Yes it's a fact, BA, that some MNers are not working at the moment but it doesn't mean that those of us who aren't are unable to use correct vocabulary, punctuation and grammar.

Your post did seem to imply that we have never worked or been out in the real world when so many of us would love to be earning but are either lone parents (not by choice) or caring for disabled children.

FellatioNelson · 26/07/2010 18:41

Erm...it depends. Generally I don't go in for correcting grammar or spelling - I'd be here all day frankly, and it's rude and unnecessary - though some of it's quite painful to read sometimes. But there are rare occasions when it simply must be done. Depends very much on the context of the thread though.

scottishmummy · 26/07/2010 19:34

i do like bumptious spelling pedant getting some comeuppance for an error though.and then snigger as they ohh and aahh to wriggle out

one rule for them(hey its a typo alright) and another for anyone else (as their spelling makes em look fick, innit)

usualsuspect · 26/07/2010 19:40

My spelling and grammar just make me look drunk mostly

oh wait .....

BarmyArmy · 26/07/2010 20:24

MiladyDeSummer - hey, I don't mind the reason for your unemployment (although I think you do, with that chip-on-shoulder inference).

I was simply pointing out (or even, for your sake) reminding everyone that, in the world of work, one is expected to communicate clearly and cogently.

FellatioNelson · 26/07/2010 20:33

usualsuspect mine too. It's spot on though.

GetOrfMoiLand · 26/07/2010 20:37

I don't think I have ever pulled someone up on their spelling - what's the point?

I can spell myself but my typing is abysmal, and I am so used to auto correct on outlook and word that I come unstuck on MN.

Grammar is also shite.

I normally point out my own mistakes if I make them so people don't think I am fick.

FellatioNelson · 26/07/2010 20:41

I think it's quite easy to tell a typo from a spelling mistake TBH. When someone cries 'typo' I'm quite often a bit . I let it lie though.

But I have on occasion had a mad brain lapse and typed there for their or they're for example. Doesn't mean I don't know the difference, just sometimes when typing in haste or under the influence, and not bothering to preview stuff, one gets sloppy. Now that I would have to self-correct. Couldn't live with the shame!

My favourite was the woman complaining about her 'cancel' refusing to pay her daughter's bus fares to private stage school. She cried 'typo'. That was one hell of a big finger slippage.

laughing at cancel imagining it said in pat butcher voice. bleedin cancel do nuffink for ya

MiladyDeSummer · 26/07/2010 20:48

BA I agree with you, it's important, of course it is. I wouldn't dream of writing, "I am so doing" in a business letter for example

Not sure why being temporarily unemployed because I have a severely disabled child equates to having a chip in my shoulder though.

I'm lucky to have a DH earning and helping with the caring responsibilities but others are not in such a fortunate position. That's all I was saying in answer to your comment about non-working MNers.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 26/07/2010 20:49

lol that is hilaire

scottishmummy · 26/07/2010 20:50

For some reason I remember from years ago Bianca yelling at Pauline Fahler 'oo did your hair, the cancel'

GetOrfMoiLand · 26/07/2010 21:00

Ooh I love it when SM gets all precious moments.

scottishmummy · 26/07/2010 21:01

its my fave phrase up there with words on a screen.but i see someone else has said that already

varicoseveined · 26/07/2010 21:01

I'm a pedant. But the only people I'd ever pull up about grammar would be my own DC.

scottishmummy · 26/07/2010 21:04
