... to get annoyed at DH for using a towel once....

... then throwing it in the wash? After all, when you use a towel you've just had a wash right? So you should be relatively clean.....

How many times do you use your towels before you wash them?

This is possibly a overly sore subject for me atm due to the recent birth of DS resulting in a HUGE increase of washing! I'm worried my machine is going to konk out! :-/

YANBU

I'm not going to say how long our towels go before getting wash because it's positively slovenly but you certainly don't need to wash them after one go!

I would not appreciate the extra washing either!

ballstoit · 17/08/2010 08:47

YANBU, even my hyper hygiene conscious mum doesnt wash the towel every time. If it's left to dry (not on the bedroom floor) then you can use it 3 or 4 times at least.

IMoveTheStars · 17/08/2010 08:47

All the tea towels/hand towels get shoved in whenever I do a wash, but the big towels only get done once a week.

YANBU

mousymouse · 17/08/2010 08:51

yanbu at all.
if he wants to continiue like this, maybe he should do the laundry :)

we change the towels about once a week, hand towels more often when needed. I dont have the space* to dry so many towels...

gingernutlover · 17/08/2010 08:53

our bath towels get done about once a month - obviously more often if the actually look dirty.

tea towels oven gloves, hand towels and flannels are washed more often, I just have a drawer full in the kitchen and swap them over when they get dirty.

gingernutlover · 17/08/2010 08:55

crikey - really should have read rest of thread cos now I sound very slovenly! To defend myself, we have heated towel rails so the towels never sit around wet and manky.

Jazmyn · 17/08/2010 08:57

Not at all ginger! I used to do mine around once a month and keep them on the radiator in the meantime!!

Must say, this post has relieved my worries I shall have to convince DH to read it!!!

mousymouse · 17/08/2010 09:06

we have something like this which keeps the towels tidy in between and they dry quickly.

mrz · 17/08/2010 09:07

Having just hung out 15! handtowels and 3 bath sheets I can say your DH is not alone

Deliaskis · 17/08/2010 09:08

Nothing interesting to say about towels except that this thread reminds me of one I saw years back on...ahem...another website, where one lady insisted that it was very unhygienic to use towels more than once as they had been used on...you know...yer 'bits' (her words) and was aghast that people ever used them more than once. She was quite rightly ribbed mercilessly.

Jazmyn · 17/08/2010 09:15

omg mrz is that willingly??? :-o

I must admit that recently I've been fishing them out of the washing basket, refolding them and pretending they're clean... I figure if he cant tell the difference it doesnt matter!!

bramblebooks · 17/08/2010 09:17

Wish mine even made it to the washing basket apart from under my steam! Mine get a hot wash when I've got enough to make a load.

BubbaAndBump · 17/08/2010 09:19

You're nicer than I am Jaz - rather than fishing things out of the wash basket nicely, refolding them and pretending they're clean, I chuck 'em across the bathroom floor in a fit of fury then leave them there, satisfied that I've done my bit for the envioronment Blush

Have to say though, my DH's towels would have to crawl on their own into the wash basket if they ever wanted washing - he's happy to put the DCs' clothes in after one non-messy wear, but his own clothes have to be ripped off him, kicking and screaming, before they make it to the wash (and I'm way past wanting to rip his clothes off him anymore :o )

Jazmyn · 17/08/2010 09:23

haahaha Bubba I know where you're coming from... seems a common trait of 99% of males, I seem to have ended up with one from the 1%, he mostly showers twice a day and never wears a t-shirt or any other item of clothing more than once! It has its benefits (no stinky feet or BO smothering cuddles!) but also many drawbacks (s**tloads of washing and no hot water in the mornings)!

ShatnersBassoon · 17/08/2010 09:29

My husband is the same. Uses a bath towel once and chucks it in the washing basket, I assume because it takes less effort than hanging it somewhere to dry and air.

I take them out too. I've got better things to do than launder clean towels.

purplefeet · 17/08/2010 09:33

At the hospital I work at, a doctor of infection (a very wealthy lady), was asked to give a talk to a group of teenage new mums on infections in babies. She told them that after they had bathed the baby and dried them with a towel to THROW THE TOWEL AWAY and use a BRAND NEW one each time!!

BubbaAndBump · 17/08/2010 09:35

I've also made him do the washing now :) Suddenly there are fewer clean DCs' clothes going in to the washbasket ~ though I do have to breathe deeply when I notice a washload that's been sitting in the machine, damp, for over a day Angry, or I have to try not to seethe when clothes are hung up very weirdly - my family is a crumpled mess these days - but at least it's all his job :o :o

orangehead · 17/08/2010 09:36

I think I am the only one on here that washes bath towels after ever use. My husband however puts his to dry and uses it a second time

mousymouse · 17/08/2010 09:44

omg - purple that is ridiculous.
I hope someone complained about this.

Jazmyn · 17/08/2010 09:48

indeed!!! talk about un-environmentally friendly!! :-/

OP posts:
ratspeaker · 17/08/2010 09:50

Looks like I'm in the minority.
I wash the bath towels after each use.

Using a towel used by my martial arts loving, sweaty family makes me shudder.
One thats been round my grown sons bits? eeew

It was easier when the kids were younger, they each had their own identifiable towel and a hook to hang it on.

Gibbon · 17/08/2010 09:50

I am a v frequent towel washer. I have a thing about it.

mrz · 17/08/2010 09:59

I have one of these in the bathroom it doesn't make any difference.
My 15 handtowels and 3 bath sheets were since I last washed on Saturday!

Bathsheba · 17/08/2010 10:29

I wash towels after every use I have to say. But then I don't complain about the amount of laundry.

ShrimpOnTheBarbie · 17/08/2010 10:35

The only person in our house who get a new towel each time is our baby. Everyone else needs to make do for a week. Even that is hard going on the laundry! We wash each day - how dirty can they be?
