For being utterly put off a man who sits down to wee?

Been with my man a year and in that time never saw him use the bog. T'other night we had gotten a shower together and when we got out he asked if I'd leave so he could have a wee. I told him not to be daft and to just have one whilst I was there. He reluctantly agreed and sat on the bog. I said "erm ... if you're having a crap I'll leave!" and he said "no I'm only having a wee". I said "you sit down to wee??" and he seemed to get a bit embarrassed and said "no, not usually! I'm just messing" but he did actually wee sitting down. A few nights later I was waiting to get in the shower and he shouted through the door that he was just having a quick wee. I walked in to find him sat on the toilet again. I said "Do you sit down to wee all the time?" and this time he said "yeah, I do usually". I said "Why?" and he said he didn't know but that he'd always done it.

Its really put me off! I know that sounds stupid but I find it really unmanly. AIBU?

I wish my DS3 would sit down to wee.Angry

All the seats are wet whenever I need to use them, and he's almost 11 and still can't remember to flush.Shock

melikalikimaka · 14/08/2010 12:20

Same here, DS2 always, always sprays the toilet, floor, lid. I can clean up with my eyes shut, have given up telling him. I once told DSs not to flush in the middle of the night [save water and less noise] but they have taken it to the extreme, they never flush! I give up!!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/08/2010 12:48

tbh i dont see the harm if a man wants to sit down

normally dh stands, but he was shattered after work the other day and sat down

whats the big deal Grin

piglips · 14/08/2010 13:02

Get you self some P.U.D pads (Post Urinial Drip).

SpanishHarlot · 14/08/2010 13:06

my dh always sits down to wee and he is a hairy arsed builder who would certainly not sit down on any of the site toilets or when out shopping etc

It is much cleaner, no splashes or smells in the toilet.

and leave him be when he is on the loo!!!

cumfy · 26/08/2010 17:24

OP- Is it the act itself or that you didn't discover for 1+y ?

mallet · 26/08/2010 18:17

My husband does this, and whilst it may seem odd, in fact it is probably THE best way for men to wee. This way it is guaranteed to go in the loo, unlike my 2 boys who stand to wee and mangage to soak the surrounding area!

BeenBeta · 26/08/2010 18:33

Some blokes with urinary tract problems have to sit down to pee and are advised to do so by their doctor. Plus it is easier and less messy generally. It really is not uncommon.

DW dreams of DSs sitting down to pee.

Zondra · 26/08/2010 19:15

I'm getting worried now that I'm married to a freak now, after reading all this!

A husband & son peeing standing up?! Filthy, disgusting beasts!

The Oracle that is Mumsnet,Speaker of Truth & The Way has spoken & the concensus is largely deemed to be that males must sitteth whilst doing pisseth.

Off to tell the boys! Grin

HotSprocket · 26/08/2010 19:30

My dp sits down to wee most times. Like others have said it stops him peeing on the floor so i encourage it!

sunny2010 · 26/08/2010 19:57

My husband always does think when he has been drinking. I dont think its weird.

QueenOfFlamingEverything · 26/08/2010 20:01

Not read whole thread so sorry if its been said already - some men have piercings that necessitate sitting down to wee.

Which is infinitely preferable to weeing right left and centre surely?

Onestonetogo · 26/08/2010 20:17

YANBU. Being put off is not a conscious decision anyway, so you can't be blamed for finding it off-putting!
I agree with you, I'd find it very unsexy and I feel sorry for the men who are imposed this practice, a tad humiliating and an affront to their manhood.

AllNightMilkBar · 26/08/2010 20:25

Where do I find myself this model of enlightened male that pees sitting down to minimise mess, and cleans up if there is any?

I'd have said it was pretty unusual, but judging by the number of responses to the contrary on here, apparently its not.

If this is the only problem you have with the chap, hang onto him, other men have far more offensive personal habits!

ledkr · 26/08/2010 21:39

Would be more concerned if he poohed standing up!
Seriously tho I can get why you find it weird. my dh did it on holiday when pissed.thought he looked girly and just told him. hes walking about now trying to justify it. ha ha

Heracles · 27/08/2010 00:07

Looks girly?? Does he stand when he drives as well?

Madness...

Shodan · 27/08/2010 00:25

I asked DH to start peeing sitting down after finding wee droplets on the WALL of our loo. Admittedly the wall is less than a foot away, so no great distance-peeing skills needed, but still. He was most perturbed about this as he is, by nature, a clean and orderly kind of chap.

Anyhoo. He says that he now positively enjoys his 'rest time' on the loo! The dangly bits are nowhere near the rim of the seat so no danger of germs (for whoever asked that, sorry, I forget who you were!)as he sits much like all men do on train seats etc (legs as wide apart as they will go)

If he goes to a public loo he will use the urinals if desperate but would prefer to use the cubicle 'for a nice sit down'. As to whether other men would think it odd that he did that- DH has never cared what other men think of him and besides- how would the other men know? And why would they let him know they'd been listening to his pee performance?

As for being effeminate- well, he is a 14 stone ex-rugby player so no, not really.....

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 27/08/2010 23:09

Ds sits down to pee, I thought it was odd until BeenBeta pointed me here. He just prefers to sit down, I don't have a problem as I don't have to clean the bathroom after he's been to the toilet.

Noellefielding · 27/08/2010 23:24

YANBU, it is totally wrong and offensive. I wish you hadn't told me about it.

Noellefielding · 27/08/2010 23:25

LOL at "Would be more concerned if he poohed standing up!"

PotPourri · 27/08/2010 23:26

YANBU - I think that too. But I also realise there would be much less splashback for me to clear up off the piggin' floor, so it's irrational.

also aware that ds who I am potty training pees sitting down. Not sure at what point you start getting them to do it standing - maybe that is how it happens this sitting down to wee thing

paddyclamp · 28/08/2010 00:17

Actually i can kinda see where the OP is coming from

MoralDefective · 28/08/2010 00:38

Wish my DS's would sit down to wee...dirty buggers.DP often sit's to wee in the morning and in the night but usually stands.....blimey,that sounds like i watch every time!Hmm

MoralDefective · 28/08/2010 00:42

When DS started weeing in the loo we put a ping pong ball in it so he could aim at it and make it spin, they don't flush away unless you use paperGrin
