I'm crying for the 4th time because John Lewis has messed me around so much and left me, my son and my parents so disappointed..they live abroad, when came ordered a present from JLwith nominated day delivery..it didnt happen and the whole sat evening we were waiting for the van to come, cancelled our meal...the present turned up at 9 instead of before 6pm as stated - that was the 1st time i cried coz of distress, then when my dad put it together(its a trike ) we discovered that the brakes are faulty...we all were soooooooo upset...as my parents couldnt give it like that...and JL said they can deliver only on tuesday, as my parents are leaving in the afternoon, they promised to deliver before 10.30...They have NOT..on city link website it says there was an attemp - well its such a BLOW..WE ALL HAVENT LEFT THE HOUSE AND THERE WAS NO ATTEMPT......I am a grown up woman, but sobbing like a girl...the customer service said we probably missed the driver....dONT KNOW WHAT TO DO, FEEL SO HELPLESS...

I love you OP cos' I was having a miserable afternoon until I read this. The trauma of the faulty trike has put my own worries into perspective.

Snort and chuckle at being handed a grip. And the fact Citylink are struggling with deliveries because of the trunks.... Those unreliable elephants eh?

emptyshell · 27/07/2010 17:53

I can just see this story on the front page of the Nowhere Gazette though - accompanied by the mandatory photo of stern faced mother and miserable child and empty trike box.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 27/07/2010 17:54

OP You can take great comfort in the fact you are not alone.
For the past 8 odd years after Christmas Day I would trudge into work and be told that I have ruined someones childs Christmas because of a faulty toy/piece missing and no amount of apologies and offers to replace toy or refund is good enough.
It really hits home when someone is having a go at my boss about ruined christmas' and children never forgetting it when my boss' father was laid up in hospital with kidney failure and MRSA.

You want to just scream GET A FUCKING LIFE!

But you have hopefully seen the light and can maybe save the hysterics for the more important things eh? Like realising you have no wine after a long hard day with fractious children.

LOl. I used to work in a restaurant and one year just before Christmas it caught fire. Place was gutted and I got the lovely job of phoning hundreds of people to cancel their bookings. You would not believe the amount of people who went crazy because their Christmas was now completely ruined . I would just sweetly say "I'm so sorry our accidental fire has ruined your Christmas but I'm sure you will be glad to know none of our employees or the firefighters died". That usually shut them up.

I remember during the actual fire sitting in the back of a fire engine cancelling that evenings bookings. One lady went ballistic because she had a cake in our fridge and she demanded I get it. I explained there were 7 fire engines on the scene and the building was in flames. She then phoned me every half hour screeching about her cake. She even phoned my boss to complain about my appalling attitude.

Heebiejeebie · 27/07/2010 19:38

Perhaps the christening was meant to involve a (renounce) Evil Kinievel style trike-leap into the font. Although, in that case, the lack of brakes should have guarranteed a fine splash, rather than a flood of tears.

Turniphead1 · 27/07/2010 19:56

Has anyone considered the safety implications of Archie wearing his (bought in John Lewis) christening gown WHILST pedalling (a la infant prodigy) his new trike? Recipe for diasaster (as someone who has mangled various long cardigans on the chain of her bike).

So I think it much better that the trike was unusable until after the christening.

I look forward to the thread about the Audi TT he gets for his First Holy Communion.

Trafficcone · 27/07/2010 20:11

Turniphead that just made me snork very loudly!! Fab!

TiggyD · 27/07/2010 20:17

You have to have a trike for your christening:

The Bible says in the Book Of Tiggy 24:7
-And Jesus said unto the crowd "He who wanteth to geteth into Heaveneth must purify themselves first in the river. Thou must wear a frilly white dress and cycleth into the river on a tricycle"
And the crowd did cry "Are you taking the piss mate?"
And JayCee replies "No, honestly, and the tricycle is the most important bit. I don't even have my fingers crossed or nothin'"

AprilMeadow · 27/07/2010 20:35

Seriously, I think you need to get a grip!

Your parents got to give him the trike and now know that a replacement is on the way. You could take a photo of him on it and send it to your parents....

giraffesCanDanceInTheSun · 27/07/2010 20:40

PMSL op you need to get a life with real things to worry about!

sonia77 · 27/07/2010 21:08

Im crying with laughter at the replies . . . Thankfully the church of england encourages forgiveness so recompense should not be required.

I'm semi-hysterical with laughter after reading this thread.

Pure MN gold.

EmmaKateWH · 27/07/2010 21:55

Wow. I hope nothing ACTUALLY bad ever happens to you. Something tells me you won't cope well.

may19 · 27/07/2010 21:58

Not sure whether i believe this a genuine thread, but bloody hell this sure is the funniest thread in ages.

Habbibu · 27/07/2010 22:08

Just want to note my admiration for heebie-jeebie: "Perhaps the christening was meant to involve a (renounce) Evil Kinievel style trike-leap into the font. Although, in that case, the lack of brakes should have guarranteed a fine splash, rather than a flood of tears. "

Inspired.

Altaira · 27/07/2010 22:14

OP

Poor you. It is really hard when you have high expectations for events and then things don't happen as planned.

I can see why it all got a bit much for you.

Hopefully you've taken most of these comments in a generous spirit.

If you find you are generally getting very emotional over realtively minor things, then it may be worth talking to some-one like GP or HV.

savoycabbage · 27/07/2010 23:31

JL once refused to sell me some reins as I told them I wanted to use them in my pram and they said it could be a danger so I think Turniphead is right.

JL got wind of the christening tricycle being ridden by a nine month old in an oversized frock and delivered the christening tricycle after Archie's bedtime for Health and Safety reasons. Good old John Lewis, always so sensible.

lemonysweet · 27/07/2010 23:46

'Christ was on a trike before he was on a bike'

archstanton · 27/07/2010 23:49

Do trikes have brakes? I don't think so! How would they work anyway with two separate wheels at the back. I don't think brakes come on any of those under 3 things.

Bollocks but funny!

Trafficcone · 28/07/2010 12:52

Archstanton, someone linked to the actual product and it does have a brake. Presumably one to be activated by the parents as it has one of those ridiculous 'parent poles' on it.

Note to parents: if you need to push the child with a silly pole, they're too young for a trike.

thederkinsdame · 28/07/2010 12:59

'brakes? on a trike? You were lucky. When I were a lad t'hole family had to get around on a single roller skate. An' there were no laces left... and so on.

auntpolly · 28/07/2010 13:08

I actually know a guy called John Lewis, I thought he'd been gatecrashing religious ceremonies again. He's prone to erratic behaviour, what with having such an unfortunate name. Turns out I owe him an apology.

Fibilou · 28/07/2010 15:16

My mother's friend's daughter has just been told her baby has died in utero at 38 weeks.

So you should be counting your blessings that you have a healthy baby to christen, not whinging about a defective trike.

I've got a baptism class this evening for DD, must make a mental note to ask the vicar if I need to supply a trike to avoid spoiling it

LimaCharlie · 28/07/2010 15:24

OP glad you have calmed down a little
