I'm crying for the 4th time because John Lewis has messed me around so much and left me, my son and my parents so disappointed..they live abroad, when came ordered a present from JLwith nominated day delivery..it didnt happen and the whole sat evening we were waiting for the van to come, cancelled our meal...the present turned up at 9 instead of before 6pm as stated - that was the 1st time i cried coz of distress, then when my dad put it together(its a trike ) we discovered that the brakes are faulty...we all were soooooooo upset...as my parents couldnt give it like that...and JL said they can deliver only on tuesday, as my parents are leaving in the afternoon, they promised to deliver before 10.30...They have NOT..on city link website it says there was an attemp - well its such a BLOW..WE ALL HAVENT LEFT THE HOUSE AND THERE WAS NO ATTEMPT......I am a grown up woman, but sobbing like a girl...the customer service said we probably missed the driver....dONT KNOW WHAT TO DO, FEEL SO HELPLESS...

Tell, me, please, tell me Archie isnt a baby???

How far away do your parents live?

KathyImLost · 27/07/2010 11:33

It's a while since I've been to a christening. Are trikes a big feature of christenings these days then?

TigerFeet · 27/07/2010 11:33

Blimey. Crap service but hardly deserving of a full blown breakdown.

Seen any threads discussing poor customer service from chain stores recently?

Headbanger · 27/07/2010 11:34

OP in all honesty, if you get this strung out a lot I think maybe you should see your GP? Anxiety disorders etc. are punishing to live with. You really don't need to live your life at a perpetual pitch of hysterical neuroticism. Not good for you or your son...

OP, I sympathise with the out of proportion blowing occurring here. I suffer horrendously with PMT, and would either sob and feel like the sky was falling, or would become punchy in a most unhelpful manner. I prescribe evening primrose oil, a large bar of chocolate and some comfy jammies. In a matter of days, you will look back at the end of the world trike disaster and think 'WTF was I thinking?!'. Honest.

gorionine · 27/07/2010 11:36

FRWL, My parents live abroad too, they visited me twice in the las 15 years. I really do not understand you, not seing your parents often is exactly the reason why you should not have let that go so much to you! Why putting off a nice meal out with them for the sake of a trike?

I'm pretty sure Jesus didn't mention tricycles as being essential for baptism but I may have been misreading the bible all these years....

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 27/07/2010 11:39

Never come here for a hug, FRWL. It is not the Done Thing. We will, however, pass you virtual snacks

toccatanfudge · 27/07/2010 11:40

Trafficone = didn't Jesus say let the little children come unto me on their trikes??

AccioPinotGrigio · 27/07/2010 11:43

Such a shame you wasted precious time with your family stressing over this.

oopsandbabycoconuts · 27/07/2010 11:43

It was the Mildmanneredjanitor who explained it all with 'Christ on a bike', so that is how trikes fit into Christenings

gagamama · 27/07/2010 11:47

It's obvivously frustrating that the toy was delivered late then turned out to be faulty, and then the replacement was not delivered on time either. And the circumstances with your parents is unfortunate as well. But I don't really see how it has ruined your DSs Christening. You've basically just had some problems getting a working toy delivered, it's really not the end of the world.

Are you married? Dare I suggest you were possibly a bit of a bridezilla?

Hope it gets sorted out anyway.

franke · 27/07/2010 11:48

Aaww OP, I'm guessing you're feeling a bit upset about your parents leaving today, and the crapness of Citylink has overshadowed your last day together. Poor you Please take the affectionately funny comments on here in the spirit in which they are meant and remember that your little boy won't be aware of not getting his trike, he'll just be happy at all the attention he's had from these two slightly strange but lovely older folks that have been around for the last few days. Keep that grip and plot close at hand girl

Fartytowels · 27/07/2010 11:50

I can only surmise that John Lewis and Citylink are in league with the devil... Mumsnetters should take note of this fact before ordering any Holy Trinity tricycles in the future.

Now if you'll excuse me the battery has gone on my electric pencil sharpener and I need to go and have a good cry about it.

FRWL · 27/07/2010 11:51

RealityKicksArse, do we know each other??

OP, I know what it's like when you want everything to be perfect, but I think you've set your expectations a little high and are allowing something that really isn't all that bad to overshadow the experience.

It sounds like you've realised you're overreacting though. Don't worry, Archie won't understand/remember (if PPs are right about him being 9 months old), he'll have enjoyed spending time with his grandparents and I'm sure he'll love the trike when he finally gets it. Hope they sort the delivery soon.

peppapighastakenovermylife · 27/07/2010 11:56

fartytowels 'Mumsnetters should take note of this fact before ordering any Holy Trinity tricycles in the future.'

That sentence nearly sent me into labour

CreepyFunbags · 27/07/2010 12:00

Sounds like it was the straw that broke the camel's back. Have an early night tonight.

Your son won't mind about the trike, your parents have spent time with your son, that is the important thing.

ccpccp · 27/07/2010 12:03

Citylink?

Theres your answer.

Utter utter m0rons. If you live slightly out of the way or are the last on their route, you will NOT get your item, though driver will record it as 'delivery attempted' so they still get money.

Do NOT go into their depot to pick your item up, as this is how they cut costs and make a profit. Demand they deliver it again. And again. And again.

Then cancel the order with John Lewis - explaining exactly why you are disatisfied. The sooner Citylink go out of business, the better.

harassedinhants · 27/07/2010 12:12

YABU - but I think you've realised that now!!

I deal with City Link everyday (in a work capacity), and they're having big problems with timed deliveries today due to late trunks. They have a facility now that you can log onto their website www.city-link.co.uk and they take a picture of the door they've tried to deliver to. I don't know if this is available everywhere, but I've used it several times lately to pacify irate customers!! You can get your consignment number of the label on the parcel. It's normally 3 letters and 5 numbers.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 27/07/2010 12:19

Seriously, at 9 months old DS had to be held to stay on a trike, there was no using of brakes going on.

OP you really must calm down. There will be so so many things over the years to do with your child that won't go quite to plan and you will be a gibbering wreck if you get into this state over all of them.
