To think that Denise Fergus should have stayed at home?

I don't understand why she (mum of Jamie Bulger) had to go and sit in court when John Venables was being sentenced for his more recent crime. I will never forget the horror of hearing what happened to her little boy, and I know that she will never get over it - but how can it possibly help her to keep appearing on tv and making statements about what happens now? She seems to feel she has a right to be told all about everything, and while I can sympathise with her opinion to a certain extent I don't know that she does really. I saw her being interviewed when he was arrested earlier in the year and she said she'd had to keep her children off school because of the publicity - but she seems to be generating a lot of it herself.
Please don't think me hard hearted, it's just that I don't get it.

To Altinkum - pedantic maybe ridiculous no -you ll find thats you l think. Its called findmadeleine.com - the mcanns own site -you are right - expatinscotland

AgentZigzag · 26/07/2010 19:24

As far as I understand it Altinkum, her interest in her sons killers is that now she knows Venables has offended again, the anonymity he was given because they were children at great public expense, should now be taken away from him.

She thinks she does have a right to know, and the public has a right to know. I don't agree with that, but she can comment on anything she feels the need to, just as we can.

I have made the wrong call on this one sorry.
So will be moving this thread back into AIBU.

We'd like to remind all posters of the Mumsnet
philosophy, namely to make parents' lives easier.
We are keeping a very close eye on this thread though.
Thanks MN towers

To quote a previous poster - 'we re bored now'. This has long since gone from being a debate and turned into a group of people trying to banjo others into agreeing with them down to the last paraphrase. No-one is expressing any new opinions or points on the original subject anymore. Will log in tomorrow to see who won. Night night

Ladyanonymous · 26/07/2010 21:14

A child died - a little two year old child and his mum is still devastated.

I hope all murdered children rest in peace - and I hope their parents find some peacce one day too.

expatinscotland · 26/07/2010 21:20

I have a little boy who will be 2 in November.

Rockbird · 26/07/2010 21:33

I have a toddler, 2 and a half. Reading the details (which I no longer can) makes me sick to my stomach.

No one on here thankfully has the first idea how it feels to be in her position. You say her opinion no longer matters. It matters a hell of a lot more than anyone on here's. And that's fine with me.

scottishmummy · 26/07/2010 21:34

to not feel Mrs Fergus pain is to have a calcified heart.

CoteDAzur · 26/07/2010 21:38

She can say whatever she wants wherever she wants. It doesn't bother me in the least. If it helps her even a little bit, I don't mind the seconds she occupies my TV. That poor woman

grapeandlemon · 26/07/2010 22:11

The poor poor Woman.

Some people on her really have no humanity

brokeninside · 12/02/2013 14:39

In a word YES you are being unreasonable. Whats that saying, once a MUM always a MUM. Until you have walked in Denise and Ralphs shoes, you have NO idea how you would react. Please try to remember that her baby was abducted, frog marched, TORTURED and murdered. As if that isn't horrific enough those ???????? then put his little body on the railway tracks to try to cover up what they had done to him! Add to that they then were pampered with a lifestyle and luxuries they could have only dreamt of before ( I used to be an officer for social services) These boys set out that day knowing what they intended to do, after all they tried to abduct another child shortly before poor little James came along, and they enticed him away from his mummy, they were not sat there minding their own business!Everyone deals with grief differently ( my husband and I most definately do) and the fact that James mummy and daddy are still alive today proves they are admirable individuals who in their own way still keep up the fight for justice for their little angel. He was their little treasure and they lost him in such horrendous circumstances. We lost our youngest son at the age of 24yrs. Everyday we wish we were with him but when you have other children you have to put them first instead of yourself. Please support Denise not criticise her. As another mum fighting for justice for her son, let me tell you, if it happened to you you would fight until your dying breath, anyway you could. Ask anyone who lost a loved one "Did you go visit where they died" they will say "Yes I didn't want to but felt I had to". Its the same with court. She certainly would have rather been somewhere else that day but she would have felt compelled to go, take it from someone who really does know. Hope and pray the tragedy of losing a child (No matter what age they mature to) never happens to you. If it does you will then realise how hurtful your comments can be to another grieving mother.

ZOMBIE thread x

toffeelolly · 12/02/2013 15:28

Cannot believe some of these awlful comment's comming from some mother's about how little James was not being looked after how the fuck do you know were you all there on that awful day No. This child was took away and murderd. No parent can say they have not ever lost sight of their children ever even if only for a matter of mins. This woman must be living a nighmare day after day and feeling guilt and blaming herself. If i was in her shoes i would want to know about those fuckers. she will never get over losing her little james. so do not think people should judge what she should not be doing!

Put simply:

SHE lost HER child. He was abducted, tortured an murdered.

Nobody can tell her how to feel, what to think, how to grieve, what to do. Because it didn't happen to them.
