Hi
I'm not ready to go AF hence a separate thread ( yes I know I should do so sorry just being honest ) , but I'm in my late 40's, single parent and full time professional job .
2 at uni and 1 in 6th form and one still at primary . I'm juggling as many of us are .... the career/family/house / car . Along the way I'm now drinking a bottle of wine most nights . It's become a habit and I know it's making me ill .
I guess I leaned on alcohol throughout a long unhappy marriage / then the divorce and now it's become a habit .
The first thing mummy does when I get home is pour a glass of wine and then I feel myself start to unwind . Except I carry on .
My face is now feels puffy , my clothes are tight , my sleep quality is crap and so on .
I'm at a point in my life where I really need to take control as its my first opportunity in almost 27 years that I actually can .
I have an amazing partner now and we're planning on selling our homes imminently to move in together as a family . I want to have taken back control of this before then .
So I plan on not drinking during he week starting tomorrow .
I've stopped before and after the first night I remember actually enjoying it so I don't know why I'm so panicky ?
Does anyone else want to join me please ?

Hi @mummyof4kids welcome! Are you going to drink something different tonight? @tipseytorvey i don’t think I’ll bother with the seedlip - can’t justify the expense if it’s not that special. Mmm, that fuzzy feeling. I think I too drink for this feeling, which can’t be good can it? But it’s also a habit, a reward, to relax etc. I stopped smoking decades ago but the reasons why I smoked are very similar... no fuzzy feeling but a ‘aaahhh’.

mummyof4kids · 03/01/2020 10:46

I don't know whether to stick to normal tea/juice or to buy some alcohol free wine or beer.
Day 3 and still have a niggling headache, anyone any idea how long it lasts 🙄

Kimlek · 04/01/2020 00:16

mummy maybe you’re dehydrated? I’ve not had any headaches (yet). I also thought about the AF booze but they don’t get great reviews. I may see how I go and if I start struggling then...
I’ve now done 3 days AF but I’ve been home each eve so slightly easier! tonight I had Belvoir cordial (rose flavour) with soda water, which was lovely.

mummyof4kids · 04/01/2020 05:21

Morning!
Last night was a test as it was Friday but I stayed AF.
Headache has gone now too

TipseyTorvey · 04/01/2020 11:10

Morning! I didn't manage AF last night but did cut to 3 glasses over 4 hours with a pint of water in between and then had a warm milk so feel fine this morning. As I'm still on leave til Tuesday I will start the AF nights then but cutting down by half feels good for now. Just want to get rid of the 'I must have a drink NOW' feeling that was starting to take over.

Kimlek · 04/01/2020 21:07

I really wanted a drink tonight!! But it passed... so that’s 4 night AF, which I don’t think I’ve ever done before!

TipseyTorvey · 05/01/2020 08:28

Wow well done Kimlek!! I'm impressed. Did you sleep better? Was it nice waking up clear headed? I had a few but it was Saturday night. I start properly on Monday when I go back to work.

Icantfind · 05/01/2020 09:13

Can I join in? I can’t remember the last day I didn’t have wine. Got a busy few days at work so want to be on top form - so no wine today/tomorrow.

Todayisanewday75 · 06/01/2020 07:51

Can I join too? I’ve been drinking way too much for way too long and it needs to stop. Just poured away the last of the prosecco

Trewser · 06/01/2020 07:55

Can I recommend getting rid of all the wine in the house, then on a Friday night or whenever you've said you can have a drink, buying ine of those 250ml bottles? They make one decent glass or two smaller ones and then you can't drink any more once it's gone!

Kimlek · 13/01/2020 21:16

@TipseyTorvey annoyingly I’m more tired than ever, my skin is worse and I don’t feel any better at all! And this is now day 13 AF!! I’m pushing for a dry January but as I’m away this weekend on a girls trip I know being dry could be tricky. I’d like to be able to enjoy the weekend with no booze but that’s a huge ask so I’m going to see how it goes.
Welcome @Icantfind and @Todayisanewday75 how’s it going so far? Impressed you poured away the Prosecco!

Shadow01 · 15/01/2020 22:45

Is it too late to join in?

Tinkerbellx · 09/03/2020 20:38

Coming back with my head hung .
I was the OP and failed miserably at cutting back.
Could we possibly get this going again ?
I have even more reason to cut right down now ..... amazing new job which will be a huge challenge .... and I'm finally moving in with Dp and so don't want to ruin that .
And most importantly I'm missing out on quality time with my dd aged 9 . I want to be a bye we mum / partner and friend .
How's everyone else doing ?

Hi,
I'd love to join!!
I try to alternate days (so I don't do 2 drinking days in a row) but I've got into a rut with that!!
I'm now on my 2nd full day, it's been a while since I've managed that..have a busy few days ahead so fingers crossed I'll manage more AF days in a row!!

basicbitch16 · 28/04/2020 10:07

Hi, can I join please? I had my first AF day yesterday in, well I don't actually know. Sunday was my wake up call - I drank 2.5 bottles of wine. I've been drinking 1-2 bottles a day, some days gin. That's horrific. I have gained weight, mostly around my tummy, I'm sluggish, unmotivated, but I hide it very well. I think I'm definitely high-functioning.

I used to be 'a bottle Friday, a bottle Saturday' and whilst it's still too much, to get back to that would be a huge achievement, and I could then look to cut down further.

I'm not really sure what I will drink instead, I quite like a nice cuppa after dinner, but to we have lined up some TV series to watch - I might make the end of an episode without falling asleep!

Who is else is here and how are you doing? x

iamyourequal · 28/04/2020 10:34

Hi Basic you might be better coming over to the other sober threads, same section. You’d be very welcome. Nobody has posted on this one for several weeks now. Cu there!
