For being utterly put off a man who sits down to wee?

Been with my man a year and in that time never saw him use the bog. T'other night we had gotten a shower together and when we got out he asked if I'd leave so he could have a wee. I told him not to be daft and to just have one whilst I was there. He reluctantly agreed and sat on the bog. I said "erm ... if you're having a crap I'll leave!" and he said "no I'm only having a wee". I said "you sit down to wee??" and he seemed to get a bit embarrassed and said "no, not usually! I'm just messing" but he did actually wee sitting down. A few nights later I was waiting to get in the shower and he shouted through the door that he was just having a quick wee. I walked in to find him sat on the toilet again. I said "Do you sit down to wee all the time?" and this time he said "yeah, I do usually". I said "Why?" and he said he didn't know but that he'd always done it.

Its really put me off! I know that sounds stupid but I find it really unmanly. AIBU?

YABU. If thats the way you measure your men, you deserve a nobber.

TrillianAstra · 11/08/2010 11:38

Yes, you freak.

You sit down to wee.

ChippingIn · 11/08/2010 11:39

LOL - it's a bit odd.... is he generally a lazy bloke? Maybe he has a bit of a 'drooping' problem and can't stand to wee? I think you should ask him about it if it's affecting the way you see him...

expatinscotland · 11/08/2010 11:39

That's weird. Dump him.

Jasonthunderpants · 11/08/2010 11:40

I sit down for a wee when I get out of bed at night. It saves me opening my eyes and putting the lights on but not as a rule in the daytime

tethersend · 11/08/2010 11:40

At least he doesn't stand to attention.

sapphireblue · 11/08/2010 11:40

yes YABU. You'll find your bathroom stayes much cleaner living with a man who sits down to wee!! My DH has been taught to sit down whilst inebriated or not wearing his glasses Grin

peppapighastakenovermylife · 11/08/2010 11:42

I know its trivial, superficial and hypocritical as I sit down to wee but I see it as a bit off putting as well!

Lavitabellissima · 11/08/2010 11:42

Lots of men do this - much cleaner I think!

Mowiol · 11/08/2010 11:43

Apparently it's quite common in Germany and Japan for men to do this! I wouldn't knock it actually because when they stand up their aim isn't too good is it? Toilets are too low in general for good aim. So let him get on with it I say.

BumSlapDance · 11/08/2010 11:44

But its "girly!"

OP posts:
pebblejones · 11/08/2010 11:45

I was going to say the same, if he sits down your toilet will remain cleaner and the toilet seat won't be left up! I see no problem at all with it and find you a little strange for having such a problem with it.

GetOrfMoiLand · 11/08/2010 11:45

You daft caaaa.

DP does this. I don't think it is a mark of oddness. He is just a idle bugger who wants to sit down to pee.

At least there is not piss all over the floor.

minipie · 11/08/2010 11:45

"really unmanly"

Really? You measure manliness by whether someone can stand up while peeing? How odd.

YABU. And leave the poor man alone while he's peeing.

Heracles · 11/08/2010 11:46

Why wouldn't you? No danger of splashes, more comfortable, ideal in case a wee turns into something more, ahem, solid. Surely it's the ideal way to evacuate?

DuelingFanjo · 11/08/2010 11:47

what a weird OP.

or not if you are trolling.

MissMarjoribanks · 11/08/2010 11:48

YABU. My DH sits down at home - uses urinals when out and about though, apparently.

Far less opportunity for stray wee droplets, so suits me.

Which reminds me that on one of the few occasions he has stood up to wee, he turned his body round to pick up the toilet roll. However, he hadn't quite finished the job, leaving a perfect arc of wee across the bathroom floor. Grin Which I later trod in discovered as for some reason he hadn't seen the need to clean it up. HmmAngry

weirdbird · 11/08/2010 11:49

My DH does this I don't think its as unusual as you might think, just not talked about.

It is entirely down to what they were taught as children and yes in some countries it is how all boys are taught.

Yes my OH can do it standing up but prefers to sit most of the time.

YABU

SilaNaGeig · 11/08/2010 11:53

it is weird but at least he won't piss all over the seat/floor/wall/curtains.

BextheBambi · 11/08/2010 11:54

Yabu, It's not weird at all I don't think anyway. My DP sits down to wee but then again thats mainly because I've burst in on him to attempt to make him jump so many times, he decided to be safer than sorry.

ChippingIn · 11/08/2010 11:56

Well, you do learn something every day. I've never known a man who sits down to wee!!

However, I might pass this onto the neighbour when I see him - as I can hear him wee, if he's sitting down it might be a little quieter :)

shockers · 11/08/2010 11:56

Maybe his mum made him because of splashing. All boys in my house must sit whilst weeing... woe betide them if I catch em standing!

miffyjane · 11/08/2010 11:58

YABU - it is completely normal and means your loo will have a cleaner floor.

I would feel more put off by a bloke who left the loo seat up. I can't bear walking into a loo with the seat up.

JuicyLips · 11/08/2010 11:59

yabu. echoes everyone else about the cleaner aspect. let him pee the way he wants!!

sanielle · 11/08/2010 11:59

Yabu. Dh says "he treats himself" by sitting down if its late and he's tired Grin

I know it is the done thing in a lot of places.. Germany the women are known for getting their blokes to sit down and not make a mess

Men are stupid though, if I could pee standing up, you'd never stop me. I'd be writing my name all over the place
