Dry January is over and the next phase has begun! Wherever you are on your sobriety journey, you're welcome here for encouragement, advice and support.

We love hearing from people who have been dry for a long time, so if you've swung by to have a look, please post to inspire us!

Equally, if you've woken up hungover, regretful and ashamed, determined that it's the last time, we've all been there and we're here for you now.

Lurky-lurkers, we know you're there! I observed the alcohol support threads for years before I felt ready to take the plunge, I hope these threads help others; if and when you feel ready to post, you'll get a warm welcome.

Might I respectfully ask that if your aim is moderation, you join the long running moderation thread in this topic. I find moderation chat difficult; it weakens my resolve, and many others feel the same.

I'm Drybird, 31 days sober. In that time I have saved 183 units, £192, and 12600 calories! I intend to be sober for the rest of my life, and I use this thread to keep me accountable.

It would be great to know how everyone is getting on, so if you'd like to check in below, please do! No need to share stats unless you want to, just give us a wave.

Here's tae us!

It's funny having conversations with friends and acquaintances and how much everyone is drinking. It's remarkable to me that I'm the one not drinking. It adds to the whole can you believe what's going on in the world right now. Who'd have thought?

EIsaCragg · 09/04/2020 09:09

Exactly testing, jess and Ulysses.

During this crisis, not drinking is helping me to stay on top of things, including my mental health. It's something I can control, whilst everything around us is in turmoil.

I'm so glad I stopped. I have a clear head and so much more energy and motivation.

Thank you Dry for starting this lovely thread. Smile

jess3817 · 09/04/2020 09:29

@ElsaCragg yeah I'm definitely more clear headed, positive and not over reacting to thinfa like I use to - which is quite helpful in the current situation .
So glad to wake up today - had my first dream involving booze last night. I dreampt I drank 2 bottles of red wine and I was waking up upset I'd drank and had to deal with what I'd said/ done whilst drunk Confused red wine made/ makes me nasty so...

Drybird2020 · 09/04/2020 10:24

jess I have had two dreams like that and they were so unbelievably vivid, I was very relieved to wake up.

jess3817 · 09/04/2020 11:26

Very disconcerting - good to know someone else has them too -I think I read further back that you'd had a few horrid ones. X

Drybird2020 · 09/04/2020 18:10

I like to think the dreams are my unconscious mind keeping me on the straight and narrow!

Day 100 today 😊

@Drybird2020 yippee - well done. I’m on 98 and excited to reach 100!

Ulysses · 09/04/2020 20:40

Congratulations @Drybird2020! 🥳

EIsaCragg · 09/04/2020 21:30

Congratulations @Drybird2020! Flowers

Drybird2020 · 09/04/2020 22:20

Thank you, Lovelies. This thread and its predecessor have been instrumental, I wouldn't have been able to keep going without it and all of you.

I've had a huge nut roast dinner, and bitter lemon in a pretty glass, to celebrate.

@StillDumDeDumming you've done especially well with all that life has thrown at you since the new year - it's even more of an achievement.

100 days feels good, and it's still just the beginning. I'm spending less and less time thinking about booze, and look forward to a time when it doesn't occupy my thoughts at all.

OP posts:
aprilfoolsbaby · 09/04/2020 22:27

Congratulations drybird. Really well done for getting to 100 days.

I'm there tomorrow.

Thank you so much for the thread. It's been marvellous and it's made me accountable.

I do think about booze but it's fleeting and knowing I'll sleep well and feel good in the morning without it is all I need to focus on and the moment passes.

Happy Easter weekend everyone x

SophocIestheFox · 10/04/2020 06:36

Congratulations, drybird!

What a great achievement, well done on your focus and commitment, and here’s to many more dry, anxiety free, peaceful days ahead Grin

SophocIestheFox · 10/04/2020 06:38

Oh! Just looked at my app and It’s my hundred days today, too Grin

I guess it only technically counts when I’ve finished the day dry, but there’s no reason in the world that that wouldn’t happen, so am going to declare the victory anyway 🥳

Feels good. Peaceful.

Drybird2020 · 10/04/2020 07:11

Congratulations to @SophoclesTheFox and @aprilfoolsbaby on your centuries!

SophocIestheFox · 10/04/2020 13:14

Congratulations, aprilfools, I missed that it was also your century!

Loving the rash of 💯 s 🥳🥳🥳

SophocIestheFox · 10/04/2020 13:15

And I love that people here are pleased- my achievement has been met with broad indifference in real life 😂

EIsaCragg · 10/04/2020 13:17

Congratulations @aprilfoolsbaby and @SophocIestheFox, it's great to get that century under your belt, isn't it?

Day by Day, not drinking does become the new normal. I just don't have headspace for thoughts about drinking any more.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable and safe weekend. Flowers

SparklingLime · 10/04/2020 14:00

Yes, @StillDumDeDumming! You’re a bloody marvel!!! 💜💜

jess3817 · 10/04/2020 20:04

Congratulations everyone on your superb achievement Flowers 👏 I hope to be there in a few months - no reason not to be just not thinking to far ahead .

GreenTeaMug · 11/04/2020 09:00

good morning!

May I join?

I did 100 days last year then got complacent.

Lockdown has seen my consumption go wild. My DH does not drink. I have always had a tendency to be 'over enthusiastic' but it has become worse sicne I had terrible PND after DS2 was born.

WfH has not helped.

Since my youngest was born (he is 7) i have drunk insanely, put on 3 stone, become bloated and sad. I have 'let myself go' in that awful misogynistic phrase.

I have to aim small because right now i can't even imagining getting to the end of Easter. So my first aim is 3 days. Then I want to get to 10. Then 30 then 100 then beyond.

I would love to join you. x

SophocIestheFox · 11/04/2020 10:27

Congratulations on your 100 days today, stilldumde and sparklinglime 🥳🥳🥳

Anyone else still on their new year roll and reaching their century this weekend?

Welcome, greenteamug, you’re in the right place for some support and encouragement.

EIsaCragg · 11/04/2020 11:16

Congratulations from me too, @StillDumDeDumming and @SparklingLime, and any others who become centenarians today. Smile

Welcome @GreenTeaMug, there's loads of great support, solidarity and encouragement here.

SparklingLime · 11/04/2020 11:33

Thank you!
@greenteamug, I seriously never thought I’d complete Dry Jan, but here we are... I definitely found small goals helpful. 😊
