurt him I would have taken out the 2nd mortgage and bought him some).

So I don't think YABU, just naive.

Mrsdoasyouwouldbedoneby · 23/08/2010 17:33

Either genetics or grow bag.

I favour the grow bag.

Must be it cos I feed my two the same as everyone else and they are midges.

It has nothing to do with the fact that I am 5ft and dh is 5ft 5.

sheepgomeep · 23/08/2010 17:54

my dd2 is a size 9 and has just turned 3 But in comparison my dd1 had size 7 feet at her age but then there is a big height difference between thier dads, my ex is also a size 6 in shoes but my dp (dd2's dad) has size 11 feet!

Am just Shock at all your children's massive feet! DD1 a fairy-like size 8 at 4yrs3mo and DD2 (2y1m) coming up from behind at size 5 (almost). My 2 do fall over a lot though. Grin

lazylula · 23/08/2010 18:03

Ds2 is 2.2 years and is in a 7 and a half and growing fast. I would say that he will be in a 9 before he reaches 3. Ds1 is a 10 and a half at 4.9 years! It varies from child to child and I am sure one day ds2 will grow into his feet!!!
