Well done @Skatefordinner you were thinking of it but trying to plan around it and that will help

so I told my husband what I was doing as he is trying to stop vaping. I thought about 5ish that I sort of wanted him to give up already so I wouldn’t feel bad if I did. How bad is that??!! And I know I’ve felt like that before when he has tried to quit

but then he seemed more
motivated and so I bought myself a couple of cans of trip as I remember I liked that. I was busy being mum taxi until about 7pm so then got home, PJs and 2 cans of trip and now feeling v sleepy and quite chuffed.

still just day 2 but I’d have fallen off the wagon easily tonight. Glad I kept busy and hoping for the same tomorrow

well done those still with it and if you slipped, don’t beat yourself up. Tomorrows another day and progress over perfection x

Skatefordinner · 02/10/2026 23:01

well done @mummykezzaand @IdRatherWakeFreshAt6am. That’s a Friday done!

I didn’t have quite the peaceful night I thought as DSs friend slammed the front door and jammed the lock so I was there with my screwdriver, WD40 and other sharp implements trying to fix it whilst DS and mates were entering and exiting the living room window. However it was a good distraction and I marked them out of ten for their exits.

I don’t know if I mentioned this but my secondary motivation for doing this is because I wanted my older teen DD to do it with me. She works in a bar, finishes late and goes for quite a few drinks often after work so I thought she could do with a reset too. She’s just come in after quite a few beers 😫.

Anyone at least one of us has stuck to it!

sleep well 😴

Hohofortherobbers · 02/10/2026 23:02

Well done on your dry evenings. I drove to the quiz and had a good time drinking Sprite. Had sugar cravings do went for original sprite rather than diet. Everyone else was knocking back the prosecco. In bed with a glass of milk now 😇

Hi, how's the evening looking for everyone? I have a nice tea planned, prawns in a creamy tomato pasta, have bought 0% Heineken and arranged to pick my son up later tonight. So definitely no drinking possible.
Slept well again last night

I'm very impressed with myself. Braised lamb shanks for tea, which required 600ml of red wine, and I did not drink the remaining 150ml. Only problem is that I'm now going to see it every time I open the fridge, so I'm going to have to think if another recipe to use it up!

Hohofortherobbers · 03/10/2026 19:48

Oh delicious, I love lamb. The prawn pasta was a new recipe and went down well with the family

mummykezza · 03/10/2026 20:47

I’m so impressed with the prawns and lamb. My son was begging for McDonalds so I gave in lol

but still no wine and I’m a bit surprised at myself haha. Maybe this time will be different…….. who knows…… I hope so x

I did 10,000 steps as well without trying but I was keeping busy. I work from home so do a desk job and drive everywhere and steps are never good so today has definitely been a good day. Have a nice evening everyone xx

IdRatherWakeFreshAt6am · 03/10/2026 21:45

Well done everyone. Getting through Friday and Saturday is great and we will all reap the rewards tomorrow morning.

I managed with relative ease today. I said upfront that I would not be drinking, instead of keeping it to myself which I'd usually do to reserve the option of changing my mind. We ended up in a cafe bar that is very vegan, arts scene, hipster, not my usual vibe but has as many people on coffee and soft drinks as on beer and wine so it was easy not to drink. Home now and sipping a herbal tea nightcap, getting a buzz from marking a dry day on my app.

crunchierocks · 03/10/2026 21:54

I’ll join please! Need some accountability, not done anything more than a couple of days in a long time but have done several dry Jan’s in the past not for a few years tho. Feeling proud to be on day 3 (actually day 4 as didn’t drink on 30th sept) and already more in control 👍

flippyfloppy · 04/10/2026 08:34

Morning! I’ve been reading this thread and decided to join. It will help me keep accountable. Weekend binger here, sick of feeling ropey and unproductive on a Sunday. Then down in the dumps on a Monday. I’m out on a dog walk this morning feeling fresh ! I’m actually on day 14 as started on September 20th. I wear a Garmin and can’t believe how improved my sleep score and other health metrics are! Have a good day everyone .

Hohofortherobbers · 04/10/2026 09:59

Hi @crunchierocksand @flippyfloppy welcome aboard. Well done on your great starts already. I slept in till 9am which is unusual for me, usually tossing and turning from 6am onwards if ive been drinking night before.

Had a good day out in the sunshine 🌞. Went geocaching with my dh, then stopped at a church hall for tea and cake afterwards. Couple of little wine twinges early evening whilst cooking dinner, but made do with just drinking a rhubarb and raspberry cordial with sparkling water. Haven't fancied the Heineken 0% yet, just desperately seeking sugar. How have your Sundays turned out?

OP posts:
flippyfloppy · 04/10/2026 22:55

Glad you had a good day @Hohofortherobbers. We were out for Sunday lunch with the family today, I volunteered to drive, had one 0% Heineken then fizzy water. It did the trick and I didn’t actually miss having a drink. Looking forward to a good nights sleep and to feel fresh starting the week tomorrow!

IdRatherWakeFreshAt6am · 05/10/2026 07:24

@flippyfloppy we are days twins. My app also tells me that if I don't drink today - and I won't - this will be my longest streak since starting with the app. I'm a bit surprised and horrified to read that actually. I assumed I would have had longer streaks than 2 weeks. But I am not able to do anything about the past, only the present.

Hohofortherobbers · 05/10/2026 21:27

Evening all, went to the cinema this evening to see Verity, I'd really enjoyed the book and the film was great too. Had a wagamammas first with a 0% asahi, ate my share of the malteasers too, still desperate for sugar.

Cinnamonroles · 05/10/2026 22:19

Is it too late for me to join? Similar to some of you I really felt my drinking creeping up over the summer, and I notice when I start I have no willpower to stop, so I think a reset is needed.

Hohofortherobbers · 05/10/2026 22:30

Never too late @Cinnamonroles
Good to have you. Im using this thread as a daily check in so I will be here to chat.

OP posts:
Cinnamonroles · 06/10/2026 08:24

Thank you! Well yesterday I met a friend for dinner and didn’t have a glass of wine with it. Luckily neither did they so that limited day 1 temptation.

darkmoor · 06/10/2026 11:54

Hello 👋 can I join too please? Reset needed for me too.
Herbal teas are helping when I sit down (as different from having a cold/room temperature drink). As is tidying up, sorting through things to keep busy in the early evenings.
Ashwanga is helping with sleep somewhat.

Hohofortherobbers · 06/10/2026 19:24

Hello @darkmoor, welcome to the thread
Well done @Cinnamonroleson a successful day 1. Am here with an early grey, dh and ds are out at an event enjoying free hospitality, itswasted on dh, he's strictly an occasional drinker, 1 drink andthen nothing for months on end. If I'd been there normally I'd have really made the most of it 😅.
Am really enjoying the sober awkward podcast

flippyfloppy · 06/10/2026 20:31

Well done everyone for your successful days! @Hohofortherobbersive just finished listening to A Thousand Wasted Sundays , the book Vic from Sober Awkward wrote. It was thought provoking in parts for me, as I’ve always been a Saturday night binger. I’m finding listening to quit lit really helping me stay focussed.

Cinnamonroles · 06/10/2026 22:22

Thanks for the podcast recommendations! I could really do with something to listen to and help me see this from a different lens. I had an iced tea tonight and cooked healthy lunches for the next few days for me and DP, so hoping to continue with small healthy steps this week.

Skatefordinner · 06/10/2026 22:25

Hello and to the new joiners. I have to say how much happier I am not drinking than drinking this last week.

I was so sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. I am missing wine a bit but I am enjoying the waking up in the morning and the clearheadedness (even though I’m not sleeping brilliantly. At least it’s not wine related) .

Absolutely not missing the mental gymnastics as to whether I’ll have wine in the evening (which could easily end up being the whole bottle), waking up full of regret, feeling tired and below par all day, the anxiety …. Then starting all over again the next day or the day after. I like the black and whiteness of it.

For me when there are so many pros that outweigh all the shit things that booze does to you and makes you feel, it really does start to feel a whole lot easier to not go to the shop and buy the wine.

When I did 3 months with no alcohol before, these feelings just got more and more pronounced as life got better. Then I cracked at my work Christmas party 😫.

Well done everyone and even if you do or have succumbed, you haven’t written off the whole month. It’s just a blip. Get back on it (or off it) the next day.

mummykezza · 07/10/2026 06:38

Morning everyone. Sorry not posted for a couple of days as work has been so busy. Had a super stressful day yesterday and was so tempted to get wine. When I tried this sober October last year I got to about a week in and had a stressful day and that’s what I gave into. Told myself I can moderate as I went a week including a weekend and was fine. Then of course I slipped right back

I do feel differently this time. I really do fancy wine and that still hits in the evenings but the trip drinks in a wine glass and appreciating the sleep is keeping me going.

also TMI but my digestion is improved and feels “normal”. This can only mean good things on the inside

keep going everyone and as skatefordinner said, if you have blipped it doesn’t wrote off the whole month. The try dry app would still be great as you can put in the dry days and see how that builds up through the month even if not a perfect month x

darkmoor · 07/10/2026 07:52

Morning all! Slept terribly last night - took a while to get to sleep and then woke up before 5 with brain whirring. Seems to vary though as have had a few good nights sleep over the last week or so (started sober October early).
Raining here (and everywhere) this morning. guess the land needs it!
How was everyone’s evenings?
