FRWL · 27/07/2010 11:01

I'm crying for the 4th time because John Lewis has messed me around so much and left me, my son and my parents so disappointed..they live abroad, when came ordered a present from JLwith nominated day delivery..it didnt happen and the whole sat evening we were waiting for the van to come, cancelled our meal...the present turned up at 9 instead of before 6pm as stated - that was the 1st time i cried coz of distress, then when my dad put it together(its a trike ) we discovered that the brakes are faulty...we all were soooooooo upset...as my parents couldnt give it like that...and JL said they can deliver only on tuesday, as my parents are leaving in the afternoon, they promised to deliver before 10.30...They have NOT..on city link website it says there was an attemp - well its such a BLOW..WE ALL HAVENT LEFT THE HOUSE AND THERE WAS NO ATTEMPT......I am a grown up woman, but sobbing like a girl...the customer service said we probably missed the driver....dONT KNOW WHAT TO DO, FEEL SO HELPLESS...

OK, you are over reacting a bit. But I would also be very pissed off at the shoddy delivery and faulty product. I also hate how delivery companies often blatantly lie about trying to deliver things

Your son's christening hasn't been spoiled though.

Channel your anger and write some very stern letters to John Lewis and City Link expressing your disappointment as a loyal customer. Demand apologies and vouchers - it'll make you feel better.

toccatanfudge · 27/07/2010 11:13

PMSL @ Yuno (sorry OP)

mummyofexcited - I bet someone else got him a bible,

LIZS · 27/07/2010 11:14

I meant that if an item, which was in an intact box, was faulty they wouldn't have known it was faulty when they sent it. OP almost implies they did it deliberately ! Of course JL are responsible for arranging an exchange for the faulty trike which they seem to have attempted to do within 2 days.

ShirleyKnot · 27/07/2010 11:14

coo!

To talk about a missed delivery as "such a BLOW" is just...well, a bit OTT.

SalFresco · 27/07/2010 11:16

OP's parent live abroad, and probably don't see her DS very often. I can see why inthose circumstances, a missed delivery / faulty item would be more upsetting than really it shoul be...

Headbanger · 27/07/2010 11:18

Crikey. A toddler-tantrum is not a good example to set to your son .

YABU. And also a teeny, teeny bit mad.

ShirleyKnot · 27/07/2010 11:19

Yes Sal, I think this is probably more about the fact that the OP's parents are going home today than anything else really.

waitingforbedtime · 27/07/2010 11:19

Its disappointing but why did you ALL stay in for a delivery of a trike? Cancel the order and go buy one from somewhere wher eyou can just pick it up?

Its really not that big a deal in the wider scheme of things is it?

How old is your son?

toccatanfudge · 27/07/2010 11:20

yes but the OP says the trike arrived while the parents were still there. And it was put together - they could have "given" it to him like that, if he's old enough to be upset about not being able to ride it, he'll have been old enough to explain why. They could have taken their happy photos of him sat on it.

If he's too young to explain the reason for not being able to ride it he probably wouldn't have used the brakes anyhow.......

I have some fab photos of DS3 sat on his bike he got for his 3rd birthday..........he couldn't ride it as when I put it together I didn't have the spanner I needed to tighten it up properly.

It was mildly annoying - but really not the end of the world and certainly didn't ruin his birthday

LynetteScavo · 27/07/2010 11:20

YABU.

If this has upset you so much, I really think you need to get some help.

It's hardly JLs fault...the manufacturer and the courier, maybe.

Rockbird · 27/07/2010 11:23

Can't add anything else other than go and have a lie on the sofa and a cup of tea, it's really not worth getting worked up over.

pastapestofor6 · 27/07/2010 11:24

wow I wish this was the biggest worry I had!
YABVU grow up op!

toccatanfudge · 27/07/2010 11:24

maybe (to be slightly fairer to the OP) it has put the dampers on her parents visit - but I'm still not sure how it ruined the Christening.......

BelligerentGhoul · 27/07/2010 11:25

You cancelled a meal to wait for a delivery?

You feel 'so helpless' that you now need to wait for another delivery?

Please, tell me that this is a joke. Otherwise, fgs get hold of the grip that somebody offered you earlier and grab hold of it - you are going to need it if this is the worst you've had to contend with so far.

breatheslowly · 27/07/2010 11:26

OP are you hoping that there is a JL representative lurking on here like OcadoAnnie who will jump to attention and give you some compensation to prevent reputational damage?

If not then perhaps you should seek medical help for your overreaction.

getabloodygrip · 27/07/2010 11:27

I have this nickname for a reason.

FRWL · 27/07/2010 11:28

Oh..thank you so much for your kindness...I know im overeacting...my parents leave very far away, havent been able to see Archie for ages, my dad hasnt met him ever....and i am so upset for them, wanted to make it for them....Archie wont understand, but because im a nevrotic perfectionist mother - hid special day wasnt as special as i dreamed about...expectations...but still so upsetting....lol at some comment - cheered me up...

You cried FOUR times over this? Really?
How.... freaky sad.

Yabu, of course. Presumably the Christening happened at a church and not at home whilst awaiting a delivery. Therefore John Lewis/Citylink did not "ruin" your sons welcome to the Christian Faith.

gettingtogrips · 27/07/2010 11:29

Wow! You need to mop up all those tears for the sake of your parents. You need to show them that it really doesn't matter or they'll feel horribly guilty. Can't you go and pick it up from the shop if it's that crucial?

getabloodygrip · 27/07/2010 11:29

FRWL presumably stands for something.. any guesses?

Flippin Real World Lady?

FRWL · 27/07/2010 11:29

P.S. JL are supposed to check before the dispatch as customer service said..but didnt (

OP posts:
OrientCalf · 27/07/2010 11:30

if I were a cynic I might suggest that you posted publicly to get some sort of compensation from JL

I can understand your annoyance but it is a little ott

domesticsluttery · 27/07/2010 11:30

I can be a bit of a perfectionist too, so can understand that your plans were spoiled. However, this doesn't mean that it wasn't a very special occasion, and that your parents didn't have a wonderful time with their grandson. I think you need to put it slightly more in perspective.
