For being utterly put off a man who sits down to wee?

Been with my man a year and in that time never saw him use the bog. T'other night we had gotten a shower together and when we got out he asked if I'd leave so he could have a wee. I told him not to be daft and to just have one whilst I was there. He reluctantly agreed and sat on the bog. I said "erm ... if you're having a crap I'll leave!" and he said "no I'm only having a wee". I said "you sit down to wee??" and he seemed to get a bit embarrassed and said "no, not usually! I'm just messing" but he did actually wee sitting down. A few nights later I was waiting to get in the shower and he shouted through the door that he was just having a quick wee. I walked in to find him sat on the toilet again. I said "Do you sit down to wee all the time?" and this time he said "yeah, I do usually". I said "Why?" and he said he didn't know but that he'd always done it.

Its really put me off! I know that sounds stupid but I find it really unmanly. AIBU?

why don't you try weeing standing up and see if that puts him off :)

YABU BTW - dh often sits down to wee.

frazzle26 · 11/08/2010 12:13

YABU huni!! Take it from me, a single parent who would love to have a nice man- whether or not he peed sitting down or not!!

Rocklover · 11/08/2010 12:13

I don't think it's odd at all. My exh sat down to pee as he was blind in one eye and his aim was very bad. Less pee for me to clean up, so the bathroom never smelt like a urinal.

PrettyCandles · 11/08/2010 12:17

Not only YABU over how he chooses to wee, but YAABU invading his privacy that way.

BarmyArmy · 11/08/2010 12:24

Going to the loo is usually a private affair, so does it really matter?

His wee, so why not let him do so how he wants?

MamaVoo · 11/08/2010 12:31

Really? Utterly put off? Tbh you seem more odd for giving it a second thought than he does for weeing sitting down. Poor man to be hounded and judged for how he performs his bodily functions.

EricNorthmansmistress · 11/08/2010 12:33

YABU

coraltoes · 11/08/2010 12:41

I would be put off but just avoid watching him pee in future. I guess a guy would be surprised if his girlfriend peed standing up!

ps- also if you can pee like a man why would you EVER sit down?! i'd pee dancing about!

ManicMother7777 · 11/08/2010 12:42

he may have a condition called hypospadias where the opening is underneath - it wasn't routinely treated until the last 20 yrs...but presumably you would have realised this through certain other activities!!

pebblejones · 11/08/2010 12:42

Chippingin - can you really hear your neighbour weeing? That's icky!

3Trees · 11/08/2010 12:45

Dp does this most of the time, and I don't see the problem. YABU

Morloth · 11/08/2010 12:48

Much tidier, DH does both as does DS.

It hadn't actually occurred to me to think about it.

The loo seat goes down and any drops are cleaned up by the dropee here, thanks MIL!

Am always amazed when people talk about adults making a mess in the bathroom and not tidying up themselves.

Housewife2010 · 11/08/2010 12:50

YABU
Also, I hate loo lids being left up. I wish visitors would replace them when they have availed themselves of my facilities.

motherbeyond · 11/08/2010 12:51

i'm with you op...it's strange and effeminate!..

herjazz · 11/08/2010 12:51

Surely it's a bit off-putting watching anyone have a piss. However they do it

Least he's not pissing all over the toilet and floor. I find dh's apparent penchant for that a tad off-putting

brimfull · 11/08/2010 12:53

yup weird
dump

motherbeyond · 11/08/2010 12:54

also morloth,i know! wtf is that about?your piss, you clean it up! do i look like your mother?

shell96 · 11/08/2010 13:00

DP does this. He started a few years ago when we had a male lodger and he wanted to prove he wasn't the one "showering" around the loo! He just carried it on. Only time he stands up now is when he is drunk Hmm

I used to find it a bit weird and I know what you mean about finding it unmanly but I'm used to it now.

3Trees · 11/08/2010 13:01

In Germany, it is actually frequently written into tenancy agreements that men MUST sit down to pee, it makes the floors last longer / keeps the place cleaner etc

isthatporridgeinyourhair · 11/08/2010 13:03

YABU - who cares? And you're a bit odd if you base your view of someone on whether they sit down to take a piss.

deemented · 11/08/2010 13:04

YABVU.

And need to get a grip of yourself, quite frankly.

diddl · 11/08/2010 13:57

TBH, if it´s put you off, it has.

I´d find it odd-that & asking you to leave when he has a wee!

teenyanne · 11/08/2010 14:01

YABU. My dh sits down to wee, and quite frankly I'd rather that than have wee droplets on the floor in front of the loo / on the bathmat / on the toilet etc etc.

(and you told him he could have a wee while you were in the bathroom, if you didn't want to know how he wees, you could have left).

EnglandAllenPoe · 11/08/2010 14:06

YABU

I only wish my brothers did too. Then the bog in my Mums house wouldn't need a new carpet every two seconds.

i have heard of people in shared houses designated 'male' and 'fmale' bogs for this rason...

melikalikimaka · 11/08/2010 14:08

T'is a bit strange!
