dh just tweeted these vile t shirts (in ourtraged horror, not amusement)

www.jamrags.com/viewDetail.php?proid=79&color=Black

www.jamrags.com/viewDetail.php?proid=70&color=Navy

and yes, they're meant to be offensive. but as a humourless feminist and proud of it i think we should object. strongly.

but how!?

i suppose it says something that none of us have ever seen one in the street....

Spacehopper - funny to you perhaps, but not to me as my dad died of a heroin overdose.

Alouiseg · 17/08/2010 10:19

Tell you what, instead of getting upset about T-shirts can I just let you know that the Taleban have flogged and executed a pregnant widow.

Perspective please people.

TheCrackFox · 17/08/2010 10:20

They are quite clearly attention seekers so don't give them any attention. Ignore them.

Morloth · 17/08/2010 10:21

Small steps Alouiseg perhaps getting upset and voicing it at this level stops it getting to that level?

Just because someone somewhere else has it worse doesn't mean we have to accept that this is OK.

The Taleban suck more than these t-shirts but that doesn't make the t-shirts any more acceptable.

Alouiseg · 17/08/2010 10:24

After reading today's papers I just couldn't get upset about a t-shirt than some twat chooses to spend their money on.

Just be thankful we have freedom of choice.

StealthPolarBear · 17/08/2010 10:29

But there are always worse things.
Always
does that mean we can't be bothered about anything any more, or start a thread on it?

StealthPolarBear · 17/08/2010 10:29
EveWasFramed72 · 17/08/2010 10:30

Here is where you can send an email...maybe an email campaign would do something?

AbsOfCroissant · 17/08/2010 10:32

Hm.

They are offensive and disgusting, but that's what they're supposed to be and that's exactly the reaction the creators of these t shirts want. It's like a sibling poking the other one with a stick to get a reaction.

Ignore them, don't give them the air of publicity and be thankful that people who do hold these views and buy these tshirts are making themselves so obvious and recognisable. Imagine if they didn't and you ended up dating/marrying/being friends with someone who had such odious views.

gorionine · 17/08/2010 10:32

Alouiseq, this is really awfull and I cannot find word harsh enough to condemn it but I agree with others if we only get upset for the worst thing, we will end up not feeling for anything as there will always be a worse thing.

EveWasFramed72 · 17/08/2010 10:33

Alouiseg There isn't much we as a small group can do today for that pregnant woman being executed. However, we can ALL write an email, express our disgust, and get the word out that places are perpetuating racism and hatred TODAY, and likely get some result. It won't change what's happening in other countries immediately, but perhaps shutting down companies that incite violence WILL perpectuate change in the long run.

oops.. perpetuate

amelem · 17/08/2010 10:36

They would love it if you made a big fuss about it. The worst thing would be if someone you really liked started wearing one of these t-shirts!

AT1137 · 17/08/2010 10:42

Absolutely horrible. Agree with Morloth about making it easier for the rest of us to spot the idiots...if I saw someone wearing one of those t-shirts I would just want to punch them for high levels of ignorance!!!

shockers · 17/08/2010 10:56

I think what you have to be careful about, is giving them publicity. If rebel teens get wind of the fact that a group of Mums find them offensive...

BUT... in the words of Martin Luther King,

" Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter."

schoolpanic · 17/08/2010 11:51

i think it does matter.

it's about how society views women (and other races, religions etc). yes, there will always be offensive views out there but it's our right to tell them they're not on and that society, as a whole, does not find this funny.

would you accept someone wearing one of those t shirts on the desk next to you? or making comments along the same lines? of course not, you'd tell them it was offensive. freedom of speech gives them the right to spout but it gives the rest of us the right to tell them they're offensive.

we have to challenge this stuff. and all the other 'little' stuff. because it does matter. if t's ok to laugh at women or muslims cos they don't matter and no body cares about them or what they think or how they feel then women/muslims/whoever start to become 'other' and we know where that can lead.

I took my 2 children to pick my eldest son up from a local cricket festival which was mostly attended by families.
While we were waiting a guy walked by in a t-shirt that was bright and eye catching in a comic style font and said
'I eat pussy like a kid eats cake'`
I caught his eye and mouthed 'wanker' at him.

GetOrfMoiLand · 17/08/2010 11:55

What did pussywanker do, Pagwatch?

pagwatch · 17/08/2010 11:57

in fairness he did at least look a bit embarassed.

And as is the way with the types that wear those types of t-shirts, I doubt he has ever seen one let alone eaten one.

pigletmania · 17/08/2010 12:01

Disgusting, foul, represents everything foul about society. Those who wear them are the stereotypical nasty thugs who end up in prison time after time.

At least they know their target market. Their tagline is "Jamrags.com Cotton for cunts".

Ugh.
