Hello 👋 done several of these and Dry Jan's before. Need a reset after creeping back up to unhealthy daily drinking. Anyone looking for a daily check in and support please join me.

Same here @IdRatherWakeFreshAt6am .I went for a walk earlier and felt my resolve slipping, thinking how nice a glass of wine would be. But then I reminded myself: it’s never just one glass. Even when trying to moderate, it usually turns into half or two-thirds of a bottle. I’m really aiming for a 90-day reset—I know I need that minimum. I’m going to hold out until Christmas and see how I feel then.

Hohofortherobbers · 20/10/2026 20:30

Good on you @Tryingnottofalloff. Aiming for Xmas is a great commitment 👏
Glad the sober glow is showing ✨️

Just checking in.

Day 23 - how was everybody’s evening? Sounds like we’re all doing ok so far - let’s hope it lasts!

I am determined to make myself drink a glass of the three spirits tonight, it only lasts for 2 weeks and apart from a small shot gone, there’s a whole bottle left, and there’s no one I can even give it away too! 😆 Might buy a mixer today to go with it and see if I can get it down that way, or put a peg on my nose.

Have a good day all!

Tryingnottofalloff · 21/10/2026 13:17

Anyone else feeling a bit leaner? I’ve really been hitting the chocolate at times so wasn’t expecting to lose anything, and dont really need to but I’m definitely deflating! 😁

Hohofortherobbers · 21/10/2026 20:13

I'm definitely not leaner. I still am hitting the sugar hard. 😅

What happens after two weeks @Tryingnottofalloff , does it go off? I hope it doesn't ferment! Committing to getting as far as Christmas is great. I have no intention of pouring a drink on November 1st just because Sober October is done, but no longer term decisions yet. I didn't expect to be on day 31 and having enjoyed a few boozy social events so much without a drink. Maybe if I don't need a drink at all this is an opportunity to stop trying to moderate. That feels like a huge decision though.

darkmoor · 22/10/2026 18:09

Hello, well done everyone! I had a three days off for holiday (started a few days before October in some sort of barter with self).Back on it (off it?) now. Am also intending to extend it beyond October with only drinking on some occasions, which would be still be a massive improvement.

Hohofortherobbers · 22/10/2026 20:37

Well done @darkmoor , how was the holiday? What did you drink and was it enjoyable?

Work is manic for me at the moment, I'm putting in a lot of hours, it's definitely worth me being fresh, rested and less anxious currently

Tryingnottofalloff · 22/10/2026 20:46

Hey @darkmoor - I’m a prolific name changer but your username sounds familiar, I think we were on a sober September/October thread last year? I was catisheavyonmylap. Sounds like you’re doing really well and back on it!

Well, another day down and a busy one, but I went for a lovely walk earlier, just before the sun set. I find it breaks the evening up a bit, tires me which all helps to keep those urges away.

@Hohofortherobbers I know what you mean. I’m studying at the moment and have also just started a new job. I would definitely be struggling if I wasn’t AF - it’s so much easier to cope with it all when your head’s clear and the memory is working!

Tryingnottofalloff · 22/10/2026 20:50

I don’t know what happens to the three spirits after 2 weeks @IdRatherWakeFreshAt6am, it probably just goes even more rancid than it is now. How would I tell the difference? 😁

Hohofortherobbers · 22/10/2026 21:15

Did youvtry it again with a mixer @Tryingnottofalloff ? What's it like? I'm imagining it's like rough whisky

OP posts:
darkmoor · 22/10/2026 21:18

Had a lovely break and some wine @Hohofortherobbers However I have found it quite hard tonight not to drink so to be borne in mind.
@Tryingnottofalloff hello, yes was on this last year and we had good chats! Was hoping there would be a thread this year as found it such a help.

Tryingnottofalloff · 22/10/2026 21:27

I couldn’t bring myself to drink it again. I honestly can’t describe it. To me, it tastes like a bit of wood that has been soaked in water, literally, with a mild background hint of ginger, and a slight viscous feel. No where near as strong as whiskey, but almost insipid if that makes sense? - am I selling it to you 😆

Hohofortherobbers · 22/10/2026 22:32

Wet wood with ginger? £20!! 🤣

Happy Friday sober friends 🧡
Am already in bed listening to the wild winds outside. No plans tonight but have a gig with my dd tomorrow, will be driving again 😇

Tryingnottofalloff · 23/10/2026 22:08

Well done - it sounds like you’ve really got this under control and another weekend on the wagon!

In bed here too as I’m absolutely shattered tonight, I had a very heavy day, but on the plus side I’ve been too tired to even think about 🍷

IdRatherWakeFreshAt6am · 23/10/2026 22:08

Mmm, a lovely glass of wet wood with ginger, delicious!

Happy Friday everyone. It is hot chocolate weather this weekend for sure. You are doing well with your driving @Hohofortherobbers. I wish I was confident to drive in the dark, it would be great not to have to think about transport after a night out. Think of the time you are saving, and how lovely it must be not to have to wait around for a bus or train at the end of the night.

darkmoor · 24/10/2026 15:31

Happy wet and windy weekend! Sounds like Friday night went well.
Had to have some light surgery and so best to avoid drink to aid recovery, this helps with motivation! Having to drive is helpful too, have fun at gig @Hohofortherobbers

Hohofortherobbers · 25/10/2026 00:13

Great gig, very glad to be driving straight home on this hideous night, weather is appalling!

Tryingnottofalloff · 25/10/2026 08:25

Morning all! Up and out with the larks at 6 this morning for a lovely run. I’m in the south so the weather is a bit quieter, and only slightly breezy out there. I think it helped that I had a really good nights sleep and what a difference it makes!

I’m feeling really positive about not drinking long-term. Yesterday, while visiting a friend, I felt a brief craving for a glass of wine. However, I played the tape forward: I knew one glass would turn into most of the bottle, leading to a 2:00 AM wake-up call filled with pounding anxiety, fear over what I’m doing to my body, and deep self-loathing. It is such a massive relief to escape that toxic cycle, so I am officially on board for "No November"! 😄

Hope everyone else had a good night? Glad you enjoyed the gig @Hohofortherobbers and got home safely. Hope you’re on the mend @darkmoor and being AF can only help with healing. And definitely hot chocolate weather @IdRatherWakeFreshAt6am - not that I’ve partaken yet, but did manage to eat not 1 but 2! chocolate bars yesterday, unheard of for me but felt like rebelling, if I can’t poison my liver with alcohol might as well do it with sugar 😄

darkmoor · 25/10/2026 15:09

Well done for resisting @Tryingnottofalloff super strong! You got saved yourself in particular last night because the clocks went back at 2am. So if you normally wake at 2am after drinking then you would have woken up, got back to sleep and then woken up again 😁

Hohofortherobbers · 25/10/2026 17:20

We're all doing super well here! I was up early and joined some friends for yoga and coffee on this glorious sunny day. I have no long term plans to stay AF, but I hope my reset means I'm able to moderate more in weeks to come.

Hey all, glad all are doing well..Just survived a very wet sober camping weekend! Actually was much better for being sober!
Day 16 now and sleeping again💫💫💫
Funnily I'm now addicted to the three spirits - I hated it before 🤣

Hohofortherobbers · 26/10/2026 22:03

Apparently you only have to try something 8 times before you develop a taste for it, perhaps that's what happens with 3 spirits.
Wet camping and sober? You're a better woman than me, something would have had to give, either the camping or the sobriety.

OP posts:
Tryingnottofalloff · 27/10/2026 06:21

Maybe I just didn’t try hard enough with the Three Spirits, but I just couldn’t get past the shudder every time I swallowed it down 😁

Morning all - Day 29 and feeling really ok with it all. No urges, and found this weekend not too bad. Probably helps that life is quite busy at the moment and I couldn’t imagine getting through it all feeling ropey from a 3 day hangover!
