... then throwing it in the wash? After all, when you use a towel you've just had a wash right? So you should be relatively clean.....

How many times do you use your towels before you wash them?

This is possibly a overly sore subject for me atm due to the recent birth of DS resulting in a HUGE increase of washing! I'm worried my machine is going to konk out! :-/

Ours get washed once a week on a Friday. We share towels but dp is away Monday to Friday so it's really just me and 16month old ds.

When dp gets home on a Friday he usually grabs a clean towel and dries and airs it on the garden fence after each use so not much washing to do here really!

Tea towels and facecloths get thrown in the wash Basket at the end of every day and new one's get put out. They all get washed then on a Sunday.

BubbaAndBump · 17/08/2010 17:16

Ahh lifeas that's where you're going wrong - towels must always be washed on Sundays and tea towels and facecloths should be done on a Friday. Shame on you.

ceres · 17/08/2010 18:09

i always used to wash towels after every use. however recently i have started to re-use them so they go in the wash after they have been used twice.

i agree with those who have pointed out that it is not just water on used towels - there are also dead skin cells etc.

i don't care how often anyone else washes their towels........but i'm not using mine more than twice.

each to their own.

LetThereBeRock · 17/08/2010 18:12

I wash bath towels after every use.

LetThereBeRock · 17/08/2010 18:14

Do people really use their towels for a whole month?

moondog · 17/08/2010 18:17

Jeus, it's morally worng to wash towels after every use.

maize · 17/08/2010 18:18

I wash all my towels once a week.

bibbitybobbityhat · 17/08/2010 18:20

Roffle at all those of you repulsed by the idea of your own skin cells.

Fraeks.

One big bath towel each. Washed once a week and hung up to dry on radiator airers or the heated towel rail after every use. Flannels, handtowels, tea towels changed every 2 or 3 days.

Please PLEASE think of all the water and electricity you are using when you wash your towels (and tumble dry???) after every use.

Jenbot · 17/08/2010 18:27

I think washing your towels every day is terribly wasteful and washing them every month is grubby.

Wash them once a week like me people! I'm doing it right!

bibbitybobbityhat · 17/08/2010 18:29

You are Jenbot! Quite right Grin.

lifeas3plus1 · 17/08/2010 18:36

Ah bubbaandbump I used to do it that way around but dp comes home from working away on a Friday night so likes to have a nice clean fluffy towel to have a shower with after sitting on a train for 4 hours.

And my housework routine starts on a Monday so it makes sense to wash the tea towels etc on a Sunday!

There is method behind my madness you know!

LetThereBeRock · 17/08/2010 18:57

I should clarify that I throw them in the laundry basket after one use but they aren't washed until I have a full load of laundry, usually every second day.

Emster30 · 17/08/2010 19:34

my dh truly cannot understand why towels need washed at all, ever.

have just had a baby and in the first week or two when he was doing all the housework he washed my towels but not his own, i noticed (washing is usually my job as i quite like doing it)

the baby seems to need a clean towel each time as he invariably wees on it.

chandellina · 17/08/2010 19:35

another vote for once a week. i hate it though when DH nicks my towel. then i need a new one and have to start hiding it where he won't grab it.

bibbitybobbityhat · 17/08/2010 19:39

I should add:

I am shocked and offended by people/mumsnetters/anyone washing their bath towel after just one use

but

I am even more outraged that some of you are muppets enough to wash your dh's/dc's bath towels, even if you don't want to, just because they sling them in the laundry basket or can't be arsed to hang them up to dry.

KLAXON ALERT: this is the 21st century ladies and you are not a servant.

mumeeee · 17/08/2010 21:16

Even my very fussy ( well about wahsing) 30 year old DD doesn't put her towel in the wash after one use. Before someone says why doesn't she do her washing hersel she does!

Snobear4000 · 17/08/2010 22:14

I am a bloke and I don't wash towels more than once a week, also, I do most of the laundry.

So poo to all you ladies saying men do this and that. As if you know every man.

ChippingIn · 17/08/2010 22:27

Tea towels - after I dry the dishes I wipe the bench and dry it with the tea towel - that goes straight into the wash.

Face cloths - rarely use them, if we do, straight into the wash.

Hand towels, changed daily, every two days - depends if we're home or not really.

Bath towels - everyone has their own - washed once or twice a week.

Daily is just mad.
Monthly is just eweewewwwwwwww (sorry, but it is).

Meglet · 17/08/2010 22:32

I only use towels twice before washing them. Hand towels are changed most days too.

Meglet · 17/08/2010 22:34

.......and don't get me started on tea towels, evil germ spreading things Grin. Mine are only out to mop up spills and then washed, never used to dry things with.

ivykaty44 · 17/08/2010 22:41

We have hand towels and I then wash them every time - otherwise things can spread germs

being half the size they don't make to much washing

ChippingIn · 17/08/2010 22:46

Meglet - mine get washed every time they're used, I have to use them to dry up (much to my distain!!) as the lime here is so bad, everything looks terrible if not dried immediately! Gahhh

Jazmyn · 18/08/2010 10:50

I am truly fascinated by the diversity of peopels towel washing habits and the ferocity with which people defend said habits!

Jazmyn · 18/08/2010 10:54
