For being utterly put off a man who sits down to wee?

Been with my man a year and in that time never saw him use the bog. T'other night we had gotten a shower together and when we got out he asked if I'd leave so he could have a wee. I told him not to be daft and to just have one whilst I was there. He reluctantly agreed and sat on the bog. I said "erm ... if you're having a crap I'll leave!" and he said "no I'm only having a wee". I said "you sit down to wee??" and he seemed to get a bit embarrassed and said "no, not usually! I'm just messing" but he did actually wee sitting down. A few nights later I was waiting to get in the shower and he shouted through the door that he was just having a quick wee. I walked in to find him sat on the toilet again. I said "Do you sit down to wee all the time?" and this time he said "yeah, I do usually". I said "Why?" and he said he didn't know but that he'd always done it.

Its really put me off! I know that sounds stupid but I find it really unmanly. AIBU?

I would rather have a guy that sat down, than one with a crap aim peeing all over the seat/loo/floor. It also smells less.

diddl · 11/08/2010 14:12

Who are all these men who can´t get the wee in the toilet standing up-or if there´s a drop somewhere can´t wipe it up?

Iklboo · 11/08/2010 14:13

As long as he got it all in the bowl I couldn't care less if DH stood on his head.

franklampoon · 11/08/2010 14:40

he's an abuser and probably cheating on you.
Install keystroke software and check his phone immediately.

Nah, it's no big deal

NetworkGuy · 11/08/2010 15:15

At least 80% of the time I sit down. I think there were plans in Sweden to make it the law that toilets in new buildings would not include urinals.

I don't, however, think there would be widespread acceptance of 'unisex' toilet facilities at least for another 100 years.

Using a toilet is (in general) a 'private' thing, yet I know Australian and US porn seems to incorporate young women taking a pee, which is perhaps just a 'taboo too far' for me to accept as either acceptable or stimulating... it just does nothing for me.

I was also surprised to once view (online) a video clip of some woman (20s at a guess), who removed her underwear at a Croydon bus shelter (traffic flowing steadily, parkland stretching away from the bus shelter) and then "let go" a stream, forming a puddle.

She just pulled her mini-skirt down for modesty, and walked off down the pavement afterwards.

emptyshell · 11/08/2010 15:40

He's never gonna leave the loo seat up - don't knock it.

tyler80 · 11/08/2010 15:48

I actually think it's more manly to not give a shit that people might think you're effeminate if you sit down to pee.

In the same way that proper men shouldn't even flinch if you ask them to go buy tampons/sanitary towels. Grin

Taghain · 12/08/2010 17:13

Is he Pakistani?
It's common for men in S.Asia to pee squatting and this translates into sitting in Europe. I was told that they find it difficult to pee standing up as it's not what they're used to.

lifeas3plus1 · 12/08/2010 17:21

What a strange op!

What the hell does it matter that he sits down to pee?

My dp sits down to pee at home, I laugh in the face of the housekeeping threads that ask how to get the smell of wee out of their bathrooms as I don't have that problem.

He does stand when he is in public toilets though! I don't care about that. I'm not the one cleaning them. Grin

FWIW, I think he picked up the whole sitting down thing when he lived in Germany. Apparently it's common place for men to sit down to pee there.

Myleetlepony · 12/08/2010 17:25

Bloody good idea. I wish they'd all do that. It certainly wouldn't put me off a bloke.

lovely74 · 12/08/2010 17:29

My DH does this at home. without his specs on at night he is pretty much blind so couldn;t see the loo to aim, and I think this has just spread to all at home wees.

I admit I did find it a bit odd at first, put it certainly didn't "put me off" him. There are much odder habits a man can have. It's a foible, leave him to it!

msrisotto · 12/08/2010 17:31

YABU, I wish my dp would sit down to pee, rather than miss the loo/risk sprinkles.

justonemorethen · 12/08/2010 17:54

YANBU

Yuck! Would totally put me off if a bloke sat down to wee.

I'm not making this up but my last BF was a Royal Marine and could get pissed, wake up in the night and piss with perfect aim into any receptical going. No mess, drips or spillage.
It sounds sad but I was v. impressed with this skill.

I've never met a bloke who misses the toilet generally though either. Even my 6 yaer old can master that skill.

msrisotto · 12/08/2010 18:09

There are some very strange people on this thread!

WhyMeWhyNot · 12/08/2010 18:17

At least he didn't wee whilst with you in the shower, that's a whole new thread .........

Squitten · 12/08/2010 18:25

It had never occurred to me before now that blokes might sit down to pee - MN is such an education Grin

Have just yelled up to DH to ask if he ever does it (I have never ever watched him pee in 9yrs together!) and apparently he does if he's using the small loo downstairs because it doesn't have a lock yet and DS1 is very interested in all things bog-related so trips to the loo are never solo!

Don't know why the way someone pees is in any way off-putting. Peeing is peeing is peeing!

ChippingIn · 12/08/2010 19:15

Pebblejones Afraid so, our bathrooms are back to back. I have been in flats where you hear the neighbours upstairs weeing too - it's men standing and the wee hitting the water from a height.... lovely Hmm

orienteerer · 12/08/2010 19:21

DH does if he gets up during the night, in our ensuite = limited noise. Very considerate IMO.

ChippingIn · 12/08/2010 19:22

OK this is MN right? We talk about everything right? (see the Commando thread if you need proof of that!) - so I'm just going to ask....

Do the dangy bits not get dirty/disinfected from the inside of the toilet seat/pan? and don't any of them have the problem my friends little DS does - it squirts out between the seat & the pan (but he's only 3 so still learning!)?

My Ex used to joke that he couldn't wee sitting down as he wouldn't want to get it wet Grin

muriel76 · 12/08/2010 19:23

LOL leave the poor bloke alone!!

Yabu

off to dream about a clean, pee-free bathroom floor

Iloveautumn · 12/08/2010 19:35

Lol, I am laughing at this thread as I thought my dh was the only man who sat down to wee!

Mumsnet is great for making you realise there aren't really many things people do that lots of other people don't do too!!

In response to the OP - I kind of know where you're coming from, I did think it was weird when I first realised dh sits down to wee... But it didn't put me off him - I don't think you can really like this man that much - I'm not sure anything would've put me off dh when we first met!

blueshoes · 12/08/2010 19:44

For those with partners who wee sitting down, do you know what your partner does in a public toilet. Does he use the urinals or go into a stall and close the door.

Would other men think it weird if he went into a stall and only did a wee?

SrStanislaus · 12/08/2010 19:45

A friend taught her DH to pee sitting down and he wasnt at all abashed about it.She argued much the same as everyone else has - no drips and therefore no smell. Mind you she was obsessive about housekeeping - she did everything humanly possible to ensure that her house was dust and germ free. She hoovered her dog (golden lab),hoovered and washed out the bin shed and 'invented' oven chips (not very well)so that grease didn't splash on her surfaces .
But that all was forgotten when she ran off with a hairy biker Grin ...maybe she was bored?

this article is interesting though

fightingthela · 12/08/2010 19:54

Get yourself a She-wee and then see if that puts him off you! YABVVU - what does it matter how he wees? Different strokes for different folks and all that.

wahwah · 12/08/2010 19:57

I have taught ds to sit down at home and stand up outside ( unless I'm with him). I really don't understand why anyone wants boy and man piss over their loos-although dh
is very clean.

Also, why do women hover above public loos and piss over the seats? If everyone sat down then we might not have to cope with disgusting pissy loos.
