been having lessons for months now and decided to get one put in at home!

its amazing for fitness and so much fun, i have really toned up since doing it and i am thinking of possibly teaching it from home if i get good enough. and dp enjoys watching me practise although i reckon the novelty will probably wear off soon

my mum did a bit of a "cats bums mouth" when she first saw it though and dp darent even tell his mum i have got one! haha

upahill

go for it, you will love it, its such a laugh as well if you do it with friends, i go to lessons with my friend and i have made friends at the classes as well.

and you will notice you are starting to tone up after even 2 or 3 lessons, i can't stress enough how great it is for toning.

but i bet you don't stop at 6 lessons if you do go - its very addictive

dittany - toning is when you tighten up all those flabby bits that you get when you've had children/don't exercise.

I need to do some toning trust me a size 8 figure that's untoned don't look so great in the mirror

seeker · 19/07/2010 09:50

Toning - as in toning in with the prevailing misogynist culture?

Toning - as in toning down any desire to be a feminist woman and a strong role model for daughters?

Jux · 19/07/2010 09:52

I loathe pole dancing. Do men do it?

ermm - no for me toning is just tightening up the flabby bits that have appeared over recent years due to a sheer lack of laziness on my behalf.

Trust me - I have never, and never would "tone up" just for a man to think "phwarr" a little more (they seem quite keen on me as I am, cellulite, stretchmarks and wobbly bits ), but I would like to tone it all up a bit

And if lose weight I'm going to end up dangerously thin . So yes - I would like to tone up my muscles (they're there somewhere I know - I have one arm that looks like pop-eye when I tighten it up

Jux - men do a form of pole dancing called Chinese Poles - but that's ok because it's men and it's slightly different.

toning up (as I am sure you know) means i have gained muscle definition and lost flab.

This means my arms, legs and tummy look pretty damn great which is great for MY self esteem and MY happiness, not for my dp - he dp doesn't mind either way as, although he thinks I look great, he still loved and fancied me just as much at 9 months pregnant and at a few weeks post pregnancy while i looked 8 months pregnant what i am trying to say is he fancies me for me, not what i look like.

toccatanfudge - think you should try it!!

yes - and when you grow you muscle you "tone up" "tighten up" what ever you want to call it -

I don't "need" to be tone (date the other day coudn't get enough of my legs ) but I (personally) would like to.

I've had no problem attracting male attention wearing no make-up, and with wobbly bits - I would just like to do it for me.

perhaps you should try it some time

Mingg · 19/07/2010 10:49

Sorry if this has already been mentioned (have not read the whole thread). OP where do you go for lessons?

foureleven · 19/07/2010 10:50

What sallyseton said - i only got that far and realised it summed up anything I would have said so that's it really.

As you were.

toccatanfudge · 19/07/2010 10:54

why not say it tones you up???

fwiw - I turned up to a first date the other day with a huge zit on my chin, remnants of bicycle oil on my hands (DS1 needed his chain sorting after I'd got out of the shower), and wearing my nora batty leggings instead of the proper fitting ones - he still liked me

Why is it such a crime for a woman to do something she enjoys, or do something that makes herself "look good" (in her own eyes).

toccatanfudge · 19/07/2010 10:55

well surely if it's to do with misogyny then it's about men

toccatanfudge · 19/07/2010 10:56

or maybe I'm getting just a little bit "luvved up" having found a man that appears to (it's early days yet so not placing any bets) like me just as I come

foureleven · 19/07/2010 11:05

teehee stretch me too.

superv1xen · 19/07/2010 11:06

dittany

you might not have brought male attention into the conversation but previous posters have suggested i only do it for attention etc.

mingg

I am in the midlands and I go here

but lessons are countrywide and springing up everywhere so just google pole dancing classes in your area and see what comes up!
