Hello 👋 done several of these and Dry Jan's before. Need a reset after creeping back up to unhealthy daily drinking. Anyone looking for a daily check in and support please join me.

I'm definitely having a slight wobble today because DH is out for the next couple of evenings (which will mean he's drinking) and I've got a school thing tonight which will involve a glass of wine if I want.

I think it's like @mummykezza says, by this point I've proved I can do it, so surely I can have a drink and know that it's okay, I won't have one tomorrow etc. But I also know that if I have one, it opens the floodgates and makes it okay the next time I find a tenuous excuse to justify it.

There's a lot of mental gymnastics involved all round!

Hohofortherobbers · 07/10/2026 18:16

Hold strong @BookShark 💪, a glass of wine at s school event is not worth giving into. I hope they have something AF you fancy

Just ticked off the 7th dry day in my app. 1 week down, 3 to go. I have plans with friends Friday night, only a takeaway round someone's house, but I would always be drinking at this, even though most of the others won't, 2 are always dry, 1 will gave a beer or 2, the last will usually drink wineceith me, but I probably drink most of it. Am planning on taking my Heineken 0% with me and driving.

Congratulations on reaching your week milestone @Hohofortherobbers! Friday night will also be a test for me, so I think I need a game plan as going for dinner and then to a concert and would always normally drink. I’m not a huge beer or fizzy drink lover so I find AF alternatives limited and don’t want to drink water all night!
Similar to @mummykezza and @BookShark i tend to convince myself I have proved I can do it so no harm in having a wine. I’m trying to keep strong this time as I do recognise that’s problematic.
Really enjoyed the sober awkward podcast so will keep listening to that.

Hohofortherobbers · 08/10/2026 21:08

Have headed to bed early as rest of the family watching traitors and I'm in need of an early night. I have a sore throat which has been disturbing my sleep last couple of days so not enjoying my usual AF sleep benefits.
Just started a book I've had on the side for at least 2 months, Lisa Jewell, Don't let him in. I find her hit and miss, hopefully this one's a hit.

Happy Friday sober octoberers. I'm quite under the weather with a chesty cough, so staying off booze tonight just got even easier

Happy Friday! Day 19 here but I will not tick it off until the day is over. I would quite like a wine but have a bottle of 0% in the fridge that I can crack open if I get strong cravings. The ceremony of opening a bottle and using a nice glass is most of the pleasure and without any of the downsides.

flippyfloppy · 09/10/2026 20:26

Happy Friday everyone! I went to the gym after work to help switch off , dog walk and then lovely bath! I’ve offered to be daughter and friends taxi tonight so that’s keeping me nice and busy and distracted . Day 19 here too@IdRatherWakeFreshAt6am(love the inspirational name 💪) Hope the 0% does the trick. Sorry you’re under the weather @Hohofortherobbersand hope you feel better tomorrow. Saturday always crunch day for me, come Saturday night I feel I can finally relax and always ‘reward’ myself with wine . Need to make some alternative plans for tomorrow! Hope everyone has a lovely evening

Skatefordinner · 09/10/2026 23:53

@Hohofortherobbers I hope you feel better soon. I enjoyed Don’t let him in immensely! I actually listened to the audiobook and the truly wonderful/ awful Richard Armitage narrated it brilliantly!

I am in bed and teen DS has 6 friends downstairs with music on. If I had had wine I would have drifted off by now. As it is I’m sending endless ranting messages to him to turn it down 😫

ThistimeImdone · 10/10/2026 06:09

Hi all, please can i join - a bit late i know! I started sober October, did about 3 days then went off the rails. After a bottle of wine last night I'm realising I need to do this. So day one AGAIN for me 🤣🤦‍♀️

Hohofortherobbers · 10/10/2026 07:27

Welcome aboard the wagon @ThistimeImdone
Hope you got to sleep soon @Skatefordinner, even if it took longer to get off it'll be better sleep for not drinking.
Had a good evening with mates for takeaway last night, didn't miss drinking at all with my Heineken 0% and no one commented on me not drinking, 2 of them had a couple of lagers each, so not a big drinking night.
Out to a gig tonight with my dd, I have to drive anyway so won't miss drinking tonight either. My social life this month is really set up for being sober 😅

Hope you feel better soon @Hohofortherobbers Well done everyone, and wow 19 day milestones for some of you, that’s amazing.
I made it to the weekend which I’m proud of, I hate to admit day 6 is now the longest I’ve been sober probably since the start of the year. Luckily the friend I went out with yesterday wasn’t drinking, so that took the pressure off and I enjoyed getting home with a clear head. I took from the sober awkward podcast to focus on what you’re gaining rather than what you’re giving up, so trying to focus on those positives!

IdRatherWakeFreshAt6am · 10/10/2026 21:13

Well done @Cinnamonroles. Every day makes a difference and by tomorrow you will have done a week. Isn't it funny what a habit it can become?

How is everyone else's Saturday evening going? I know this is probably the hardest night of the week for lots of us. I am having a film night with DS, watching Ferris Bueller's day off and marvelling at how dated everything seems. Not having wine has been fine. It is easier than just having one glass, that's for sure.

Hohofortherobbers · 11/10/2026 00:24

Home and dry. Gig was great, didn't miss drinking at all and lovely to get home quickly as driving 😀

Morning ! Hope everyone is enjoying waking up fresh. I was pleased to get another Saturday night ticked off. We took the dogs to the beach early evening to escape 6pm in the house, which is usually the start of Saturday wine time. Home to snacks, kombucha in a wine glass and a film, it was lovely! Well done to everyone for another night. I had a good nights sleep and im looking forward to a productive Sunday! x

Tryingnottofalloff · 11/10/2026 11:10

I’m going to quietly join if that’s ok? - I say that because I’ve lost count of how many threads I’ve joined only to fall off again!

Just putting my head down and trying not to focus on the days, but the bigger picture, which is hopefully working towards long-term abstinence, but getting through October sober would be a great start.

Well done everyone for getting this far!

IdRatherWakeFreshAt6am · 11/10/2026 20:09

We are through the weekend, uness anyone still has a trigger coming this late on a Sunday? Well done everyone and welcome @Tryingnottofalloff .

Day 21 here and something amazing has happened - my reading mojo is returning! We had curry and cakes today and I still feel healthier and cleaner inside than I usually would on a Sunday.

Tryingnottofalloff · 12/10/2026 19:55

Thanks @IdRatherWakeFreshAt6am - love the username and so true! Well done on day 22 - I’m on day 14 and just plodding along. I’m feeling pretty washed out and no boing as yet, but I’m determined to hang on in for it!

Hope everyone else has had a good start to the week?

Hohofortherobbers · 12/10/2026 23:03

Great start to the week! I seem to have a banging social life currently, out at another concert tonight with a friend. I drove, she had 1 beer. As soon as I shake off this chesty cough I'm sure I'll reap the rewards of AF sleep, not sleeping well currently.

OP posts:
flippyfloppy · 13/10/2026 08:20

Well done @Hohofortherobbersyou are smashing this socialising AF! On sleep, I can’t believe how much mine has improved, I’m on day 24, I’ve always thought I was a bad sleeper. I train a lot and wear a Garmin, sleep score usually averages 50-60 with my body battery about 50. This morning body my battery is 89!!! And sleep score 84, it’s been consistently in the 80’s for the last week. Also my resting heart rate has dropped . It’s been a real motivator for me and eye opener! Hope everyone has a good day

Hohofortherobbers · 13/10/2026 21:39

Wow! That's a real improvement in sleep! Id like to have an objective measure of sleep. Even though I'm not sleeping well due to the chesty cough I'm not that tired, so it must be quality sleep

Cinnamonroles · Yesterday 07:35

That’s amazing, I think it’s things like this that show just what the drinking without proper recovery does to our bodies. I’m finding the weekdays ok although this week has been really stressful at work and I know if DP had suggested a bottle of wine with dinner I would have said yes. Still trying to focus on the positives like finding it easier to wake up in the morning and less anxiety…

ThistimeImdone · Yesterday 13:10

I have an oura ring and it shows me very clearly the effects of booze - my heart rate goes up, heart rate variability tanks and sleep and rem sleep tanks. It's crazy. And yet I kept drinking 🤣🤦‍♀️
Sorry work is stressful @Cinnamonroles I know stress has me reaching for wine so well done!
And sorry you're feeling poorly @Hohofortherobbers
I'm on day 5, sleep starting to improve which is a relief because the 3 am wakeup were horrendous!
Hope everyone is doing ok.

darkmoor · Yesterday 17:51

That’s interesting to hear on the oura ring and garmin stats. Well done everyone for getting this far and seeing results.

Cinnamonroles · Yesterday 18:17

Well done @ThistimeImdone day 5 is a great achievement! I know it’s silly what we put ourselves through when the health benefits are so clear. I have this huge fear of being boring without drinking. Some of that is probably because I’m avoiding social occasions which would make me tempted to drink, and otherwise it’s because I’m quite shy and it’s a crutch
