To think that Denise Fergus should have stayed at home?

I don't understand why she (mum of Jamie Bulger) had to go and sit in court when John Venables was being sentenced for his more recent crime. I will never forget the horror of hearing what happened to her little boy, and I know that she will never get over it - but how can it possibly help her to keep appearing on tv and making statements about what happens now? She seems to feel she has a right to be told all about everything, and while I can sympathise with her opinion to a certain extent I don't know that she does really. I saw her being interviewed when he was arrested earlier in the year and she said she'd had to keep her children off school because of the publicity - but she seems to be generating a lot of it herself.
Please don't think me hard hearted, it's just that I don't get it.

Oooh, I can feel my blood pressure rising seeing this again.

It's one of the few threads to stick in my mind long term, you just can't believe some folk.

AgentZigzag · 12/02/2013 16:41

There's an article on the beeb today about his Dad 20 years on.

skratta · 12/02/2013 16:44

She lost her child, she wants justice. HER child was tortured, her child was killed, and nobody else has any right to tell her that she shouldn't get publicity and want justice for her child, how she should feel, grieve or act. I don't want to find out why she does things, because to know why, you'd have to live through exactly what happened, feel exactly how she felt, and only then would you even get close to an understanding of why she acts the way she does.

Sometimes when these things happen, we react by needing to know everything. She said herself she wanted to know all so that was the lowest and she could eventually then rise up from it, knowing all the info, knowing the worst. In some way, I feel like it keeps her feeling still close to James, I know that may sound odd, but I think I can understand her actions.

Gth1234 · 04/01/2019 13:09

@prozacfairy
exactly what I was thinking.

She and James have been completely let down by our legal system.. There is no retribution, and everything is done for offenders.

I have never wanted to read accounts of the murder. To me , it beggars belief that Thomson and Venables are free, under assumed names with state protection, like numerous other murderers. We have distinctly warped values in this country.

Thurmanmurman · 04/01/2019 13:13

I think that unless your toddler has been brutally murdered you have no right to an opinion on how a mother should deal with this to be honest. I don't understand such grief and I am grateful that I don't.

This thread is nearly 6 years old Confused

Oh and just in case OP is still around, YABU.
You have no idea how you'd react, maybe that's how she copes - by wanting to see justice.

GlitterStick · 04/01/2019 13:17

Sorry, NINE years old! Resurrected 6 years ago and then again today.

777magic · 07/01/2019 20:33

Denise was on Loose Women today and she said that guy should never have made a movie about it, its really sickening to think he's up for an Oscar for it.

Ohheyyy · 07/01/2019 20:35

Why has this horrible thread from years ago been resurrected?!!
