been having lessons for months now and decided to get one put in at home!

its amazing for fitness and so much fun, i have really toned up since doing it and i am thinking of possibly teaching it from home if i get good enough. and dp enjoys watching me practise although i reckon the novelty will probably wear off soon

my mum did a bit of a "cats bums mouth" when she first saw it though and dp darent even tell his mum i have got one! haha

i dont think so, its just a word dittany, i dont necessarily think it has a subject of sexism...but, I do agree with you that its quite a "ladylike" kind of word somehow

and, as an aside, it definitely has made me stronger, i have found hulking my kids around is a bit easier now i can hold my entire body weight upside down on a bit of metal

you've just swallowed one of the more moronic aspects of popular culture and puked it back out again.

Thanks smallcat I shall be using this phrase in many conversations on MN and RL. Quality!!

paisleyleaf · 19/07/2010 14:18

superv1xen, was it you started a thread about hating the idea of your DH going to a strip club for a stag do?

toccatanfudge · 19/07/2010 14:20

some people don't like the gym - there are many forms of exercise/ways to get fit/ways to have fun. The gym isn't for everyone.

"tedious exhibitionism" - - what working out around a pole in the privacy of your own home, or in a gym with other women all dressed up in sports gear

toccatanfudge · 19/07/2010 14:24

ahhh - yes paisely - you're spot on there..........

maybe she doesn't want a treadmill, or an exercise bike. .

20yrs ago many "usual" pieces of equipment were rather unusual (or not even heard of).

See the thing is she can't win can she

She sticks it in the living room - she's being an exhibitionist

If she'd stuck it in private in the bedroom everyone would say she was doing it purely for her DP

sc13 · 19/07/2010 14:31

Where does one even buy a pole?

toccatanfudge · 19/07/2010 14:34

here

mustrunmore · 19/07/2010 14:35

toccata, you've got a real point with the gym exhibitionism. Many people are there to exercise, but many are also there to just ponce about, look attractive, flirt with the staff ,and have coffee before and after the half hour exercise they do. That winds me up far more than if I was sitting at someone's house and they had a pole!

mum2phoebs · 19/07/2010 14:35

Excellent - good for you!! Makes for good discussion on here! God some people are so prudish!!

mustrunmore - I've been to the (normal) gym once in my entire life...........when I was about 18...........and I went for that very reason

mustrunmore · 19/07/2010 14:37

Sorry for the typos; I'm ot a thick pole user, I'm just typing one handed!

mustrunmore · 19/07/2010 14:39

Lol toccata!

I liked our old gym, before we moved house; just a normal place with normal people wanting to train. IME chain gyms attract the people I dont want to be surrounded by, small independent ones attract genuine exercise enthusiasts. In general.

so - it started in the sex industry - now it's started to go mainstream and become a form of exercise

We could probably compile a very long list of things which are now acceptable that were once risqué/taboo/the domain of the sex industry in history but now perfectly mainstream.

I wouldn't have thought they would take that much "installing" would they - surely they just need securing to the ceiling and the floor - screw holes can easily be covered up.

anyhow, I'm off to put a sack cloth on and cover my face with a bag to do the school run..........
