I'm crying for the 4th time because John Lewis has messed me around so much and left me, my son and my parents so disappointed..they live abroad, when came ordered a present from JLwith nominated day delivery..it didnt happen and the whole sat evening we were waiting for the van to come, cancelled our meal...the present turned up at 9 instead of before 6pm as stated - that was the 1st time i cried coz of distress, then when my dad put it together(its a trike ) we discovered that the brakes are faulty...we all were soooooooo upset...as my parents couldnt give it like that...and JL said they can deliver only on tuesday, as my parents are leaving in the afternoon, they promised to deliver before 10.30...They have NOT..on city link website it says there was an attemp - well its such a BLOW..WE ALL HAVENT LEFT THE HOUSE AND THERE WAS NO ATTEMPT......I am a grown up woman, but sobbing like a girl...the customer service said we probably missed the driver....dONT KNOW WHAT TO DO, FEEL SO HELPLESS...

Please tell me this is a wind up. If not, then you seriously need to get a grip.

proudnsad · 27/07/2010 12:24

This must be a wind up by those weirdy bike men?

If not, OP can I swap lives with you? If this is what you consider to be a weep-worthy problem, the rest of your life must be a living Nirvana.

a Christening trike? For a 9 month old baby who won't be able to ride it for months (and certainly won't need brakes)? I've heard it all now.........

breatheslowly · 27/07/2010 12:35

Where in all of this was the christening?

MumNWLondon · 27/07/2010 12:41

Get a grip, its only a trike, he'll get it fixed soon, its your fault the christening was spoilt by totally overreacting, these things happen. Assuming he's quite small he won't realise anyway.

Hopefully you'll never have a reason to actually be upset.

why do trikes need brakes? Isn't that what feet are for?

I think, OP, that you need to get a little fridge magnet that says "don't sweat the small stuff". And and I think you have now gathered, this really is "small stuff".

Hope the rest of the parental was good though.

StrictlyTory · 27/07/2010 13:00

Wow! This is literally the most pathetic attempt to get some compensation I've ever seen

Good Lord a Baptism is about joining God's family not getting a frigging trike! If it was ruined by that it must have been a very poor day to start with.... I cannot believe people are actually so concerned by a trike for a baby that they would let it ruin a normal day let alone a Baptism.

What do you hope to gain from this? JL to say that seen as how your whole life has practically impoloded due to the late arrival of a trike that they will give you £1000 I bet that's what you hope...

Al1son · 27/07/2010 13:20

FRWL you need to go and have a peek at the SN threads and then have a think about why you are sobbing and feeling helpless. You need to get a bit of perspective on life.

Either that or go and see your GP to get treatment for the severe depression you may be experiencing if you really can't cope with such a minor hiccup in your life.

Giddyup · 27/07/2010 13:28

YABU obviously but, poor FRWL she took her piss taking in good spirit. She now feels pretty silly... Leave her alone now

ruddynorah · 27/07/2010 13:29

OP, i thought you were going to say JL were doing the catering and you had 150 people sitting starving in church hall cos your butties didn't arrive.

dear oh dear. trikes are for birthdays and christmas. christenings are for silver ware and bible stories.

archie will never know. i'm sure you'll have taken lots of photos of the day so just delete the ones with you looking red eyed and puffy faced and it'll be fiiiiine!

gorionine · 27/07/2010 13:36

FRWL, you do not haveto answer this but what were your parents doing while you were sobbing your heart out for an undelievered trike? Did they not tell you it did not matter?

piprabbit · 27/07/2010 13:44

I love JL and their deliveries.
DH bought me a v. expensive changing bag as a gift when DC1 was born. Item arrived from JL, but was faulty.
DH phoned up, but they were struggling to find an identical replacement.

In the end a very lovely man from JL Bluewater drove the 30 miles to our house to delivery it in his own time.

Fab.

Fimbo · 27/07/2010 13:52

Is this it??

John Lewis suppliers failed to deliver flowers for mothers day last year on the Sunday like they said they would. I phoned customer services and was given a full refund. The flowers arrived the next day.

Fimbo · 27/07/2010 13:54

then when my dad put it together(its a trike ) we discovered that the brakes are faulty...

Bingo!!! It's a wind-up. None of the JL trike things on line have brakes.........

noddyholder · 27/07/2010 13:55

You will look back on this and think Think of the bigger picture your parents were there the present is irrelevant

ShatnersBassoon · 27/07/2010 13:56

This is shocking!

I am never going to buy anything from John Lewis again, and I'm never going to get Christened. I'm sobbing for you.

Ah, actually I've pulled myself together now. Need some mini ice packs, and I think JL will be my best bet

John Lewis has the best customer service ever - we had a delivery of our new oven not show up due to a screw up and I'd cancelled plans to stay in to get it. I phoned JL very nicely and said that this was inconvienent and they asked if they could offer me £60!!! of vouchers. Ummm yes.

5DollarShake · 27/07/2010 14:04

FRWL - you have admitted that you over-reacted, so fair play to you for that.

A bit of a lesson learnt though, huh?

By falling about sobbing and over-reacting, you only make all those around you even more upset. Your parents, your son - and anyone else unlucky enough to be around you when this all kicked off.

If you'd kept your cool, smiled and reassured everyone that it really didn't matter in the grand scheme of things, they'd all feel better about it, and you'd probably have saved several trees worth of kleenex yourself.

LIZS · 27/07/2010 14:04

If it is that one we had similar it was a pita to put together and the brake is hardly worth it anyway ! You could have assembled it without then exchanged later. May I suggest with the benefit of experience , never to allow only one evening to put together an item for a special occasion - b'day , Christmas, Playmobil, bike etc - as it is a recipe for stress, frustration and disappointment

StrictlyTory · 27/07/2010 14:05

Yes exactly their customer services is frankly outstanding which really makes me think this is one of those threads where the company name is in the title in an effort for JL to get in touch and offer something.... Personally I'm very cynical about the whole idea of someone thinking a company and a trike could ruin a baby's Baptism at all, even if you were having a bad day.
